I Am The Shaman

Музыка

Donovan’s I AM THE SHAMAN recorded in David Lynch’s Asymetrical Studios in LA and the video directed by David Lynch.
Donovan plays his acoustic guitar ‘Kelly‘ and sings .
David plays his unique Modal Chord Guitar Textures and effects.
This most unusual Poetic Song written by Donovan was recorded in David Lynch's LA Studio, produced by David with his engineer and fellow mixer Dean Hurley. The video directed by David Lynch.

Donovan says
'It was all impromptu. I visited the studio and David said ...
'Sit at the mics with your guitar Don'.
David in same room behind control desk with my Linda.
He had asked me to only bring in a song just emerging, not anywhere near finished.
We would see what happens. It happened!
I composed extempore ... the verses came naturally. New chord patterns effortlessly appeared.
On another day David 'Sound Sculpted' my Ferrington acoustic guitar 'Kelly' and he played his unique Modal Chord Ferrington Guitar textures with ‘Effects'.
David and I are 'Compadres' on a creative path rarely travelled.
And we bring TM Meditation to the world.
This Collaboration between David & I is an Appeal for Donations to help Donovan & Linda give TM Meditation to Cork Students.

I AM THE SHAMAN
Yon wheeling of great stars has cast a silver web around my heart
On an Elfin Sea in a Ship of Filigree
And look upon her prow - a sign upon her brow
She guides us on our way when hearts they go astray
Lorelei Lorelei who will dry your pretty eyes
Lorelei as you fly around those starry skies
Lorelei why O why why O why O Lorelei
Yeah Mon - I am The Shaman
Yeah Mon - I am The Shaman
Yeah Mon - I am The Shaman
Yeah Mon - I am The Shaman
All those wheeling of great stars they cast a spell on me
As I wander through the stars Linda Love and me
I don’t know how I got here but I know where I go
As I wander all I know all I know
Yeah Mon - I am The Shaman
Yeah Mon - I am The Shaman
Yeah Mon - I am The Shaman
Yeah Mon - I am The Shaman

Trippy guitar strumming. This is pretty cool. I was a little kid in the 60's, and clearly remember on my mom's car radio: "Superman and Green Lantern ain't got a-nothin' on me- I can make like a turtle and dive for your pearls in the sea, yeah..." Now, I'm in my SIXTIES, and this guy is still here, creating. Amazing...

Sounds like the guitar is played backwards during the chorus, the trippy "shaman" bit, either recorded forward then played back in reverse or maybe by using an effect to essentially produce the same sound in real time.

You are responsible for taking the Beatles acoustic songs to a new level. I saw you open for Yes in 77 and two people who passed that week were dedicated with one of your songs. I can't remember which song you dedicated to Elvis Presley and Marc Bolan. I got so drunk and was on the verge of being thrown out by the security in front of the stage but ran for my life and twisted my ankle jumping over the boards of the hockey arena and got away. I went to the bathroom and puked my guts out and all of a sudden, I was almost normal and except for ankle pain, I was able to enjoy and remember the concert

This is great..I love the spooky quality. I feel lucky to have seen him perform live one time. Its great that he's still performing. I'm 61 and was quite young when I saw him. ❤

I know Donovan has always had a great sense of humor so here's my take: I think he looks like an impersonation of himeself by Will Ferrell in this video... and that is perfectly fine, and absolutely awesome. I totally love Donovan's music, still relevant today as it has aged so well. ❤️

He played at my highschool in yucca valley. Went to school with his stepson Julian. It was great to see him still making music
