Husqvarna TE250i and TE150i Enduro review from KNOX
Husqvarna TE250i vs TE150i back to back review from KNOX
A couple of months ago, we were lucky enough to get hold of the Husqvarna TE250i and Husqvarna TE150i Enduro bikes and spent some time tackling some of the trails we have up here in the English Lake District.
Knox is not a solely Enduro/Motocross brand and there are channels out there that may give a more technical and expert opinion. Enduro is a sector that Knox would like to get more involved with and hopefully there is more to come on this. However, that didn’t stop us having loads of fun and giving the hardest Legal trails we have in the Lake District a good go, and we had a great time!
The Husqvarna TE150i and TE250i are incredible Enduro bikes and are essentially the right tools for the job if you are looking to do anything like this. Super lightweight, super tough with tractable and powerful fuel injected 2-stroke engines; it is hard to believe the amount of terrain that can be tackled on these bikes.
In terms of the TE150i vs TE250i, in an off-road setting and for us mere mortals, there probably isn’t too much performance difference in our opinion. Based on the terrain we were rode, it would be more down to rider ability. However, on the road, the TE150i is pretty hard work when cruising at 50-60mph, so that is a consideration if you have a commute to your nearest trails. In our case, that would mean that we would most likely go for the TE250i based on the commute, longer gearing and lazier torque available.
All in all, these are incredible Enduro bikes and based on our time with the bikes, we were mightily impressed at the Enduro performance on offer.

Hope you enjoyed our review of the Husqvarna TE250i and TE150i. They are truly brilliant enduro bikes! People buy these bikes for a wide range of applications, competition, hare and hound, trail riding, hard enduro... We used them in purely a trail riding setting and therefore our comments about on road practicality and security were based on trail riding in the UK and the practical issues that throws up and not based on the other aforementioned settings. Many thanks, Aaron KNOX.

To answer your question about leaving the bikes without a key, what i do is just pull of the spark plug lead if i'm going to leave it for a long period of time.

I am having such a hard time choosing between these two bikes. I have been racing 250XCs lately, came from a 300XCW before that. I had a 2018 TE150 for a while and it was used as a backup bike for trail riding with buddies and it was such a blast. For some reason I never thought of it as a race bike but the more I learn these 150s would be epic race bikes and would help conserve energy. The lack of bottom end will suck in the mud races though.

Finally, a video where someone reviews the bikes well that is not a professional rider or a doofus head. Just a regular, slightly above average rider talking about what he thinks about the bikes. Nice video.

Great review Aaron. A couple of points for prospective customer/owners to consider though, these are essentially competition machines with engine tolerances that reflect this, my dealer asks how the machine will be used and does fit indicators, working horn etc before delivery, however the security issue remains as you point out. A more practical bike for green lane type forays and more road friendly in general might be the Honda CRF 250 RL?, not a overly powerful bike, but would require less stringent servicing and be more comfortable. Regards Simon.

Thanks Simon, appreciate your feedback! Totally agree, perhaps we are coming from a slightly different angle with it and now honestly, we bought our own pure Enduro bike (actually a WR250f)... and its still a nightmare practical wise, no reg plate holder, no horn, no indicators, no security... however, they are still awesome and outperform anything else more road biased, so we did it anyway. Thanks, Aaron KNOX.

Hi Adam, to be honest they are quite similar in size and weight and to be fair you can still get in trouble with the 150cc, its still pretty fast. I have seen however, that you can get a throttle limit piece to add into the throttle. This should limit the amount of throttle opening and reduce the power for you... might be a good option? 🤷‍♂️ Aaron Knox

Knox Armour believe it or not I’ve just gone and bought the te 300i. Wanted the extra torque and less aggression. I’ll let you know how it gos ha ha. Wanted the power for the road riding and not to allways be in the power band also. For what I do I got recommended that machine over the 150. Proof is in the pudding so I’ll give it a go. Wish me luck and thanks for replying

I’m a total newbie. Doing my bike licence. I’m intending to get the TE150. I’m looking at buying a van so I can drive to the trails in Wales etc (4 hours drive!j). Appreciate I’ll have to drive on road between trails to fill a day but hoping it’s not mega road miles at a time, say 5-8 miles max between trails in an area? I note the video remarked about 150 being shit on road but then I’m intending to limit my on road time as much as poss. Would look into hare and hounds racing after a bit of practicing! Im not fussed on lack of security aspects as I’ll be using this for trails, experience days etc. well that’s the plan. The comments about it being dire on road are a concern as I will surely have to do a few miles between trails in U.K., although i don’t want to ride it on road for choice, for fun etc or commuting, purely to get between lanes on days out trail riding.

Good review. But you lost me when started talking about "road-ability". Lights, blinkers, and "where's the keys?". Haha. These are not dual sports. That's what the FE and EXC-f bikes are for. That's not to say some people don't plate them by adding these things aftermarket - but that's not what they're intended for nor marketed for. Manufacturers want to keep cost and weight down as much as possible.

Yes, for real and yes do quite a bit actually... but in fairness we were quite new when we did the review and we did say that in the review. Security is a real issue on these bikes and since we have bought our own wr250f Enduro bike and security is an issue on that too... literally someone can just ride off with your bike while you are paying for fuel!

I hope ktm/husky do not listen to your review and go ruin a trail bike by adding road legal kits. If you want that on your own bike then customize it yourself. Or, buy one of their models that are designed for that purpose, because in case you didn’t know, they do make models with keys, mirrors, and blinkers! Leave these alone.!!!

  • @KnoxArmour

At the end of the day, if you are using the bike like we did, trail riding and not pure competition, these bits are a consideration. In the UK they don't sell them with keys or indicators. We now have our own wr250f and same thing applies and security is an issue. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
