355bhp SUV for £2300? How could I say no?!
Today we take a look at this E53 X5 4.8is LPG conversion that I bought via my car buying service (carsboughtformore.com) from a returning customer of ours. Its quite an impressive car and I think you could say it's the grandad of the X5M... Check the video to see the car and hear my thoughts!

I had one of those from very nearly new (ex-BMW management car with 2700 miles on it and I paid £47k from memory) and it was a lovely place to be. I put 36,000 miles on it during my 12 months of ownership and sold it for about £12k less than I bought it - those were the days when these cars held their values! Whilst the V8 noise was lovely, the biggest problem with the car was the gearbox. It was absolutely shite and the change from 3rd to 4th or 4th to 5th (I can’t remember now) was horrible and just lumpy! I got 18mpg over the 36,000 miles I had it and became very good friends with the local petrol station owner! It could be more frugal, one day I went from Worthing to Brussels and back on a single tank and it got me there and back. I did a TopGear challenge and turned everything off and didn’t push the pedal too hard! The journey was just under 600 miles which from that sized petrol tank and the V8 was pretty impressive! Overall, great memories and cheap motoring all things considered.
The colour is known as Carbon Black - hint of blue but soft paint and shows every mark! The leather is ‘Nappa Leather’ which was an expensive option and much nicer than the normal Dakota leather found in normal BMWs. The sunroof should also work as a normal roof, open and tilt etc.
I do enjoy your videos. Genuine honesty. You have a good business there. Please keep it up 😊
I think the LPG system is a real bonus, certainly reduces running costs, I had a Volvo V6 with LPG, never had any problems with it.
Absolute bargain joe👌🏼 always loved the look of the x5 and shel have a bit of grunt that motor I bet. Good video as always man 👊
Love these. My uncle has had one since new (maybe nearly new) in the same colour, might even be the same spec. Save some bargains for the rest of us 😉
georgeous car there!! it had a lot going for it, in my opinion. ❤
I’ve wanted one of these for years. Might have to grab one.
Amazing video!!
Fantastic looking car
I have a 2005 E53 X5 3.0L. You have to remember these are essentially the Mark I of the X5 line, so the car isn't perfect. On balance, the looks are highly appealing and still current today (it's funny how that works). BMW had more of a rugged concept in mind so you won't find the same trim/appointments that you would in the E39 5 series or the 7 series (I owned a 2002 E39 540i which was also exceptional). Annoyingly, the egress and ingress wasn't well thought out on this vehicle because the seats are on a several inch raised platform. Getting into the car with a suit is a dance. Furthermore, the sound system was truly lacking in quality compared to the high-end 12-speaker in the E39 5 Series. All in all, hope you are still enjoying the vehicle.
Great video
If you run a car on LPG alone the oil normally comes out as clean as the day it went in, I know it does on LPG forklifts but as that is dual fuel it may get a bit murky.
@7:51 It burns cleaner and you save roughly 50% on fuel prices.
I had a E53 X5. The door handle mechanism is a common fault I replaced the front ones on mine at a cost of £25 each. Other than the rocket gaskets needing replaced it was a sound runner

@@ShiftingMetal also if you get a L322 Range Rover 2003-2006 they share a lot of components with the E53 X53. Seat switch gear, door mirrors etc worth keeping in mind
Nice ride! Don’t you have problem with lpg system? I have heard lpg doesn’t work on n62 engines (being problematic)
Wow, £2.3K trade seems incredibly cheap for a car that the previous owner clearly cherished. Good buy. Some issues to sort, the buzzing sound makes it like dating a super model who has chronic flatulence. Too many conflicts. However, what a car for the money. It will fly.
Nice car.
Would be interested in seeing the trade sale part of the business
I spy a big A8, need a video on that please
Nice peak to this. I think this is nicer to have than just a casual Audi Q... oh, Cayanne 😉 In Finland 4.6 IS, 3 in sale, 8,5k and 2x like 10k. And one 4.8k with 21+k. I think you got that one for free,
Just gone on we buy cars for more to see what you would offer for S type Jag
Noise from stereo are - wires are grounded incorrectly. Had same issue, when I put DIY stereo in.

That makes sense. I’ll ask the workshop to whip it out and check
I’ve had a few BMWS, nice, nut not really a fan. That sound would drive me bonkers - I love music & have a great infotainment system in my car, which powers all -round sound and is powered by a B&W 1200 21 speaker system, which I value rather highly. I would love to buy a decent Range Rover or even a very good Discovery - but unfortunately, my car has only 48500 on the clock, & there is no way I could achieve the same specs, changing for the above within my budget.
This is a e46 m3 steering wheel. X5 never had the paddle shifts

Think the colour is Carbon Black ?
I’m pretty sure the coolant should be G20 in BMW’s
The locking beep has been programmed in bimmercode

Ah ok. Some like it I guess, I’m not a fan!
The steering wheel would just have been an upgrade from another car.. Wasn't off a pre-facelift E53 as they didn't do an M-Sport E53.

That steering wheel came from an E46 M3 SMG.
Buying an almost 5 litre petrol engined car with all the associated running and maintenance costs should only be considered by those who can truly afford it. Having an LPG system fitted isn't a viable solution to the problem. Yes it works but the system will also need maintenance and repair. Finding someone proficient to do the work could also be difficult and inconveniant. BMW won't touch it unless it was factory installed. The interference issue on the aftermarket entertainment/info system also goes back to the initial problem. If you can't afford to run and maintain it properly, leave well alone or live with the consequences.
Got a black like that for sales, but a 3l..
LPG is rapidly becoming a total pita to purchase now, and nowhere near as low cost as it used to be. 80p - £1 a litre, and yes, when it goes wrong, you;re going to struggle to find someone to fix it now.. That needs the full on blacked out windows for 'sales' ,cough> btw.

The paintwork on the BMW is the one reason why you shouldn’t buy a car in the wet!

These things have got as much street cred as a £10 bag I’d rather put 2400 nicker into a e46 3 litre diesel or a e39 but gotta be manual and Sport
that dentist drill noise is a deal breaker, it ruins the experience

Hi have u got x5 please if so I sent j email have u gig cheers joe
to bad that this cars end up to resellers
If you cannot afford a 4.8 V8 petrol, then don't buy one. As opposed to ruining it by being a cheapskate and converting it to LPG. FFS!
