I really like the project from a techincal perspective, being involved with Embedded, IoT, radio, and stuff. But this project feels like a scam. In the early days, you used to be able to build your own DIY miner as it was fairly open, and there was a way to do that with a Pi and a LoRaWAN module. But now, you can't earn the "proof of coverage" rewards for hosting a DIY hotspot. Why?? You do still earn the transaction fees, but that accounts for a very tiny fraction of the overall income generated by the miner. Those rewards are not even worth the electricity costs for the radio. And looking how the proof of coverage model works, it would be SO easy to spoof. And sure enough, look at the miners that are currently hosted. there are a LOT, just floating out there in the ocean, I highly doubt these are real machines but instead some carefully engineered virtual machines that are interacting with each other to earn the proof of coverage payouts. This thing has scam written all over it.

I have one of these and it also regrows your hair and gives you telekinesis. It's real order now.

Interesting idea and hope you are able to get it to work out for you. I appreciate the video showing a real life situation and your comments on dealing with it. This is helpful for someone looking to find out if they should pursue it themselves before purchase. It is clear that you're not recommending or selling anything but showing what you went through.

Thanks for your comment and feedback! I thought it was an interesting project to try. I'm glad you noticed that I wasn't recommending others do this. I'm still waiting for a satisfactory answer from FreedomFI. It's not a long term fix but I have power to the board now and it's actually generating some income. I am eager to see how it does over some time.

I don't know man, this looks really like a bad scam. Not just for the price (that hardware is worth max 150/200$), it's not clear if that company is only charging a lot, or more. They write about more "mobile traffic mining".. One can think: yes, they want you to advertise their network by giving you something. But here comes the last part, which is the more important: LoRA is very cool and can go as far as you said with the signal, but it's designed for IoT, which transmits at very low speeds, we are talking about kilobytes, if not even bytes per second. It's the kind of communication that can work to send simple messages, but forget about 2/3/4/5g speed and watch videos with that radio! In these days more than before people is living on selling "dreams" to other people. 🙈

Good question. Unfortunately, It’s a long story but I did get a new unit finally. I was earning ok but I didn’t get it set back up yet after the replacement. Prices for hnt have rebounded so I’ll need to get back on it.

Reese thanks for bringing us this new technology and taking the personal investment risk. Perhaps, in hindsight, you should have dropped a sponsor for this video, as there appears to be a conflict of interest between your normal channel goals and this personal project. Looking forward to a follow up once your have your miner up and running.

That’s a good question. There purpose is mainly for Lorawan technology for IOT devices. So you could use it for yourself but the idea for the reward part is to create wide network coverage for others’ devices.

I’ve been waiting for a satisfactory answer from Freedom Fi because their recommended POE splitter broke the power port. I did just make a temp solution to get power to the board and moved locations and it’s actually generating income! I’m eager to see if this keeps up.

I think perhaps there is a misunderstanding, maybe I'm wrong but I'm in no way connected to FreedomFI. The miner broke and I had to fix it and even then my outlook/summary was not good. After watching the whole video, do you feel like I was encouraging people to get a miner? I really appreciate your feedback.

WiFi or radio crypto miners are actually pretty clever, because the difficulty is tied to building a useful network instead of just burning electricity. They aren't "magic money" devices, because you are providing a network service that has cost.

Centralized crypto? No thanks, fiat is bad enough.

I can see many people don't know how energy works. This could work for a lot more than crypto. Thanks for the info it's worth telling.

Help me understand, how do you see me advertising for the miner? The thing broke and I had to fix it, and then my conclusion/outlook was not good. This was a personal project I wanted to try and I thought it would be interesting for people to learn about. I have no connection with FreedomFI and I am not promoting them. Maybe that wasn't clear enough? Thank you for your feedback.

@@FrugalRepair the first part is like a commercial. After that you go on with the Masterworks sponsorship (also kinda scammy). I think you should have been much more critical from the beginning of the video. Maybe then it would be less scammy feeling to watch and only at the end criticizing it. Most people watching probably already stopped watching.

When you're talking about Bitcoin mining, don't show GPU's. Only ASIC's mine btc. Ethereum is GPU's.
