Man you made that look so easy! I'm going to try it at home and F it up! 👍
good job and honest. because some other mechanics will charge 2 or 3 hours job. like robbery. Thank you for nice video bud.
great help. Do you have torque the nuts?
Good video. Straight to the point.
I;M DOWN LOADING THIS VIDEO THIS IS GOOD STUFF
2008 Hummer H3 - 36mm too loose had to go to a 35mm socket (Correct snug fit ). You would have to remove the surface rust from the nut and gently tap it in.
35mm socket may fit if worn or stretched(or with a sledgehammer), but the actual size in my H3 is 36mm(as a metric standard), and preferably a long socket, as the axle head bottoms inside the shallow socket and may slip.
What wrench are you using. I just did this and had a heck of a time getting those bolts loose. thanks for the video it is great.

15mm they are on tight because they come from the factory with thread locker but those wrenches are extra long for more leverage but dont worry i have yet to see one of them break
Love the video, thanks for posting
Good job! I know it's hard to work on something and film it

You help me a lot with your video man !!!!! Let see if I can do it to !!!!!
After the hub was removed, could the axle be pulled as well? Going to replace both hubs on my 06 H3 and the CV axles need replaced as well.

some hub assemblies when removed the axle will fit the hole but not always only one way to find out tho but im pretty sure you will have to pop the top ball joint and the tie rod end and bring it out the side
Good job. Thank you very much
Thank you for this!!!
Okay so I agree and disagree with some of the comments here. It has been my experience that while some torque specs are in fact obsolete others matter. In the case of bearings torque spec is very important “ most home don’t have a torque wrench “ if you don’t have the correct tools then you probably shouldn’t be doing the job.. torque on a bearing has a variance based on end play.. so say the beginning range is 150ftlbs and ends with 176ftlbs you should start at the least torque and then check the end play .02-.05 should be the acceptable range. But with the H3 not having a castle nut or a smash nut this takes out the worry of end play of the bearing so yes while the gun he is using is set to somewhere between 1-4 he did do the job correctly, but should have told the correct specs while making the video.. I’m a mechanic by trade and not ASE certified. I work in the trucking industry. All my knowledge has been passed down thru the ages.. no pedigrees needed..😂

They ABSOLUTELY matter, millions of dollars are spent on the details of bolt size, grade of bolts and torque required. That hub bearing is what YOU are staking your life on, sir.
Have two cameras on tripods so you get different angles to edit.
So what are the torque specs? Specifically on the three 15mm bolts, and the 35mm axle nut? I have to do this this weekend...
@uglyhp8225

the hub to the spindal is 133 ft lbs and the axle nut is 173 ft lbs
Thank You
is it doable to install locking hubs there?
Thanks for the video. I just had the dealership call me and tell me that my right front hub is loose so this allowed me to actually see the job that is about to cost me $608.14.

is 35mm the right size for the axle nut? I tried googling and everyone seems to say its 36mm.

ugly HP thanks. I need to change the bearing on my wife's h3 so ended up ordering both sizes over the weekend so it gets here on time. I'll just return the other one. Do you suppose I really need the torque wrench for this or can I just muscle them on like I usually do with everything else?
Do you use the same axle nut or do you have to get a new one?

beat a prybar in between it and the spindal or if you can access it from behind beat it outward sometimes i have to fight them and it can use up some time
How can you tell if you have a bad hub? Or a bearing? When driving my h3 I feel a vibration when turning on the freeway to the left, but not to the right.. I thought it was just my big stupid tires, but I am not sure. Anyone elaborate for me?
@uglyhp8225

you will get a loud hum but also if you lift the vehicle up you get play in the wheel side to side and up and down if you only get side to side and no up and down you have play in the steering if you have up and down and no side to side then you have bad ball joints
What was that tool you used to push the axel out

why were you changing these? I have a h3 with a thumping noise. got brand new tires, and breaks. checked for play in bearings and bushings but was none. mayb going bad but not to the point of being able to move unless driving?
@uglyhp8225

we changed it because it made a humming noise when we was driving down the road if it best was to find weird noises like that is to get someone to bounce on the bumper while another person is pin pointing under the vehicle

+ugly HP I guess it could be considered a humming noise. there's a video of the noise here on KZread but no definitive answers on the post. I found a pair of bearings reasonably priced they'll be here today going to swap them out and hope this fixes it. thanks for the response and the video tutorial :)

Lucky guy
I’m with on not wasting time “torquing to spec” all that. You can feel where 15mm’s need to be. And the hub needs to be really tight. Anyway. I would say to throw some antiseize or moly on the axle splines and where the hub sits in the knuckle. FYI someone quoted my mother in law $1,000 to do this job lol. I’m just here for the tool list. I think the fact you just replaced the axle, and that made it slide on and off really easy is a bit miss leading vs what people are gonna find. I’m in Florida, so I don’t expect issues without snow here.

ha im ase 1st off and second if you work around anyone ase thats a veteran even they only torque the important stuff you gotta remeber toque specs are like laws there just guidlines everyone breaks the law everyday there just small laws but the more serious laws like murder you dont break same with torque specs theres a torque spec for every nut and bolt on a car but you dont see a mechanic using a torque wrench on every single nut and bolt just the important ones so if i wasnt sure my gun wasnt close to spot on since it is a sealed bearing maybe a different route would have been used but thanks for the dumbass comment it has made my day enjoyable
