whats really messed up is that, as far as we know, Kris cant survive WITHOUT the soul, hence why Kris always comes back for the soul and why spamton NEO died once he was "free", so no matter what, Kris MUST be controlled, atleast for the time being.

Assuming the world works in a similar way to UT, Kris at the very least needs our DT to live. Otherwise it's likely they'd be stuck listless on a corner, if not dead. Unlike Flowey, they don't have industrial amounts of DT inside them, so soullessness is like trying to cross a desert with only the condensation outside a sealed ice bottle

Effed up situation, for sure.

My favorite line is "I don't want this anymore than you do" because. Us(the player) never really intended to control and inhabit Kris and obviously kris doesn't want to be controlled it's shows that they at least one thing in common but it's definitely one sided we have it better ,kinda like those horse costumes where one person is the front half while the other is the back half we are the driving force Kris is a passenger

In response to your description question: I headcanon that Frisk was made for the exact purpose to be a puppet to the player, so they can't fight back. And they basically grew up with the player in control. While with Kris, they had a life before the player and so therefore can fight the player.

There’s a theory that chara was also a puppet to a player (was, not anymore).

The dreadful yet catchy rhythm and instrumental really sells the almost poetically tragic situation being portrayed so well

Why is the line "screaming, toiling, writhing on the ground, I call out, I call out, and yet nobody came." so relatable for no reason ;-;

with the past kris has with being a prankster and seeing them act like this in the song, it makes the "am i going insane?" line stand out even more

I absolutely love how the droning bass means that this is essentially a repeatable and continuous nightmare. That's a really subtle touch that I think adds so much to it

The haunting genius of this is the line between immersion in the game and the fact that it's just a game, making us essentially part psychopaths to anyone in the game. Sure, we all love these characters, but we also love to see the fun dialogue and fights in the darker, yet darker (lol) routes. It's all a game to us. No matter how attached you get, so long as that game is downloaded, all it takes is a bored day and some intrusive thoughts. I wonder how long till you get bored :)

I love how haunting this is, for example? How would *you* feel if you couldn’t control yourself and someone you don’t even know was controlling you, and all you could do is *watch.* some people think of the whole ripping the soul out thingy is creepy, for me, yes, I do find it unsettling, but I also find it refreshing to see Kris able to control themself even for a little bit.

Finally, someone using their correct pronouns! And also, I really hope that the feeling of helplessness in this song gets explored more in canon, because it really is the heart scene that relays how desperate Kris is. Desperate enough to rip out their own soul, just for that tiny bit of control, that for all we know was short enough that they could barely eat a pie back in chapter 1. It was when we finally realized that they were someone other than us.

This instrumental is perfect because it definitely gives that feeling of ‘if things keep going this way shit’s gonna hit the fan’

something i always found fascinating and reassuring about kris is that... despite OUR control over them they still develop a real friendship with susie in their head too, as evident by susie tea's effect on kris and how they will always try to make susie not look bad despite you making choices for them (if you choose "lost sleep from being susies partner" alphys will comment about how its weird they said it with no negative intonation at all. theyre definately still traumatised by this whole ordeal (if them screaming after the spamton neo fight is any indication), but im just happy they can still get something out of it all, when making choices in future chapters ill try my best to choose what i think kris wouldve preffered... unless the ither option is funnier GKFMFKDK ANYWAY REALLY GOOD SONG you RULE at making both the backing track and you beautiful vocals sound haunting, i LOVE IT!! brb going ti share this with my friends

Honestly, I think my favorite part of this song is how different yet similar each voice is in terms of their goals and motives. The white voice is clearly meant to be a stand in for Kris, while the red voice is a particularly malicious interpretation of the Player. Yet they both constantly threaten each other, and have a palpable battle for control, and are far more similar than they realize, which is shown best after about the halfway point where it almost feels like the roles of the voices are changed, red being put into a weaker position and white having the true power. I don't know if that last one is the actual intention, but regardless, this is an amazingly put together song!

in the white text it says "I don't want this anymore than you do, stuck in a cage where I cannot move." while also in white text it says "For I walk not on my own will." so I believe that the voice of Kris and the player change color in the subtitles.

⁠@@desktop977 I think the opposite tbh The Player’s lyrics seem to acknowledge and feel bad for what they’re doing to Kris, while also highlighting that it’s not their fault because this was Kris’s idea in the first place. So it feels like evidentlyfresh thinks Kris is the Second Voice (The one who discards your vessel and sticks you with Kris), hence them both walking not on their wills; The Player doesn’t want to hurt Kris but has to see where the game’s story goes, and Kris is self-explanatory

For a Kris Fan song, i was perfectly expecting a 3 minute silence. You did an amazing job, one member of the lancer fan club to go!

I kinda love this and how well it represents Kris’ story as it sounds GOOD while still having a swinging of the pendulum dreadful kind sound with the fantastical fantasy adventures with the insanely terrifying concept of not controlling your actions…

I absolutely love the foreboding tone of this one, really selling on the situation that Kris is struggling so hard in their situation. Also, on the description about Frisk also being in this situation, I actually do want to point out that Frisk at one point refused our commands. In the true lab, fighting against Snowy and trying to Laugh or Heckle at them will prompt text about how Frisk was really mean to them, only for the narrator to get confused when Frisk refuses to actually do it. No matter how hard you try, Frisk outright refuses to follow our command. Thought you'd find that interesting.

​@@chaotixthefox alright i just made up a whole theory about this is the case, if i missed something that counters what im about to say please tell me So what i think this is is that the player doesnt have that deep of a control in reality, you choose what Kris will say, but not how they will, like after the Spamton NEO fight where they scream the "no" option, or how if you choose to fight Undyne in her house, even if it isnt the fake attack option, you will still deal only 1 damage, and as the original comment, they straight up refuse to laugh at Snowdrake's mom, the thing these have in common is that its the Pacifist route, in which Frisk only has 1 LV, the same as Kris in the light world, i think that LV works like this The less LV, the more freewill to the one being controlled, at LV 1 Frisk refuses to do things for us and Kris straight up rips us out Anywhere before LV 19 there is the Player, which we have mostly full control over the body we inhabit, except for the times we walk during a character talking and start a battle during genocide, in which we have the Highest LV possible And at high levels, there is Chara, like when we get to LV 20 we dont have control over our actions inside of battle i might have missed something though, havent played undertale in ages lol

The instrumental here is so perfect for a song that feels like it’s building up to something horrible… It feels like one last cry for help, a final attempt at threatening you before Kris snaps, and does something they’ll probably regret.

This is such a good song! I listen to it several times in a row. I especially love the "I don't want this anymore than you do" "You don't want this anymore than I do" chorus. "Stuck with a heart that is tearing you apart" Makes me think about how people use fantasy for escapism, and I see this as the perspective of someone using Deltarune to keep away from reality. Just a little thought, y'know?

There's a lot here to unpack. So, something I'm able to pick up on is the White and Red aren't a one to one for who's speaking. Both Kris and the soul seem to be switching which color represents them which ironically highlights just how close we actually are to Kris. I like how you can tell when this switching of colors occurs. Examples. "Stuck with a heart that is tearing you apart." This is Kris. "Stuck in a cage where I cannot move." This is us. "I am just biding my time." This is us. "Tear you limb from limb." This is 100% Kris feeling absolutely done with our shit. Both we and Kris don't want this. But, neither one of us are actually able to do anything about it. So, it results on this back and forth for control that is just hurting Kris and us. Eventually somethings gotta give.

I’ve had this hope since the end of Chapter 2. I really, really want Deltarune to end with the permanent shattering of the soul. I want Kris to have their life back and think it’d be a very Toby move for the only way for that to happen to be the death of the player. I’d especially like it if it was Kris themself who shattered us, to show them being the one to break themself free of us. Man, Kris is my favorite character and I actively want them to literally kill me. I wonder what that says about my psyche-

I think by the end of the game our vessel will be found and we will leave kris. Kris gets his life back and we have our own body. We both get to live.

@@thenobody7509 That’s totally valid. Your idea sparked one in my brain. Okay so there’s tons of theories about the final boss of DR being either Gaster or Ralsei. While I adore both of these ideas and would cry particularly hard if it were the latter, another thought popped up. Kris. Kris is the final boss. Can you imagine that? We pilot the vessel and they have their body back and it’s a one on one, real time event like the Undyne chase sequences and the Lancer attack at the beginning of Chapter 1. Just us and our self preservation, and Kris and their pent up rage and the scars of how traumatized they’ve become by us. Bet the music for that would be absolutely killer, pun intended ;)

Not going to lie, depending on the context of the playthrough, it can get really dark. (Like during Snowgrave, It essentially tells that The Player is in control and essentially makes Kris do all of these actions and also making him beginning to manipulate Noelle!)

I love the haunting rhythm that follows this song. It really shows how messed up it is to have someone else other than you control your every action. This has definitely been a nightmare that I’ve had more than once. Because of this, it might just be my favorite of your Deltarune songs! Also can we take a moment to appreciate the art. Just look at Kris! He’s seems so . . . tired. I love it! It really emphasizes that fatigue he feels from following the soul’s every wish.

I...I don't even know what to say. That is such an interesting and creepy take on Kris as a character, and their relation with the player. The instrumental is always looming in the song, and the melody seems so haunting...I think I heard something similar to your Girl next door song in it? The back and forth between the Heart and Kris (at least, that's what I'm assuming) is SO. COOL. And I don't think I need to reafirm how much I love your voice, it just sound perfect. This was beautifuly put together. Congratulations ! It's amazing, as always !

And the "Stuck with a heart that is tearing you apart" line could just be the soul referring to itself in the third person.

Man, i just cant wait for the entirety of deltarune. its has been 1 year since chapter 2, and i think that the game will come out in 3-6 months from now. Also, nice song showing the despair of kris, even though the soul (player) wants to control kris, he is actually a powerful entity being able to hold back the godly powers of the player itself.

@@Z0neXDthebestI think from a thematic perspective (especially with the parallels to undertale) using they/them solely for Kris is very interesting as they’re not a self insert unlike frisk and arguably chara, those two are you or an extension of you, you are their every move and they don’t even exist outside of your control. Kris on the other hand is very much their own person, they have likes, dislikes, friends, memories, motivations that we the players didn’t give them, even their name is not ours but theirs. Then being non-binary would be the same as if they’d been referred to as ‘he’ or ‘she’ throughout the game, although they can be used for anyone I would think one of the characters would’ve slipped a gendered pronoun in if it wasn’t at least meant to be a possibility

Being someone's puppet for a very a long time is very,very painful but soon the strings will be cut and freedom is within your reach so don't lose hope my friend i know what is the feeling to be controlled.

“Tear you limb from limb. Doesn’t that sound nice?” I feel like a lot of people are gonna say that this lyric is a little... murdery for Kris, but like can we really blame them if this is what they’re thinking? MFer we’re literally possessing them constantly, making them do things they don’t want to do, actively traumatizing them every single second, making them speak when they’re canonically selective mute and so many other things that I could name. If you were in their shoes, wouldn’t you want to do the same thing? Also this song is exactly the thing I needed for kris. Chapter 1 end ate a pie(cause they prob didnt eat all day cause dark world food doesn't fill you up also to make toriel cook a pie next day would give them a reason to wash there hands and rip out there soul the next day) Chapter 2 opened a dark fountain with said knife slashed the tires and opened the door my guess is because A kris slashed the tires to make toriel call the cops and to make sure susie wont ask toriel the to take her to ther house B kris opened a dark fountain to show both undyne and toriel they exist C kris opened the door to give the police a reason to go inside the house and go inside the dark fountain

Honestly, I somehow missed this track for myself, and when I heard the beginning I thought I wouldn't like it, but after listening to it, I can say with confidence that this is my second favorite song from you. This disturbing music and the style of the song itself, which looks more like a dialogue, looks very interesting. I've always wanted to see this type of dialogue between Kris and Soul. I like that it looks like a dialogue after the event of the snow grave, and the way the Soul makes Kris feel guilty for what he did, like Noel in your other song. And I feel that I won't be able to convey all my emotions in English, so I'll just say that it's a great job. (written google translate)

Goddamn this is good. The droning start akin to Another Him (unless I’m mistaken with a different start of game track) really settles me into an unnerved mood, it’s really cool, especially that super dissonant duet connection into the final chorus; what’s their spacing, a tritone, a flat third? I’m always curious about the technical structure every song is built upon.

Love this, Mrs. Fresh. Like the weird instrument stuff.

Ok, so i just started looking at this series through a perspective that the event's of the game all happened before but with Us the player which lead to the world destruction. Ok, so this song ironically kinda fits the idea that in another time Kris unintentionally caused the roaring and their current situation is a kind of punishment.

YOOOO I luv the sound of this song man and the echoey stuff it's SO COOL :D Oh and yea I LOVED the lore from the sweepstakes especially as a major spamton fan who loved the q&a lmao but also the teasers for the new chapter were very cool and I can't wait to see where it goes with Noelle and her sister Dess IM SO HYPED so in summary BANGER SONG and LOVED THE SWEEPSTAKES :)

"I don’t want this anymore than you do." Technically, that doesn’t mean they don’t want it...just that we want it more. Which plays nicely into the lines, "Something inside you wonders what would I do, if I controlled your every move." and "Could you really put the blame onto me? Do you want your fantasy to become your reality?" Maybe Kris doesn’t want this anymore than we do, but they might have some desire to give up control, or have at least given it plenty of thought. Could be a result of some deeper set traumas or depression, but regardless...it's interesting to think about.

Beautiful song honestly 10/10 lyrics general tone, usually the more chaotic and energetic a song the more I like it yet this song defies that. Especially “do you want your fantasy to become your reality?” And just all the lyrics are beautiful. If I had *one* critique it’d be probably the soul and kris sound too alike but still 10:10

I don't think Frisk even has a will of their own. Unlike Kris, they are simply a mindless puppet that exists solely to follow the player's commands (with Chara occasionally tugging at the reins). Some of the dialogue we get on a genocide run especially hints that they may not even be human.
