Tucson any day 💪💪💪

Though the SUVs are meant for off roading. But lets face this, people living in metro cities hardly use them for off roading. So SUVs’ purpose is never actually served. We Indians are just blindly buying them.

some of our roads are basically offroads, and I lost the engine of my 2008 accord when it got flooded, trying to drive through a slightly deep bit of road in the monsoon. So yeah suvs are decent for the indian market.

Speed breakers in India are made by god of death ...my Ford Figo underbelly got damaged with a lot of scratches due to this..so I learnt to to get a car with high ground clearance no matter however the body roll may be. I live in Hyderabad which is a metro city...

I'm from lucknow and we have 2018 Honda city and the front approaching angle is soo low that it scrapes through places where you can't even imagine it would. You can check any 2018 or 2019 Honda city and you will find scratch marks below front bumper. We have a driver but we don't allow him to drive Honda city as he is used to driving our other car which is scorpio. On the very first week when we bought city he bumped it into a pothole thinking that it will cross. So you do need a SUV in India.

You are practically off-roading everyday if you are driving on Indian roads

Drove Tiguan, Compass and Tuscon. Tiguan is the best and has no match. Compass is better off-roader. But I don't take these kind of cars off-road. Safety, performance, comfort, build quality is best in Tiguan.

What about the ground clearance..which one have better ground clearance

Tucson 2022 new version has been released. Need to do this comparison again

Tiguan and passat are probably the best looking cars in the indian market today

All VW offerings definitely needs a big time refresh. We have been seeing the same thing since ages now and while competition is bringing their international offerings or updating their cars VW is sticking with the same old thing. I want to see more offerings or updates coming from VW and hopefully they do it soon else competition will certainly take over.

Thank you Autocar for finally justifying Tiguan for its value. I wish you would make the comparison with other three German companies. Cause that’s the market it affects.

Test drove both cars and bought the Tucson. The Tiguan's engine is underpowered for its build for Indian conditions where you need quick bursts of torque for overtakes in the city. A few extra features put the price too high for the Tiguan as well. The only things I felt was missing in the Tucson was a Sunroof and rain sensing wipers which the Tiguan has. Honestly for the heat in India nobody needs heated seats. Cooled seats would have been good though. And for an offroader the Tiguan has no spare type which was the biggest problem for me with the car.

Abhishek Ravindra u never drove both. If u have driven, u should have noticed paddle shifters, self sealing tires(so no spare wheel), full time LED DRL, one of the best gear box, underfloor AC vents, Better AWD and road grip, speed sensitive steering, and better build quality. Did u use sport mode? Did u turn off stability control?

Congrats on your buy. Fully agree with the spare wheel concern but heated seats are a heaven send on cold winter mornings! Cooled seats would have been nice too

Akshay Kumar Lol. I did test drive both. Wouldn't want to spend 30+ lakhs without checking all options. All black interiors on the Tiguan makes it seem cramped inside. For our use at home, paddle shifters wasn't a requirement. Self sealing tires are good. But again, they're expensive to replace when worn out and for Indian conditions having a spare tire is always a plus. You never know when you'll need it. In all honesty, I felt the AWD, Steering and road grip of the Tucson was better. That was my opinion though. To top it all off, I live in Shimoga, Karnataka and even after these many years there isn't a Volkswagen Sales or Service Center here. Anyway, my two major issues with the Tiguan were the underpowered engine and a huge cost bump for not much more in term of features. A couple lakhs more and you get a Kodiaq.

Nikhil Bhatia That's true for the chilly North Indian winters. For someone from Shimoga, Karnataka where December January temperatures dip to a minimum of 19-20C and summers of 35, cooled seats are what we look for. After living in Delhi for a year in 2016, I completely agree with the need of heated seats there in Dec-Feb.

In North America, they sell a longer version of the Tiguan that has a third row. It competes with the Hyundai Santa Fe, not the Tucson.

Siddharth Tanna lol your comment proves you probably drive an alto. The longer wheelbase version of tiguan is called Tiguan Allspace. Touareg is a more premium suv.

Siddharth Tanna nope Tiguan in a higher package has a third row sitting (which what we have). And suppose to compete with Santa Fe not Tucson. Touareg is a different Suv 👍

The actual competitor for tiguan is santa fe. Tucson is cheaper than santa fe. And see that tucson is almost close to tiguan. So i would prefer tucson and it is more punchier in terms of performance.

It is good car Tucson and subcompact other than honda Volkswagen Toyota and the company brand is hyundai I love hyundai Tucson

Still felt both suv prices are no where near. Endeavour 2.2 ltr can be compared to tiguan not Tucson. Difference of 5 lakh isnt a joke.

the one thing that irritates me most of the Tucson and for some reason all reviewers miss is the fact that it does not have a charging socket in the second row? no USb no charging port. that weird.

Tiguan is a subtle luxury at a price of 36 lacs 15 lacs lessre than merc gla or even x1

Tucson is much better as compared to the vw base variant without sunroof

TUCSON is the best

Tiguan is best in all.

Tiguan need a engine with higher state of tuned to match up with Tucson and infact Jeep compass like performance.I hope VW does it in 2019.

Hmm, yes Heated mirrors! used to avoid foggy view on rainy days usually it will in rear window. You may also noticed some of the cars dont have wipers on there rear window that's because they have headed mirrors!.

I really don’t understand that why these cars don’t sell in large numbers. According to me, a number customers are moving to the JEEP COMPASS. Brand value plays a significant role here. Non-car people cannot actually understand what Volkswagen is. By the way , The JEEP COMPASS is a great choice but indeed has some flies in the ointment.

Yeah. It is not good as these two. I don't understand why the cars that don't do well in European and Chinese markets do well in Indian market. Tiguan excelled in European, Chinese and American markets.

tiguan is far better in driving dynamics than any other car of the same league... drive it to know it..

Hyundai Tucson is a better option, considering the fact that VW doesn't have resale value.

If one really needs an off-roader, why wait for the trailhawk? Just get the Toyota. For a city SUV, or whatever this crazy new trend is, the German car is definitely better than the Korean, no doubt.

That's wrong for size because I have vw tiguan and hyundai tucson and tucson is taller longer and wider

The new Endeavour makes more sense and value for money than these two. Great companion Autocar. Very helpful ✌🏻

What's the point of buying these cars where we can shift to endeavor or Fortuner ... More over in long run Tiguan will lose value and maintenance will be expensive

Danish Khan enjoy the body rolll in both those big ass cars then. And more importantly the comfort features and ambiance inside the cabin of the Tiguan is even better than the Audi q3. The Tiguan is for specific costumers who like to experience German entry level luxury without showing off the brand value. You won’t understand. The Tiguan is ahead of its time. There are people who don’t prefer big butchy diesel sucking suvs with massive body roll. If you haven’t taken a ride in all these cars then please don’t comment without considering all the options. I have experienced all the cars mentioned here. And who will when do that much off-roading and the Tiguan and the Tucson is perfectly capable of handling our bad roads and occasional off-roading. Moreover the endeavour and the fortuner are always a nuisance when it comes to parking in cities.

Never seen a VW Tiguan on road or in the Showrooms here in Goa.

Tiguan sucks for its price. Why would anybody chose a 30 lakh 5 seater poor maintenance, limited feature car over a Toyota fortuner or a Ford endeavour. Tuscan is good for it's price.

That holds better the value of the vehicle.

Tiguan is not VFM while Tucson is more of a Creta which goes to gym ! Better to buy Jeep Compass trailhawk if you really want a good cross-over in this price. And Fortuner is sheer wastage of money. Looks big from outside but cramped inside with loads of body roll.

Both the Tucson and Tiguan have turbo charged engines. It would be impossible to see the power/torque figures like these in NA engines.

Of the two, I prefer Kodiaq. In fact, I would take the Kodiaq over Fortuner even.

As always VW outmatched tuscon in every aspect. Butin quality build hyundai is wayyy to behind VW.. a bit of some personalisation VW will look badazz.. Vw is more like men's ride.

Very few shall buy these two when you have the Fortuner and the endeavour

Fortuner drive and seating comfort has no comparison with tiguan. Tiguan is far better. Fortuner cheap show. Unfortunately that's what sells lol
