I bought a VW Golf MK2 Citystromer, All Electric Veteran

A factory built Ev Golf from 1991.
It needs some work but it’s in a pretty good shape after all these years. I have tried to find the original ABB power electronics whiteout any luck, i do not think that I ever gonna find one.
That makes me think to change this drive train to a more efficient and modern one, probably a Nissan Leaf drive unit. But first, I will change the battery bank to lion, because the range with the lead acid battery’s is only 25-30km. So I am going to install those etron modules as soon as possible and maybe in the next video I have it done;-).
For fun I did calculate how much it would cost to buy new lead acid batteries, 294eur for one 6v 240ah battery, and I need 16pc with the original ABB inverter and 20 with the motor and speed controller that are sitting in the car right now.
20x294= 5880€
So forget it😅

    Very nice project. 👍 It's good that the car is still running, then you can gain some experience with it and change the battery in winter. With a lithium battery it will also be much lighter😀

    Install all of the Audi battery and connect it to the house as an additional battery and save the "20%" for driving.

    I should try to get the motor and electronics of a e-up inside it. I think it will fit easy.

    Yes, I definitely would like to do that but the electronics won’t work unless you take everything from the e-up. It’s not possible to do any swap codings if you now what I mean. But I think that a leaf motor will fit nice, and the inverter almost looks like the old ABB inverter😅

    @@flyingtools you only need the charger, inverter and the old engine control unit. The e-golf and e-up have still an old engine controler for the cooling and start blocking. That is easy to program away. Then you don’t need the dashboard. The bms is I think useable with your id3 modules. The bms is also used in the e-golf. They should see them over can-bus. But yes it will need some changes in the computers to let it work. But there are a lot of people out there that can do very much with VW computers. Then it is still an VW and the e-up/e-golf engine will an easy fit in the citystromer. If people can fit a 1.8T in a up then it can also be the other way around. I have an e-golf and can send you some pictures of the engine mounting.

    Coolt. Säkert många udda byggen genom åren längre tillbaka som man inte har någon aning om, konverterade till elbilar. Alltså. Nu menar jag ändå officiella byggen. Vet bara sen längre tillbaka när jag surfat på blocket att Renault Clio tidigt fanns som elektrisk. Tidiga modeller av Citroen Berlingo har jag också sett på blocket.

    OK. I understand. I asked as I live on Orust and am looking at trying to do something similar but with the way Swedish law on high voltage electrical instalation is I was after some advice and maybe help. But completely understand. Your videos are great. Keep it up.

    Hej! Nej det går som regel bra. Går man ej över 20% av ursprungseffekten är det i princip bara att regbesikta som ändrat fordon. Över det så blir det sfro samt tot minst 5 större ändringar för att få den som ombyggd fordon. En Max effekt i förhållande till vikt finns dock.

    Tror du inte att det där kan vara en framtida samlarbil? Kanske bättre att bygga om en "vanlig golf" och spara den där som pensionssparande! Har själv en klassisk M3 cab och den är numera värd betydligt mer än jag gav för den.. ❤

    Problemet är ju att de redan har bytt kraftelektroniken i den, vilket iof har räddat bilen från ev skrotning. Men det verkar vara snudd på omöjligt att få tag i dessa Orginal prylar. Jag ser nu möjligheten att förfina bilen istället, samtidigt som jag kommer försöka få den att se mer original ut än den gör nu i alla fall. Själva bilen kommer ju inte att byggas om. De batterilådor med mera kommer att lämnas orört naturligtvis. Men precis som du säger, hade jättegärna återställt den till perfekt original skick men tyvärr är det ej möjligt utan ABB:s kraftelektronik.
