Hummingbird Baby's First Two Weeks in the Nest TIMELAPSE

We were able to set up a new Allen's Hummingbird nest cam. Our mama hummingbird built her nest on an Umbrella Plant and our community named her Raindrop.
We joined her incubation process on the 14th day after she laid her second egg. She kept busy adding nesting material and protecting her eggs from the high winds.
Then on the afternoon of the 15th day we noticed that there was a crack on one of the eggs. We were so happy to witness this miracle.
Raindrop fed her first hatchling and we waited for the second egg to hatch.
One day passed, two days…., and three days passed and the second egg hadn’t hatched. Usually an egg will hatch within 18 days. When an egg doesn’t hatch, either it was not fertilized to begin with or there is a developmental problem within the egg.
Our community named the baby Dewdrop. Let's watch the time-lapse of Dewdrop's first two weeks in the nest.

This is an Allen's Hummingbird which normally breeds on the West coast of the United States and Mexico, although the bird has been spotted in other areas of the southern United States.
❓When did the mother hummingbird laid her eggs?
The first egg was laid on April 9 and the second on April 12.
❓How long do hummingbirds incubate their eggs?
Hummingbirds incubate the eggs for 15 to 18 days.
❓How many clutches do hummingbirds have?
Hummingbirds in Southern California usually have two to three clutches each season.
❓When do baby hummingbirds open their eyes?
It usually takes more than a week for a baby’s eyes to open. On average, a newborn’s eyes are open 9 days after he has hatched.
❓What is the nest made from?
The nest is made from grasses and small twigs filled in with soft and fluffy fiber that the mother hummingbird finds on fuzzy plants like seed pods, dandelion down, cottonwood and the like. The nest is held together with spider silk and is soft and spongy to accommodate the rapidly increasing size of the baby birds. To camouflage the nest she put paint chips on the outside to try to blend in with the house.

Always been fascinated by how much of Mama's beak goes down the baby's gullet to deliver the food. Just jams and wiggles her beak about until it literally disappears into the baby. A skewering of sorts lol!

I always thought that all those photographs, along with the hardships you had to endure to obtain them would be forthcoming. On this particular nest we are using a Reolink security camera.
Momma beak goes so deep into baby throat…….
Some birds remove the poo sacs far from the nest to deter predators… do hummingbirds not need this that this nest shows no sac removals?

Not done with hummingbirds. The poo is only a tiny speck and dries quickly.
