Mourning Dove and Mate Hatch Eggs

Ғылым және технология

I came across this momma Mourning Dove and her two eggs, while pruning my spruce trees. My brother set up his camera to "motion" capture this, (in other words, it recorded only when there was movement). so we could record for days at a time, without running out of memory. We recorded for 8 days before the eggs hatched. But this momma didn't do all the work alone!

Awesome!! We had a mourning dove nest in the rafter of our covered porch, in northern Virginia. I unfortunately didn't see the nest until it was built, but for a month this patient mama (we only saw the papa once) sat stock still. Then we saw the little chicks. And only a week or two later all had flown the nest! We still saw the chicks around our house, a day later!

Next morning, the nest was still intact with the momma dove still sitting on her clutch. She raised two more broods after that one!

I'm a delivery driver who covers a radius of 140 miles from my work shop on any given day of the week. A pair of doves have decided to nest on my truck for the past 3 1/2 weeks. I drive on 70 mph interstate as well as 55 mph St. highway and city streets, from 5:00 AM to 4: 00PM. This bird will not leave its nest till I return to my shop, at witch point the mate takes over the the nest so the other can do it's business.I 've been trying to do my best not to disrupt the nest, I just wish they would finish the job and move on.

I try my hardest not to look at them when I leave the door so they feel safe. I’m excited to see the babies hatch.

What an excellent video, great work! Very hard work for you too, to film this lovely pair! These are great parents, and mom is a good housekeeper, getting rid of eggshells! Those chicks are so cute. And the relationship is wonderful. I have a large flat box birdfeeder. This morning I found a dove egg laying on top of feeder. I have 3 mated pairs of M Doves coming daily but momma could not be seen. I have the egg inside warmed up on a water bottle and wondering what to do. I need expert advice - anyone please? I cannot leave that egg on the feeder as other birds come there and will damage it. I need to build a dove nest asap! I think I will go get a peat moss filled hanging planter. That should do it.

Your videos are so cool! I subscribed because I really like how your videos are related to nature. I especially like this one because I have a mourning dove nesting in a tree in my backyard right now.

Aww how cute! I now have two doves living above my front door porch and they so cute making coo sounds already raised 2 chicks this early season and they got big and flew off. I miss them already. But they are back and think they maybe are nesting two more eggs not sure yet I don't dare disturb them. I'm afraid they may fly off and not return, and if they already have eggs up there I don't want them to abandon them and they die.

I have 2 birds nesting on my satellite dish in back garden. Today i found a broken white egg underneath. I'm not entirely sure if there is beginnings of a life in there, or the egg has hatched. It's possible mum or dad might of accidentally knocked it out of the small nest it's in, flying in and out.I'm hoping it's the latter as it wouldn't survive on it's own in this cold weather and i was unable to relocate it back as too high for me. I've placed the egg on top of the hedge and keeping my fingers crossed for the mum and dad to successfully hatch any left . Goodluck little fledgling's!!🙏

Mourning dove is one of my favourite. We had flocks and flocks numbering hundreds back in the village. Killing a pair of it with catapult or air gun for food was how it used to be and the numbers were only growing because of the size of the flocks. people got greedy and started net trapping them in hundreds and poisonig their feeding ground to catch hundreds at a go so now we can barely see pair of it flying around.
