Hukam #7 of 52 - Follow the discipline of The Five Ks strictly (panj kakaaraa dee drirr rakhnee)
Sukhdeep Singh goes through the sixth of the 52 Hukams given to all Sikhs by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. They are practical instructions that we can all begin to incorporate into our life to start earning the Grace of Khalgidaar Patshah.
This video is about following and keeping the discipline of the five Ks strictly. What are teh five Ks? Why should we keep discipline of them? And why strictly? What can we do to help us practically? Find out in this video.

I agree that Sikhs who are initiated into the Khalsa Panth should wear the 5K’s, however there are times when they should be able to take them off (except hair), for example flights or for court in some places. Sikhs should also realize that just wearing the 5K’s by itself has no value, and the real value comes with what we use them for. At the end, the 5K’s are just tools to help us in this life, and are not temporary, the teachings of the Guru are. I know a lot of my fellow Amritdharis who wear the 5K’s but don’t even understand the deeper meaning of Ik Oangkaar. A lot of people I know are also very fat and clearly don’t know how to defend themselves, even with a Kirpan. I encourage Sikhs to wear the 5K’s but I encourage even more to learn the meaning behind them, apply it, and not turn it into a ritual.

The Turbanator sorry bro don’t agree. This is your opinion and trying to satisfy your own self. Albeit the Sikhs should be educated about the 5 Ks but then even others should be educated and they need to acknowledge. Why not to wear in flights or courts..as per your logic then a Kirpan can be as dangerous outside as inside flights and courts. Instead of fighting for your own rules don’t talk about bowing to someone else’s rules. Lastly it’s up to the Sikhs how to manage themselves with their 5ks kirpan specially, but remember that the Guru has given us the birthright to be always armed , that’s revolutionary freedom, jus think about it.

I am an Amritdhari Singh who regularly wears the 5k's, reads and understands Gurbani, and I also goes to the gym, can we say the same for a lot of Gurdwara Babas who are basically walking talking ladoos? Im not trying to satisfy “myself” by telling Sikhs to use common sense and stay clear of rituals. An obese, untrained, “khalsa” who wears the 5Ks but doesn’t know what they stand for is not satisfying the Guru. I already stated that I support the 5Ks but Sikhs should ALSO realize WHY they wear them, and not turn it into a Ritual, which is a big problem today. In terms of the court, In BC Canada the Kirpan is allowed, but it’s not allowed some other places, of course Sikhs should fight to have the right to wear it, I never said they didn’t, but there are occasions when Sikhs can remove Kirpans. The truth is that realistically we must abide by the laws of the place we stay, and we should legally try to change them. On airplanes or in other countries, the situation is different, when you are a guest in another persons home, you must abide by their rules. Granted, if we dont like the rules, we can (legaly) change them, but that doesn't mean we can walk into anyone's place and do what we want. When it comes to knife rights or weapon rights in general, we should fight for the right of all to arm themselves, not just Sikhs to have a special status in society.

Okay, let me get this straight, I am a swimmer, a very good swimmer and I have played and participated at many different levels of competitions and have gained the confidence of being one of the best swimmer of my school, college and work place. But the thing is I have to remove my kirpan (obviously) for practice sessions and competions. As its very impractical to swim for competitions wearing a kirpan. But does that makes me any less of a sikh! I wear it again remembering the Guru, as soon as i am out of the pool and get changed. And i see few of my other friends who hesitates to remove their kirpans even in the pool and they tie it to the head. They barely can do a stroke properly as they dont dip their head or they are afraid the wooden kirpan cover will breake bcoz of getting wet, like mine broke once i went for river rafting. Also most pools dont even allow kirpans inside the pool as it can hurt someone while swimming. But i believe if i was stuck in all those things that my friends do and think i wouldn't have been a good swimmer and couldn't have won those medals that i have won over time. It would meen just that either Sikhs should not swim competitive level or they cant swim at that level. I mean we need to actually think logically as sikhs that what is the need for the time and act accordingly. Just as in flights for example. Waheguru ji ka Kalsa Waheguru ji ki Fateh!

Sarabjeet Singh everybody can suit oneself, you remove it for swimming fair enough, but what’s your problem to wear it in flights...it’s others problem not yours.dont let others dictate you. Also just remember ... once you start removing it ... you dilute your discipline and then slowly nobody will allow you to wear it in more and more places. Even today sikhs wearing kirpan isbecause of the hard earned battle of the Sikhs who earned their right to wear kirpan at all times.

That's what i want to say, i was very disheartened and argued alot when i was asked to remove my kirpan on flight for the first time but finally i had to. and I hope Sikhs all around the world gain so much respect and trust that they are allowed to wear Kirpans everywhere. But likei said for my sports perposes i have to remove it and i truly believe its alright for some moments in life when it is very necessary.

I hope you see this comment as I have a naive question. I apologise if it’s a wrong question but I would prefer to know. Q: So Guru Gobind singh ji introduced 5 ks and as per the Hukam we should follow them. But before Guru Gobind singh ji, the previous Guru never had 5 ks so they were never Gursikhs? I mean I know the answer already but does it mean they were less of a Sikh or not khalsa at all ? Did that make them any less close to Waheguru? Not sure if this makes sense but would appreciate if I can have a reply. My apologies if it is an ignorant question I’m still working to gain more knowledge and being on the path. Thank you 🙏🏽.

The Khara is not handcuffs its more of a wedding ring with our relationship with the Guru. Not many people wear to Kara. I don't pretend to know more I am just trying to remain as practical as possible.

Hi thanks for this. I think some of the things you have said don't make sense, like if the Kanga falls out we should ask for forgiveness. Also we shouldn't say that its a sin to cut hair etc.. Thats instilling unnecessary fear in people. We have to remain practical and avoid these sort of comments.

This path of sikhi isn't to please other people, you make these comments in an effort to lower the bar on rehat or requirements. Only those who have given their head to the guru are allowed to take amrit.
