Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Review | The world’s best EV?!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

#Hyundai #Ioniq5 #Ioniq5N
Hyundai has built a reputation for producing some impressive performance cars over the last few years, but the Ioniq 5 N is undoubtedly the most ambitious. A fully electric 641bhp all-wheel drive hot-hatchback, it aims to bring fun and driver enjoyment to a type of car that, so far, has struggled to deliver thrills behind the wheel. Has it succeeded? CAR magazine’s James Dennison finds out.

EVs a dead duck.. Manmade climate change is a hoax..models don't inc the sun. CO2 doesn't drive temp and only makes up less than 4% total atmospheric gasses anyway so who cares. In short wakey wakey sheeple..

if you are a driving enthusiast, it is vomitive!, looks like brick house, it is the size and weight of one, no real world range and full of fakeries and useless gadgets and a mass that shows itself in braking or transitions... is the the perfect car for mediocre drivers who want to impress ppl with fast accelerations from the lights(probably, that's what performance means to them anyway). A real driver knows his car must be lightweight and also appreciate the interaction between him and the control of his car, also enjoying the satisfaction of getting everything right on a proper road. This 2.5 tonne monstruosity isn't that, 2000% isn't that, no matter how many cheap powerfull electric motors stuff inside it. I'm guessing a big paycheck from Hyundai to Car.. as they are desperate to push this model as "the best ever". ffs, for anyone with reason, it is clear why should be a no go, especially at the huge huge price.. which is totaly unjustified by the HP number... as electric HPs are cheap and easy to obtain; basically, this is an over-priced, overweighted, overrated vehicle. Yeah, a real pearl of a sports-car. 🤦🏿‍♂️

@@CARmagazineTVno thx. I don't like SUVs sized vehicles... especially not as sports cars. edit. let me clarify: I don't say the work that has been done to this vehicle isn't impressive. I'm just saying it is useless. An SUV sized, 2.5 tonne vehicle isn't a sports car no matter how many thousand of engineering work hours has in it. In the end mass can't be hidden in disregard to trick dampers and huge wheels(we all saw this in the wet at Goodwood, for both Ioniq 5 and 6) If you want driver engagement, involvement and satisfaction, the best combo, now and going forward, will still be low weigh, rwd, manual; and it doesn't have to be crazy expensive and crazy HP like this vehicle is and has. I will be interested when this has 1500 kgs, it is the size of a i30 and costs 35k less. Also, they build this, as a driving enthusiast proposition when every car guy in the world aprreciated the i30 and i20 N models and toyota succeded with the gr86 and gry platforms. Hyundai sells enough EVs in order to afford a gr86 competitor, something along the line of the Pony concept. Instead they commited fully to 2.5-3 tonns SUVs as sports cars(and as cars in general...); what's the point in that?, how can an SUV be a halo car?, how can that happen when enthusiast drivers all around the world rediscovered the joy of driving rwd, manual cars?

Ive been so looking forward to the 5 N and it really doesn't disappoint. There is nothing I don't like about this car (maybe the price), There is more imagination in this one model than other manufacturers have in their entire line up - fantastic car, fantastic job by Hyundai. Also, kudos to the combo of James and the production values on this channel - some of the best car reviews I have seen.👌

Love that you notice and experience so much of the content that our awesomely talented engineers and designers have put their heart and soul into! Maybe , but I've seen AWD genesis cars with 3.3 TT with just a couple grand U.S. worth of tuning ( more boost , fuel , timing ) making 500 to the wheels and destroying fast cars to the shock of everybody , doing it without much fuss and over and over without breaking . The person with the Gen was going to move on to more tweaks and higher performing turbos. So , I don't think it would in fact be all that difficult if Hyundai wanted to produce something near that to do it . I think I ICE was the end all and be all they in fact probably would do something outrageous . It seems quite evident that Hyundai has taken advantage of the EV thing as its a more even race where everybody is starting at the same spot which is to say behind Tesla who has pole position . Koreans were playing catch up with ICE chasing old companies with experience and those companies are struggling somewhat and may not have put as much effort in . Hyundai apparently Is working to get a good start In this new race that is more even in regards to the older brands and betting more heavily . This car looks to show their commitment and capabilities . The good press from this will propel their name as serious in the race as NOBODY currently has anything like this or as cool as this in this particular niche of EVs and a good Halo car for the lesser variants that are already liked . Other MFGs struggle to move units . Anything that will actually sell makes Hyundai seen as a player and having success plus gives them a return or at least diesnt cost billions to give appearence they are trying like GM with its hummer that sells 25 a month despite massive cost to egineer being a complete failure and making GM broke and looking bad . Not much room for massive failures in this game if it is in fact going to be the major game or part of it . The Koreans seem to seeing this as a chance to even the playing field and going for it compared to others who were resisting it until forced . They were SMART to attack segment others haven't so they can post a win . They went full on so anybody besides Tesla who are busy on so many fronts would have to go super extra hard to try and beat them in this Niche which isn't as massive so not worth it really , strategically this move is BRILLIANT to get a win for Hyundai to build rep on as seriousnin the EV segment . Keep in mind Hyundai is now in 3rd overall behind Toyota and VAG who are both struggling in EV . I have always said that Hyundai was better then given credit for and on my second new one after first purchase in 2007 . Both have been excellent vehicles when the math of cost has been factored . In fact in that equation for me as good or better then anything I have owned or what I can tell others have owned . My current 2019 Elantra GT N LINE which is actually nothing to do with an Elantra and a re badged euro model called I30 that Americans were too stupid to buy so discontinued here I was able to purchase with incentives for 20K U.S. before the world was hit with the massive covid tax that caused inflation and disrupted everything . I opted for the MT car which came with Michelin PS4S tires and with Hyindai Hiring the top guy in the M Division of BMW away it handles EXCEPTIONAL for such a cheap car and despite a mere 200Hp the handling , ride and steering response make it WAY MORE then acceptable and if you actually enjoy and know how to drive you can do amazing things on twistys and mountain roads where I live that are EVERYWHERE AND ENDLESS and the 200Hp part does not get in the way of the fun and on real roads is more then you can use if you are actually serious about getting after it but not completely anti social and anti self . It does that and works wonderfully as transportation and a HATCHBACK which Americans do not fully embrace as idiots in that particular way . I am very happy , in fact Over the Moon I was smart enough ( saw It coming ) to buy one of the VERY LAST CHEAP USEABLE MANUAL TRANS HATCHES EVER BUILT before avg MSRP for ANYTHING WENT SKY HIGH as well as all the molestation in new and used car market . My car has only 11k and if I were to find one at that mileage it would cost 30k used now , cars with 50 , 60 + cost significantly more then what I paid new. I knew it was a great purchase yet others ignored it to the point Hyundai removed it from U.S. . NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON i have ever driven in the car has not been befuddled by it asking WTF is this anyway , holy shit it is on rail, HOW MUCH DID IT COST , and never fails . If I get the wee 1.6t near Power band in second , mash it to redline and power shift I can convince a passenger it is " fast " or quick . I have owned very fast cars so I know it's not fast and it's an illusion of quickness but at 0-60 in the 6s and a MT i can redline shift it often without going into hyperspace and it's actually a joy .particularly when I say I paid less then a high mileage used car not as good or fun and paid 20k which leaves people even more confused . Hyundai has been offering value for sometime if you were paying attention and picked the right car when they offered incentives which was like every quarter and anybody who ever paid even close to MSRP before covid didn't know the ACTAUL PRICING of a Hyundai which was SIGNIFICANTLY LESS then anything Japanese and quality wise excellent at that price . I would get laughed at in early 2000s when I said Hyindai was going places and under rated product . My friend bought one of the very first Hyundai to ever leave a boat to us shores and it was 6k $ and the worst piece of crap ever , but thats not the case anymore . They consistently get better and with that the prices do go up however . My 20k purchase was the dead nuts sweet spot .

Was that a U.S. model. I need to Google what his model was as the first in U.S. or one of the first . All I remember if memory serves was it was a 2 door hatch and the crank for windows fell off within a few days to a week in his hand and something fell apart or off every week . I do also recall that he drove a LOT in short time and did keep it running for 100k or more and with the initial stuff covered under warranty and perhaps multiple times and how quickly he roached it with miles and got new car he decided it was not a bad purchase and he still enjoyed that it was his first ever brand new car and was kind of fond of the little gutless misfit. To be fair he was a bit odd and not a car guy , the type of individual who 100% liked women and if you met him you would say If not an awful person , dude it's cool that your gay , I get you dont want to say so but SERIOUSLY i give a fuck, be yourself at least around me . Good dude VERY NEAT AND CLEAN SHITBOX OF A CAR WITH TISSUES IN IT that always smelled good ......HA HA ..... if i hadnt met some of his girlfriends who were affectionate , better looking then a straight goofy looking chubby guy going very bald young as he was normally pulls , and witnessed his lust and apparent game to overcome shit that would have stopped me in my tracks , i would never have believed him . Weird in a very good way and he did in fact I would say get the full money out of the car and laughed about it same as he did about having the gayest affect on a straight man ever and zero offense or defensiveness about anything at a time when it was not super easy to be openly gay / appear gay or drive a Hyundai let alone pull premium level young women that made me and all his built butch guy friends jealous . I was HORRIFIED to say it's cool BUT HE LAUGHED and said yeah i know , nobody believes me at first , confident MF , got promoted to be my boss despite newer at the job :) and such not a prick you couldn't feel bad. Anyway , that car and him picking me up for work all excited at his BRAND NEW 2ND day old car , me as guy who drove a 1967 manual Trans Cougar V8 and wanting to be happy for him or say something good was rough, IT WAS A MANUAL car so it had that , i remember thinking we if were in trouble get hit by a paper boy and insta dead if it's a school bus , short or not . I also remember him rowing gears and not seeming to go anywhere .

Beautiful review, earned a subscribe. I really want to try one of these. As a petrolhead with a rollcall of some pretty decent ICE stuff I’ve recently become a convert to the Tesla model 3 - on a lot of levels it’s just better than other cars I’ve owned. This appears to offer that driving experience plus, touch of a button RWD and and DCT. I’d still keep my Caterham but would love one of these along side it in the garage.

I can relate to that smile of him with mine as well, I am driving Hyundai kona, & no doubt I am in love with it. Initially I was skeptical about the safety, durability & practicality of ev, yes it’s a shift of technology that will be hard to accept initially, but after driving kona for almost 2 years about 36000KMS, all those myths r bursted. I know it’s not a comparison of kona & Ioniq, but it’s the engineering I can feel under that steering, hyundia came a long way with its precision, safety, yet not compromising the fun. I wish Hyundai releases ioniq 5 N in India.

A daft question that might seem blindingly obvious. This is a 600hp beast with 4WD _(641hp if you press that boost button!)._ So it has motors on front and rear axle. So that means each motor has 300hp. So... When the _N_ system is 50/50 for power, it has the full 600hp on tap. But if you put it fully into front or rear wheel drive, are you not reducing the cars power by half? That aside. It looks a damn nice car both inside and outside. Nice clean lines too. Almost harking back in looks to that gorgeous Lancia Delta Integrale of the 1980's 8-))... And it'll come in RHD too. Something that the Delta Integrale didn't do.

Coming from a manual last gen WRX, Im very curious to see how how this compares. I'm still very hesitant about the fake engagement stuff, but I guess that is the only way to make an EV feel engaged. Hopefully we can hold on to ICE enthusiast cars, but if we can't this is definitely a step in the right direction. The only things for me are weight (it being almost a 1000 lbs heavier than my car) and the exterior sound - I like rolling my windows down, downshifting to third and hearing the burbles, which this is still ultimately missing.

Can’t imagine having a more technically advanced vehicle and taking it to mechanics who seem to be only barely capable to perform an oil service. Forgot diagnosing a more difficult problems like the blind spot detection malfunctioning or my hvac system problem. First dealer I brought it to for hvac issue took 3 weeks to get it done. It made the exact same wheezing noise at shut off. They told me to take it and that they were going to call Hyundai and call me back. They never did call back and would not return my call. I could write about 2 more terrible experiences that included lost parts and joy rides too. No way would I ever buy another Hyundai! Good luck if you do.

I’m highly interested in this vehicle, even more than the upcoming 2025 refreshed Tesla Model Y Performance. However, dealer markups make purchasing one of these a tougher pill to swallow. One dealer in California asked for a $20k USD dealer markup over the $68k USD MSRP price. So $68k + roughly $10k~ (state sales tax + dealer delivery fee + registration fee) = $78k~ for the vehicle out the door, best case scenario (without markup); and then dealers wanting to tack on another $20k~ in dealer markups for this thing? That’s roughly $98k~ USD worst case scenario. Sure you can tell the sales person hell no, and walk away… and they’ll likely call you 5 minutes later trying to reduce that markup amount. But it goes to show that Tesla’s vehicle purchasing process is so much better cutting out these b.s. middleman tactics / fees. Hyundai (and other automakers) needs to help regulate these dealer mark ups, as the $68k~ price a lot of these reviewers are stating are NOT what the public will be spending on these N series EVs out the door. No way should any Hyundai should cost nearly $100k~. To put things into perspective, you can get a Tesla Model S Plaid vehicle for less than that; sure, not as exciting as this vehicle due to its unique driving nature, but that’s just insane.
