Thanks so much. Saved me a ton of money towing it to a dealership, diagnostics, repair... Just a heads up for ya'll, when you call a parts store or dealership for a new starter relay for the 2013 - 2017 Santa Fe, they don't have a part number for it. You have to order the blower motor relay instead. It's the same part.

This absolutely helped, thank you for making this video. I unplugged the starter relay and reseated it, but didn't help. After trying the paper clip trick (had no paperclips but stripped the ends of some residential electrical copper wire), something clicked and it didn't start. However the second time, it started up beautifully. I left it running for about ten minutes and shut it off. The second normal start with the key fob and push button started it again.

May i ask which of the 4 prong combinations worked? I tried all 3 brass with copper like another poster & none worked. 1 gave me a little spark but no starting action

Thank you for this video. I thought I would have to get my vehicle towed as it would not start. Turn the key and only clicking like a dead battery. Battery fully charged. I tried this and it worked perfectly to get the engine running. My battery was not holding the charge and would die. Replaced the battery, sorted.

Thank you for the video. My situation was I have a 2011 an I pulled the fuse out an placed it back. You can even switch out the air conditioner fuse it’s the same size an sometimes that works. After 20 min my car started. Then the next day happen again so I ordered a brand née starter fuse. Tada fixed it. My battery is new an my alternator was good also. Hope this helps anyone out there with 2011. Ps I’m gunna out some needle nose pliers in my car

Not all heroes wear capes because you just solved a year long problem with my Hyundai Santa Fe 2007 thanks so much. I have literally been force starting the car with the remote start key and by manually starting it for a year now because sometimes the car won’t turn over for nothing just dead in the water until like 20 tries then it will start smh did this trick tonight literally started right up. Thank you just tried this on my brother Santa Fe that would not start. It didn't appear to work like yours did in the video but it did start cranking the engine. So we decided to try hitting the start button after it turned over with the paper clip in and success.

Worked for me as well. OEM replacement part is technically called a "Relay - Power". Part number is "H 95230 - 2P030".

Hi we got a santa fe crdi 2008 it wont start but it cranks we change the battery with a new one. we tried that diagnostic tool that you connect to the ecu it says fuel injection system if i can remember can you do a vid on that Thanks

My ac has never worked, and its the same relay as my starter relay so I just switched them and it worked. I didnt need the paper clip.

Got an 07, all wheel drive if that matters. It has 3 brass looking ones & only 1 copper. Another poster pointed me to the 2 I need to connect. Now does it have to be a paper clip or would really skinny nosed needle nose pliers or 2 really small micro screwdrivers work?

My kid's did the same thing, I hoped it was the relay or a bad ground maybe. No such luck, needed a starter. Not the worst job in the world, but it was winter, so even easy jobs tend to suck.

Looks like you might be wearing snow pants, does your Santa Fe only do this below certain temps and have you looked into it further since you did this video ? I have a 2015 Santa Fe that I had a new engine put in last fall, usually it's parked in garage but one night it was out of garage and it got cold and next morning wouldn't start, couldn't even jump it. I'm pretty experienced with car repairs and reasonably knowledgeable about electronic trouble shooting, long story did end up getting a new battery and all seemed well even left it outside a couple of nights but about a week later it did it again so evidently the other nights did not get cold enough. I'm thinking maybe when the new engine was put in they didn't get connections tight on starter or maybe bumped it or something. Was working on some other projects and forgot about it and usually it was in garage at night. Anyway had to park it outside last night and this morning wouldn't start, got down to around 24 deg this morning, tried a few things and nothing worked, checked voltage on battery and it was okay, pulled relay out and jumpered it and started right up. Relay got replaced last fall so I'm not sure that's it ?

I just bought a 2011 Santa Fe and am having this issue already. What is the ultimate fix to the issue? Or do you just have to do this method everytime it won't start?

I’m not sure. I only see this from time to time on rental cars. Try replacing the relay or simply swapping it for one of the same part number out of the fuse box like for your horn.

Genius!!! Purchased my 2018 Santa Fe in July and since October I have been dealing with this problem. I can't seem to get help from the dealer, Carmax nor Hyundai Corporation. Is there a way to permanently fix this issue? My kids have missed school three times because of this problem. I truly appreciate you posting this trick.

It may be due to low battery voltage. I had a report from someone that the vehicle would start by jumping the relay or using just plain jump starting it. I’ve run into this same problem with heavy trucks where they won’t crank due to low voltage. Even while hooked up with cables the ignition can’t get the signal to the relay until voltage has reached an acceptable level. Bypassing the failsafe and jumping the relay or doing so at the starter solenoid works even while below the voltage threshold for the computer to allow the signal through.

What if you try this and nothing happens? What determines replacement of the starter? Would it be no spark or the motor won't start when you try this hack? Come on guys

@@qwilliamson9117 I thought I fixed the problem. 2017 sport. I got a new agm battery nothing. Then I read a forum where the starter nut needed to be tightened. I took off the intake and did that and it worked for a bout a week. But now same problem. Not sure if the nut needs to be tightened again or replaced.

Should this also be the same for a 2013?

I wonder if this method could fix for cold winter issue, but I would give it try if my car won't start.

If you remove the starter relay will this prevent the car from starting at all?

Does this also work for a push to start? I have the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe and it was checked out by 2 different dealerships who saw no problems. Now all the lights will come on, but my car won’t crank.

How about no power at all? like is dead. maybe battery? mine is 2019 push-button and control doesn't work but flash so I think is working. Now to open the car I use the hidden key and open the hud but again I don't know that to do.

Maybe a dead battery in the fob. Also if the main battery fuse has been blown by hooking up cables in the wrong polarity the hazard lights will usually still work.

How about different relay with only 1 cooper pins?

My relay is a big square one and all terminals are the same size?

what fixed my no start was the shifter cable being loose for my 2013 kia soul took over a year to figure that out had to keep jumping the starter relay to start .. had it set up where I just had to tap it to start .. sall good til I hit a bump in the road so it was cranking while I was driving .. worst burnt smell ever white smoke coming out the dash I thought the car was gonna explode lol ..

My Santa Fe is a 2004 and it only starts in Neutral. Still trying to find a solution before having to take it in.

I replaced starter relay on my wifes 2017 santa fe, but again car didnt want to start yesterday but then finally got it to start. Had it at the dealer in Nov they saie they dont know whats up and the battery was strong. Im going to replace the neutral safety switch this week to see if that helps

Did you get this resolved? My 2017 Santa Fe has the start problem intermittently. After two or three tries, it eventually starts. Then runs fine starting for a few days, then the problem again.

It’s just a one time shot. Still unclear what makes it happen. Might be a low or shorted battery, might be a bad relay?

Well mine has no lights in dash, like a dead battery. But I have not drove in a couple of days, no problem. It’s done this once before. Neighbor charged battery. Took to AutoZone had them check the battery, it’s good. Soooo IDK, I’m stuck. Thank goodness I’m at home and not somewhere in a hot parking lot. sucks🤬My fobs haven’t worked since I got, got new batteries but 🤷🏼‍♀️ I just use key to unlock and lock using door console. Ffffffff!!!

If it’s a rapid clicking noise it is likely a low battery. If it only clicks once/each time you turn the key try tapping on the starter with a hammer.

Tinkering Fox Not sure if high will see this , but I have a 2017 Tucson Hyundai. Originally it was saying keyfob not detected, however now the truck seems to want to start but there’s rapid clicking and it won’t turn on. The keyfob unlocks and locks the vehicle. The alarm sound does work when I click the lock button. Could it be a dead battery in the vehicle or maybe a new fob is needed ?

I want to fix the problem permanently.. this is cool but maybe the starter or the relay or both...
