I own an i30 and is an amazing car, it´s not a corvette, it´s not made to break the speed of light. It´s a family car, very detailed interior with soft touch all arround. Great gas economy and enough power. And the exterior is BEAUTIFUL. Interior design is equally beautiful. Have more legroom and cargo area than a seat or a mazda. And what about the pricetag? If you want to buy one, go ask to someone who actually own the car as a daily driver. Sorry to tell you that The focus exterior design can´t match the design and lines on the i30. I give it 10/10.

Sorry, but this is the kind of review that gets the Fifth Gear team labelled out of touch (putting it politely!). How can you give an average rating to such a good looking car with an engine that does 74mpg, is super-reliable and doesn't suck?! C'mon guys. Ridiculous.

I completely agree with you my friend ! Yesterday I went with my father in a local Hyundai Company to check some of the cars that they are selling and Hyundai i30 really caught up my eye.... I entered the car to check the interior and it was simply amazing ! The gear shift knob is smooth , light and kind of small... Perfect for shifting gears easily ! The pedals are full metallic and easy to handle and the design of the steering wheel is round with nice looking leather.... The seats are very comfortable , also with nice leather and the car dashboard haves an amazing sport look... ( Direction System FLEX STEER (Normal/Sport/Comfort ) It also haves a nice touch screen so you can navigate to the settings , radio, navigator...etc. As for the exterior , the car looks really smooth and large , especially when you see it from a closer view... It looks like a Golf or a Focus and with a better price ! Did I mention the powerful engine that makes the car capable of travelling to longer distances ! The car is simply perfect and I really don't trust their review.. By seeing it closely I now understand why my father wants to buy me this car..

I understand why they rated the car as "average", because I now drive a Hyundai i30 (from the job), after my own previous cars were a Ford Focus mk I and a mk II, and a VW Jetta. What I can tell you is that this Hyundai is not giving you any sporty feeling whatsoever. The steering is indeed quite clumsy compared to the one in a new VW or a new Focus. The car looks good but it has a thin metal carapace - you would see this in the bonnnets' reinforcements (really thin metal sheets), or, by simply listening on how it sounds in the interior while on heavy raining conditions, not to mention the "bombardment" feeling while driving in iced rain once....it just sounds like driving a huge beans can, really ( I make a comparison with how I felt in the Focus, in similar conditions). The third disappointment is about the lights - frontal fog lamps and headlamps...I don't know who designed them, but they are really weak...I changed the light bulbs with something stronger and still, the light emitted makes it a nightmare for me to drive at night - Maybe it's just me, but in bad weather conditions is that moment when you see the worst of it. Ford's lamps in this case were much, much better. On the good side, you have "good looks", plenty of options for even the standard, basic models, better price and a good quality interior. The engine is economical, specially on long runs. So, the car "does what it should" without anything special...just a car, nothing more. About the cornering, the hyundai is simply not entertaining; this is because of the sensation of lag in response, comparing to a focus in the same situation. The car gets you where you want, but with a feeling of "lack of precision" when it comes to the rapidity of the response to the driver's command There is no "fun to drive" as it is in a Focus or a VW Golf... For me, the aspect of the car means second to none if the vehicle does not behave as I want it to and does not offer what I want and need from it. So, the i30 is good looking and still mediocre, comparing it to her rivals, in terms of steering response and precision or sportivity. In my opinion, these guys were right about the car...it deserves a mediocre seven, or, hardly an eight. My own marking, because of the headlights is a 6.5 - not meaning that it is a bad car, but meaning I would not choose it for my self or, had I already bought it, I would sell it just before the warranty expires.

Burakhan BALADAN all I'm gonna say is 5 year warranty - if the manufacturer didn't feel confident in their car they wouldn't offer it for fear of the cost. So VW and Ford can stick that in their tail pipes. And honestly this is a beautiful car, with a great interior, far better than anything else out there afaik, and I have spent a year looking for a new car and the i30 is what I'm picking up next week.

I've had one of these as a loan car today and I'm seriously impressed. Can't fault it in any area, would make a fantastic family car. A genuine alternative to an Astra, Focus, Pulsar, Golf etc. I would seriously consider buying one next time, and would certainly feel very proud to park it in my 'front drive'. Well done Hyundai, it's a very fine car indeed.

...put it this way; if the i30 is a car that the next door neighbours wouldn't even notice then by the same token the VW Golf must seem like a totally invisible car because of all the hatch backs on sale today the Golf has, by a country mile, the least design flair to be found on any car in the segment! This car is a good distinctively designed car and with Hyundai (and sister company Kia) making such massive strides in their design and quality it won't be long before they are the ones other cars will be compared against.

I just took delivery of a new i30 diesel with dual clutch auto in Australia. I drove the Mazda 3 and Corolla, and honestly liked the i30 the most. Diesel cars are quite rare in Australia and the Corolla isn't even available in diesel. The 3 is, but you have to buy the top model which is very expensive. Golf does a diesel but again, in Australia you need to take the model with leather seats and loads of extras. There is no base model like the i30 for someone who wants the economy and torque of a diesel without spending big on safety packs and leather seats. Loving the i30.

  • @kane0387

Totally Agree! purchased a base i30 here in oz also. 1.8 goes extremely hard for such a little engine, is well equipped for a base model car (reverse camera, cruise, eco mode) etc. 6 speed auto is fantastic. all she needs is tinting and wheels. Corolla is too expensive (about $24k from memory) for a engine which has less power and substandard warranty. 5 years/unlimited should pretty much be the standard warranty wise. pretty annoyed when you are gonna shell money out on a ford, VW, Toyota or holden; and you get 3 years. not too mention the fiesta has more problems with their DSG than VW. Cruze is a piece of crap with way too many recalls etc. I knew the sort of car I wanted and made sure I made the correct choice by looking at the facts.

Well this review is absolutely ridiculous ! I personally went to a local Hyundai Company and tested the car... It is amazing to see that Hyundai is changing to something better ! The Hyundai i30 is a good looking car with awesome interior and exterior , perfect for a family or for young adults who want to impress and get a personal taste of what the car is capable of... You can even compare it with a Golf or with a Focus if you like ! I believe this car would win the contest and for that I am giving it a 8/10 ! As a young driver I want to test it more but my first impressions are really positive ! A cheap but a good car that emits less CO2.. Definitely recommended for all of you young fellas out there !

Hyundai don't spend enough money on advertising in the motoring mags. That's why they're slagged off a lot. As for making cars costing less: it ain't rocket science: build your car in a country with comparatively low costs, such as Korea or the Czech Republic. Simples! As for the VW Golf: it's almost as rare and well-styled as a kerbstone. And Fords are beneath contempt.

Can this really be called a serious review of the Hyundai i30 ? I rather think no not really. Seems to be more of making a joke out of the Hyundai i30 instead of being really detailed on it dont get me wrong i am not against criticising but look at it as what it is it's a family car wich does it's job pretty well maybe some of you testers lost ground whiles mostley just testing exotic cars like Aston Martin,Lamborghini,Ferraris and so on, seems out of you 4 only Tiff is the one how's not negatively poled and narrow-minded like the rest of the testers look and test the car what it's made for it's a nice car and has a pretty nice styling simply a familiy car. BTW: I really looks far better then a Golf or Focus.

Ok this review was absolutely ridiculous. Looks better that the focus or the golf, interiors are of good quality and they look good too also the controls on the dash are easy to use and practical. Its as fast as the Focus, emits less CO2, is more efficient than the focus and is about 800 quids cheaper too...Has drive modes which alters the steering feel. But still 2 people give it a 5 out of 10... why...just because its a Hyundai... oh cmon.. its a really nice car md deserves a minimum 8 out of 10 on avg.

they didn't even try a slalom, this is the problem with all their current cars except the pricey rear wheel drive, recent study in Sweden demonstrated a quick avoidance steering move switches off the steering entirely, Further the car tends to follow changes in bad road surface and swerves back and forth following them.

Had a 2014 Ford Focus that I purchased new. I owned it for less than 3 months and put 5000 miles on it. It was such a piece of rubbish! I had all the door gaps aligned (doors would stick), front fender aligned, rear seat replaced, front passenger seat cover replaced, glove box door replaced twice, rear quarter window re-installed (new moldings inside and out around the window), both headlights were peeling (some thick coating on them that was clear), battery cover was missing, suspension made a loud clanking noise and the DCT slipped, made grinding noises and reacted very badly in stop and go traffic. Now I have an Elantra GT (i30) and the quality difference is so great that I find myself questioning how anyone could ever consider buying a Focus. I may be from the states but I am embarrassed that we produce a vehicle with such little care and attention to detail.

People think these Hyundais are great because of what Hyundai's used to be like, and the new ones are by no means bad cars at all, but I drove one the other day on a 30 mile trip and it was something of nothing. Very bland, reminded me of how Toyotas were through the 90's. Hyundai have gone from being cheap and cheerful, to actually very expensive, so it if fair that people expect a lot more from them. Car prices change all the time but this i30 was at one point more expensive than a Volkswagen golf, and the golf is going to hold its value more and it better quality in all aspects, I have one.

@@betsyduane3461 fucking amazing comment about reliability coming from an American. anyway, we DO have the numbers for what you would get on a "highway," as well as in a "city," but the combined cycle is designed to represent both. people here often commute using a mix of the two - you don't park your car on the highway, do you? the number is meant to be more representative of what people can actually expect to see. then, if you're someone that drives almost exclusively in cities and traffic (as I do, for example), you know that your economy will be far closer to the "urban" figure (as my car is) also, UK bias is relevant here. this is literally a UK motoring show using UK figures for UK audiences. No, they're comparing it to the £800 dearer Ford (as is clear in the video if you, you know, watch it) which is better in every department they complain about

Ive driven both cars, the 208 is more exciting on the country raods as you can really throw it into the bends with confidence, but my problem with french cars is there not very reliable so i bought the i30 desiel and Ive now had it 9 months and not a thing has gone wrong with it, managed to do 400 miles on half a tank and that was up and down hills doing 70mph on a long motorway journey

Cosmo 2000 400 on half a tank? thats impressive. I've still not made my decision. I had a test on the 208 and enjoyed putting the foot down around the bends, still need a try of the i30. Depending on the test drives it might just come down to the better deal. Thanks for your reply.

no probs, only draw back with the i30 it doesnt give you as much confidence in the bends as the 208 is more fun and its funny cos i hired a corsa 1.4 petrol 100bhp and it was rubbish its too heavy and you really have to thrash it where as the 208 has 95 bhp i think in the 1.4 petrol, it was way better and faster, i have the 1.6 crdi i30 with 110bhp and the power is very good, always there when you put you foot down :-) it depends what you want it for really, if you mainly do motorway id get the i30 deisel, but on the back roads get the 208, not sure what the 208 is for reliability as my mate had the 207 and had nothing but problems and he had the 1.6 petrol 120bhp hope this helps :-)

To be honest it depends what country you're in. In the UK the car's pronounced 'hi-yun-die' by everyone including in the commercials. But why get hung on the pronunciation? Hey if you like to 'comment' check out our new show: DCG1: torque cars episode 1

The heck, Ford Focus looks better? I get the irrational love british people have for Ford products, but come on...this car is bold in style and looks quite nice. The steering is indeed a bit meh, I tried it and I really didn't like it. I think that my 2001 VW Bora has much better steering feel than this i30. But in any case, this car has great pricing, looks good, it is built better than whatever Ford and it doesn't deserve a 5...

Spot on review. I looked at this car in the show room and was reasonably impressed, but then i went to Seat and looked at a leon, better, then ford and the focus - better, the alfa romeo and the - giulietta better. all in the same price range. You can bitch and moan about the review all you want. it doesn't change the fact that this is not a nice looking car, it's overpriced for a Hyundai. And this is the problem. it's a Hyundai.... with prices that reflect a better car. Just need to be cheaper and it would be a tempting prospect. But when you can get a much better car for the same money.... you would have to be a bit stupid to buy an i30.

Before this group of silly, mindless, unprofessional, so called, reviewers, decides to review anything, they should know that rating a car @ 5 on a 1 through 10 scale, has no "credibility" if the reviewers are themselves rated @ zero ......!

Your team review on the i30 is so out of touch with reality. Put it alongside with (this is the world now hence www) not just a mid size Island run by a man who gets his mum to cut his hair and is about to do Europe its biggest favour with brexit (bless him) the effect of which will put this cold windy set of islands with roads narrower than bicycle tracks and nearly all its houses glued together many without 20th century not to mention 21st century driveways, carport and garages. So in the big world Toyota Corolla outsells the Ford Focus about 3 to 1. Toyota has already admitted it's biggest threat is Hyundai and yet builds masses of vanilla bowling green Corollas which are BORING. Okay credit to Focus that it is a more driver focused car than i30 or Mazda 3 and Golf which the www tells me are the top 5 in class in first world countries. Hyundai i30 version 1 was a plain Jane but extremely reliable car. Version 2 team tested here is a quantum leap forward in design over v1 and no doubt will stand the test of time in reliability. V3 released in 2017ish was almost retro design-wise looking more like v1. Mean while Golf 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 are clonelike just getting fatter and more tech savvy but with the world's 2nd most crappy dual clutch . . .lawsuits will prove the Focus outright winner. Toyota having moved to CVT which is so much cheaper to produce than say a 6 speed torque converter box but whines like a Kymco scooter. Worse still upgrading from a manual to a CVT costs just $1000 most brands but double on a Toyota. I believe your subjective criticism of the i30 to be biased and unfounded when compared visually to its peers. You make totally ugly SUVS like land rover which is near identical to the WWII version, Range rover etc. Please take the emphasis of subjectivity based points out of the equation and stick to important things like performance, economy, Warranty, space utilisation, aerodynamic drag, servicing costs, how well executed the vehicle is for its intended purpose and market be what you judge.

So many haters of this vid in total denial... after they've just bought the i30 haha... Time for a reality check guys! You'll only get the Hyundai because you don't really know cars or you don't have enough to get a BMW. I test drove one, it's a literally just a engine connected to 4 wheels.. and a steering to turn the wheels. Nothing speaks to each other. Ride quality makes me dizzy and want to puke... If getting from A to B on a budget is what you want, there's nothing we can say =)
