After installing the Boomba BOV on mine last week (in 114* heat of the garage here in AZ, would not recommend) I'm wondering if I really wanna deal with another impossible bolt like the 2 on the BOV. It seems like Hyundai went out of their way to but the bolts in the most ridiculous places for parts people were surely going to modify. That being said, is this unit compatible with a BOV? The tubing that goes to the stock BOV had to be removed and they gave a plug to block the port on the other end of the hose by the intake tubing.

  • @n-power-automotive

I know right? I was thinking the same thing as I looked at the coolant line. There is plenty of room where they could have curved the hardline around the bolt, but instead it runs down right in front of it. Very annoying. The intake is compatible with a BOV. You just put a plug over the outlet on the intake where the hose normally runs to.

I get the idea a closed box is better for cooler air, but it’s been tested and once the car starts moving the AITs are no different between an open and closed intake. The only time it might be an issue is if you’re sitting still idling for a while, but again, once the car is moving air through the engine bay there is no advantage to a closed box.

There’s a law that prevents dealerships from voiding warranties unless they can prove the modification is the cause of the problem, but some dealers don’t care and will push it and who wants to hire a lawyer, right? So it does really depend on the dealership. If you’re scared they will, you can always take it off before bringing it in for a warranty repair.

That hot air intake reduces power.

Not entirely true. There’s been testing and when the car is moving there’s no difference in air intake temperature between an open intake vs a closed box. Now, sitting still for a long time idling yeah there’ll probably be more heat soak, but probably still not enough to really feel a difference.

@n-power-automotive not only that you're still intercooled so that will reduce temps anyway

Watch my other more recent video and you’ll see why that’s not really true.
