I wanted to say thank you for your video!! I have a Hyundai Santa Fe 2013. My mechanic wanted to replace the whole turbo because I had a loss in power at $2000. After watching your video I asked him to check the turbo actuator and because of your video I saved a lot of money on that part. That was the fix the actuator was bad. So I wanted to thank you so very much I love all your videos!!

Thanks A1 Auto, for the informative video. I bought a 2017 Sport , lease return, from my local dealer in 2018. Called the former lessor, to get his input. He told me the reason he returned it after only a year, was that he needed the larger model to haul his grandchildren around. So he bought the version with extra seating. Otherwise he loved it. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this vehicle, and would consider another in the future. Mine now has 58k, and is dealer maintained. I will say, I do prefer the screen location in this model, to the newest version. Gas mileage has been steady, between 25-28mpg. I’m hoping to keep this one for many years, because it does feel like a solid design and ride. Very comfy.

I am surprised you didn't speak about the main issue, the burning of oil. My 2017 Sanatfe burns oil so fast. There's no oil level sensor in such a modern vehicle. Failure to manually check oil on a bi-weekly basis will lead to you engine breaking. If u want to get this vehicle check and top up oil every 2weeks otherwise your engine will break.

Great video but they forget the biggest issue with these vehicle. The engines blow up!!! I'm an Hyundai tech of 4 years. I'm replacing these engine and any of Hyundai 4 cylinders on almost a daily basis. There is a recall for this problem so if you have major engine troubles, call the dealer first.

I have a 2014 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T. Last September, (2020) we were pulling a utility trailer (empty) back to our house, about an hours drive. We just bought it (used). It was banging up and down at the tongue, and I was getting concerned, though it wasn't loose. Suddenly, the engine slowed down, wouldn't rev up, but I was able to maintain some speed. I stopped to check it out, nothing seems to be wrong otherwise. So a check with a meter at an auto parts store revealed my knock sensor went out due to the noise my trailer was making. After checking up on line, we found the sensor was on *recall* . So check your VIN to see if yours is on recall. After talking to Hyundai, they said the *whole engine was on recall* ! So they replaced the engine with a new factory engine including the knock sensor and, according the build sheet, the turbo as well! Didn't charge us a thing. Took about six weeks, they gave us a loaner car from the rental next door. No issues, 100% guaranteed engine, full drive train to a hundred thousand miles! It was around 76K when it went out. So I still have a hundred thousand miles on it to go! I just wished that American cars and trucks (are you reading this GM?) would give this kind of service!

I beg to differ on issue P2562 - "Turbo Waste gate actuator voltage out of range". This can be fixed by simply adjusting the length of the actuator's connecting rod to bring the voltage output of the actuator back into its required voltage range (typically 3.9 to 4.1 volts DC). This should be tried first to eliminate the need to replace the actuator or turbo unit. Takes about 1 hr for an inexperienced mechanic to complete. I've done it myself, and it worked great and saved me a LOT of money.

Knock sensor tripped in my used 2013 Santa Fe just a few months after I bought it. Turned out to be a machining error on the bolts, causing metal flakes to get into the oil and circulate. I got a brand new engine installed by Hyundai via recall. Love my Santa Fe and I love that the company made it right. Will be upgrading to a newer one soon!

Sent an oil sample to Blackstone and it came back no issues and no trace metals indicating a bearing issue. This car had a Carfax showing dealer oil changes every 4000 miles. The biggest thing in my ownership of a 2014 turbo is the factory recall on the engine, due to some kind of residual residue in the engine it clogs ports in your engine and then oil can't get to the bearings so the bearings end up going Hyundai actually replaces your engine for free I was driving down the road my vehicle went into limp mode it was the knock sensor the engine was definitely knocking the bearings went and getting a new engine put in now

Watch out for the oil pressure sensor on the 3.3 V6. It can blow apart on hard acceleration. Results in Massive oil loss oil pressure light on and a big repair bill with a tow as you won’t have enough oil in the engine to drive it to a service station. Dealers are well aware of this common problem with the V6 and the oil pressure switch can blow out more than once in the life of the car. Should definitely be a recall. 3.3 V6 is also direct gas injection and gets oil dirty faster than most engines and has comparably poor mileage to other V6s

Another common problem I have found with and a few other hyundais, is the discharge hose from the a/c compressor leaks, the rubber hose must shrink in the aluminium crimp letting the gas leak out, It's easy to tell, just look at the hoses that run off the compressor, it's the thinner of the 2, look there the rubber hose is crimped to the aluminium, if it's covered in oil, there's your problem, the hose will either need to be repaired or replaced with a new one

One key issue (arguably the single most important) not mentioned in this video: the direct fuel injection for this series WILL cause catastrophic engine failure sometime between 30,000 and 200,000 miles. Mine died at 123,000. Through the course of this drama, I spoke with multiple Hyundai techs who told me it's sort of a "public secret" that Hyundai has chosen to omit from any service bulletins. The upside is that if you take your Hyundai in to the dealer, they're very likely to replace your engine with a rebuilt engine one (which will, sadly demonstrate the same failure at some point-in which case, you'll have to "rinse & repeat.")

Just had this done on April of 2022. They have a recall now on several Hyundai and Kia engines 2011-2016. I've had so many issues with ignition coils, spark plugs, turbo and yet they did NOT replace those parts due to the main issue that led to these parts failing. I've just purchased another set of ignition coils since the engine was replaced. Replacing the engine (which is actually just failed parts inside it) does not fix the domino parts that have been affected by these issues that car makers will not take responsibility for. Not impressed by dealerships lack of pushing for makers to actually fix the FULL issues that consumers should not have to cover due to their poor craftsmanship.

Have a 2013 hyandai Sante Fe. After driving and going up the smallest of hills, the breaks will engage and the car will not move until it cools off. It will also have a burning smell of which we assume was from brake fluid leaking?? Took to dealership and they couldn’t figure it out but wanted to charge $2000 to replace abs system but couldn’t guarantee that would fix the problem. This was what was told after having the car at dealership for over 2 weeks. We couldn’t pay $2000 for what “may or May not be the problem “, so took it to a shop and he replaced the abs sensor and system and still didn’t work and he finally gave up not able to figure it out. Made complaint to Hyundai, took info and about 3 weeks later they called and said there’s nothing they can do. It’s not on recall. Do you know what could possibly be causing break to engage after going up the smallest of hills. When it does it, it also smells of fluid as if the break fluid is leaking out. It will not move until it cools off and it got to the point where it didn’t matter if it was a hill, it would just stop. And isn’t it ridiculous dealership can’t figure it out? We can’t drive it and can’t afford new car. Help!!

Let me add to the problem list. The A/C high side discharge line leaks refrigerant and the early 2013-14 AWD models have rear differential coupler issues. Makes a popping type sound in the rear when turning slowly. How do I know? Cause I diagnose and fix this junk. haha

This vehicle on the video seems to have significant rust and corrosion on exposed under vehicle parts. We don't see that here in a dryer part of the country. Another "issue" with this vehicle is premature wear from the front sway bar links that results in clunking even over very small bumps. Best to replace with Moog links which have fittings to grease. This vehicle, as most know, has a GDI injection system which can result in excessive loss of performance/power due to carbon build up on the back side of the intake valves. I have found that an intake cleaner (such as CRC) simply sprayed into the intake makes a significant difference. A way to reduce the build up this is to install a simple oil "catch can" in line with the vacuum line going into the PCV .....just have to drain the "can" about every oil change.

I did exactly the same thing and the vehicle runs fine. In the last two years, the engines have gdi and efi to eliminate the need for valve cleaning. Other manufacturers have done that also.

  • @quesokid4959

Always remember to clean the carbon off the valves and stuff cuz these DI engines always fail if that is not maintained.

Alright. My knock sensor killed my engine (well, rightfully so) and Hyundai replaced it about two years ago, however ever since the engine was replaced I’ve had occasional problems getting the new engine to turn over when starting. Particularly in hot weather. I’ve taken it to multiple dealerships attempting to get a diagnosis but they can never replicate the problem (One did, actually, but they diagnosed it as a loose wire on the starter which they tightened. The problem is not the starter as it does crank, and their fix did not resolve the issue). Could this problem be related to the Crankshaft Position sensor? Perhaps it wasn’t adjusted right or it was damaged when they replaced the engine?

I have a 2019 2.0 litre turbo Santa Fe (it's 5 years old now) with push button start. There are 76k kilometerrs on it. Sometimes it won't start. I hear the clicking of the starter relay picking up, but the starter won't even turn over. It's almost like there is some kind of interlock issue. It's very intermittent and just starting happening about 1 year ago. The battery is ok. I swapped the starter relay and that did'nt make any difference. Sometimes when it won't start, I wait a few minutes and then try starting it through the bluelink app; and it still won't start. Then I'll try again 10 minutes later and it starts ok from the push button. Sometimes it does start from blue link app. I also changed the batteries in the key fob and that did'nt make a difference. It's a very random issue but lately it's happening more frequently. Next I will try cleaning the starter electrical terminal connections (positive and ground terminals) but I doubt that is the issue. Does anybody else have this issue ? Any ideas what else I can check ? I did take it to the dealership and they scanned it for codes and found nothing. They tried to replicate the non-start issue, but it kept starting ok at the dealership. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you (Dec 11, 2023).
