I am so sorry you had to go through this! I was just in Southport last week and went right past your marina while out on a boat ride and couldn’t believe the devastation I saw when pictures and videos started getting posted. I’m glad you, your pup and your home made it out safely.

I met a man, that missed his ride out of town, when hurricane, Opal, hit, Destin, Fl. He chained himself to a tree, and rode out the storm. It gets better, always... Life, if you survive, gives you lessons, to teach... Much Love...

I'm so sorry you had to "beg" for shelter. We experienced the same thing with Hurricane Irma. We stayed because we wouldn't take out kitty. We hunkered down and ended up with the neighbors kitty, they left and didn't take her, and held our neighbors with their dogs. It's difficult funding shelter with pets but you did great in staying with your furbaby.

I feel guilty hitting the like button.... you and fluffy butt are safe and that is the most important part.... get the boat situated on the trailer, get her fixed and scout out a new safe place (maybe someplace on the Chesapeake Bay)... we're here for you....Tim and Cat

Sorry to hear you’re moving on. I just discovered your previous video about life in SPT. My wife and I bought a home there last July. I think we were all surprised by this storm. Safe travels Marisa.

I've always liked living on a lake. Not always safe but much safer than on the coast.

My family has lived on OKI since the early 50's. Unfortunately our beautiful little island is smack dab in the middle of "Hurricane Alley". Thankful you are safe, that storm took us by surprise. If you need anything, reach out. We as a community stick together.

As a single mom who lives in the country away from everyone, I totally get the feeling of helpless woman alone at times. Sometimes it really gets to you and it can be scary. God takes care of those who love Him don't forget that

You need better friends, sorry. However, although you were alone and afraid, you did very well on your own. You earned your second stripe, I'm proud of you for riding out the storm. Next time you won't be as afraid and you'll be better prepared. I just bought a 35' houseboat here in Florida so I'm already trying to get mentally prepared for up coming hurricane season.

Life will always throw you curveballs I learned that while living on my boat in Chincoteague Virginia a few years back but the attitude you have is wonderful the way you care for people And your community is amazing just keep that drive enjoy your adventures and keep moving forward and you’ll always find happiness in your life no matter where you go I found that out from moving from my family to Chincoteague back to my family now to Gettysburg PA and everywhere I’ve gone I’ve managed to find happiness as long as I keep caring for others and being true and you’ll be just fine as well best wishes in your inspire a lot of us out here just wanted to let you know

I’m a year late on this video. But my area didn’t think the the storm was going to be anything either. We had TS watches/warnings. Even I kept saying, “It’s a tropical storm who cares?” Then news broke about a kid I went to high school with. He must’ve gone out surfing/swimming despite having warnings stating the water was rough and not to. He unfortunately drowned at 21. Since then I take any TS/Hurricane warming seriously.

When you’ve been through so many storms it’s easy to brush them off, I did the same thing! But yea, now we know it’s better to be safe than sorry! That’s so sad about the young guy. 💔

You have such a positive outlook in a negative world, we all know you'll come back stronger, maybe from a different location. Most people would never attempt some of the things you've done in life and thanks for letting us experience some of them with you. We know you well enough to be sure you can handle this. Best wishes. I was thinking about you as I watched the storm. Sorry you had to go through that but thankful it was not worse it definitely could have been. Glad you decided to make the move we are definitely not done this year. Hope the motor is ok and you get settled in a new spot. You will figure it all out all part or the adventure.

Just wanted to tell you we have a house on oak island. Anytime you want to come visit your more then welcome to come park at our dock. We’ve got some major house damage so we won’t be back for awhile

So glad you’re ok. I live in Greenville NC and we got hammered hard. I awoke at 0330 to no power and wind blowing so hard that I knew it was a hurricane, not a tropical storm. We had trees falling over in my neighborhood and one landed on a transformer, causing it to literally explode like a bomb. I was one of 850 people who lost power for 11 hours. You made some really wise decisions to keep yourself and Kenai safe.

Glad you're okay and I'm glad you made the choice not to stay on the boat pontoons ain't made for that type water and that situation I'm just glad you're okay

I am very sorry for this tough try the life gave to you. I hope you know that you have became a great inspiration for so many people and i am sure there is still so much to come and every adventure, every lesson is just a great example that you are a fighter and you DO, not as most of the people that just don't. I do although say one thing: i am actually shocked that noone put attention to the situation where your friends did not let you in the house because of the dog... I mean this just got me so upset ! I hope that with you great positivity you have you still did make some 'cleaning' in friendships... Marissa, I’m sorry that this chapter of your life came to an end early. But was SO glad to see you, Kenai, and your boat live to see another day. I met you a few weeks ago in Duck and though it was a short interaction, you gave off such a friendly and easy-going aura. We had a chance to stay in Oak Island for a week last year and I fell in love with the place. I don’t think we visited the Marina while we were there. I’m so sorry you are having to leave such a wonderful small quiet place but you will be dealing with more storms most likely during the H Season so I believe, although really tough, you are making the smartest decision. Houseboat Girl Hey girl, wherever you are tonight, be safe and hope you find the perfect place for you and your best friend.

I have lived on my Houseboat through 4 Hurricanes. 1st, Rule is NEVER listen to others. Rule 2, Always prepare your Vessel for the worse since as a Cat. 4 Hurricane. People may think your over doing it, but so what. 3rd Tie down Bow & Stern away from Dock to allow clearance to prevent damage. I have a list of things to be done and looked at. Want a copy of the list, let me know and you will feel safer with your vessel.

Wow, My heart goes out to you. What seems like a tragedy at the time usually ends up being a blessing. We never know what the Lord has in store for us. One thing we do know is that what He does is for good. Your a strong young woman and you will look back on this experience with a laugh and leave with a good bit of wisdom. Have fun, enjoy life! Love that you have a Shanty Boat .. I have a 16x30 quad toon about to drop in my lake property .. do you like the sea better then lakes?

Sorry for the damage and upset but somehow God will work this out for your good. Keep yourself and for dog safe. You will make it just fine. You are tougher than nails or you would have never started this adventure in the first place and you would not have made it this far. Keep your head up and be encouraged and keep pressing on and you will come out on top.

Oh wow that's crazy. Glad you're ok. I've been looking into boats in Florida. Cant imagine living through a hurricane. A couple questions though. Are house boats difficult to maneuver? Do you have simple mechanical skills? I imagine it comes in handy often if so.

Hi! Thanks! Florida would be great to live on a houseboat, do it! I'm sure they're all different, but yes, it is a bit awkward and hard to maneuver. Nothing you can't get used to! Boat life is all about learning as you go, none of us know everything, you just have to go for it!

The motor is being looked at as we speak, it's definitely damaged, but I might just buy a used one to replace it, it'll probably be cheaper than trying to fix it if it's completely shot!
