This makes me so sad. Heartbreaking.

Most couples eventually downsize, as they don't require so much space as the family grows and leaves home. However, they can still stay married. This split is so mysterious as Hugh and Dev seemed so in love, so supportive of each other, with both believing in marriage and family. To pursue "individual growth" is a cop out. Wonder if we will ever know the reason. I wish them both well, the are great people and were a great couple.

Sometimes, people grow apart which doesn't mean they don't care about each other. That's life. At least they are parting on friendly terms.

My parents were married for 40 years, during their young ages I saw my father serve,care,provide to our family and love my mom truely, she is spoiled much I would say, 12 years ago my father was been sick , stoke, heart attacks almost 2x a year...my mom's turn to take care of him... and then I witness how she love him too during my dad's very low point...my father just died 2 months ago and I am thankful they never think of separating despite of all the trials in our family.... still hoping they can fix what is their problem no children would be happy seing their parents on separate ways...❤❤❤

For me and my husband, 47 years married, 52 together. People do what they have to do, but a lifetime of marriage to one person is a kind of miracle that is unexplainable. You can't possibly understand the meaning of it until you have it. So I am sorry for those who have missed the experience - like the Jackmans -- but I trust that your lives will be as fulfilling in ways unknown to me.

We are married 43 years, and have almost never been physically apart. We worked together in our business for 38 of those years, until we retired. We are blessed with a close relationship. But I understand that we are not the “norm”. Very much hoping that both partners will continue to be kind to each other after making this choice. People can be so mean with gossip!

It isn't as uncommon as one might think for couples to stay with each other in rough times for the kids sake! And also same goes for empty nesters . Once kids are grown for them to move on! It's a sad thing for the family . For what ever caused the final split . You would think since they were not spending a lot of time under the same roof they didn't have time to fight but in the same respect ...a marriage even one of 25 yrs need work and nurturing every day! And if there's no work on the marriage it can fail ! I wish them both the best and hope they find the peace and happiness they both deserve!

27yrs is a long time to be married. He has publicly said he loves her in many ways. Looking at her she clearly adores him to bits. Whatever the reason it's sad to see these two go separate ways. Its sad for their kids and, no matter how old they are, it still hurts.

I would say probably empty nest syndrome. My senior thesis was on child free couples vs couples with children. Empty nest couples tend to divorce more often. They have been parents for several decades and put their marriage to the side. Part of why I don't have kids.

It's sad when a spouse mistreats, lies or can't be faithful. In our day we are far too accepting of open marriages. Men and women need stability and want to be loved. Why stay with someone who isn't taken their vows for real.

They have an empty nest now and Deb has alot to do with the Australian movie and theatre industry and this is her turn to fly now and I believe Hugh thoroughly supports her with this new path they are taking ,Hugh is right into the NY theatre at the moment and they are a lovely couple who will always support each other.

Oh man! Totally cheered for this couple.

It's not over until it's over. The Jackmans are legally separating, which might or might not preclude to a divorce.

when you get to a certain age you begin to wonder "how much time do I have left?" and then you examine your entire life. That can be the impetus for such change.

I was so impressed with the longevity of their marriage....made me believe in love after my divorce. Guess nothing lasts forever and I'm so sad about that.😢😢😢

I think these two people have loved each other from the time they met and will continue to love each other until the moment they depart. Separation of their marriage doesn’t necessarily mean something is wrong. Perhaps this is what they both decided they wanted for their futures. To discover other things on their own. Why we all think doesn't matter, BUT I will still say why I think this happened. Deb probably wants to go back to life in Australia, n Hugh doesn't feel the same, 54. She older, 67 n wants to chill, n focus on her organization HOPELAND. He is still booking high-profile movies and has to travel a lot to promote. She is tired. They are at a crossroad n choosing their own individual journey. I believe they still very much love each other but more now as friends/parents to their children. Functioning as friends, not lovers. Also, I feel Deb pushes for the divorce because Hugh was always LOUD as hell about his love for her. Another thing Hugh stays fit, n Deb maybe can't keep up anymore with his fame. Mentally n phyiscally, there's a difference between them. 27 is a successful marriage. It's just ending n becoming a friendship

She lost a lot of weight and did extra surgery so now she looks younger and better then him, didnt think that was possible.. so i dont think its about keeping up she never looked better... and i agree he has been so loud about his love surely its coming from her side...

No. She played a part for too long. She came to realize that. The truth hit her hard. He always knew that she was playing a part in his life. He respected her for it. But it had nothing to do with the kind of love you think. It is a different love. A friend's love, at least from Hugh's side. And he was and still is grateful to her. That's my observation.

How can married couples, at that level, be apart for 4 months and then not even get the hint of the other one flying in-out of places and be able to 'surprise' each other? Either it was all scripted, which is almost 100% possible, in which case the entire lovelorn thing was all acting. Or the channel got the information wrong. Or they were already apart then and just continued the charade in public.

Separate but delay divorce for as long as you can. There is no love or bond like a real friendship. I suspect I can guess why this is happening but it’s truly sad. She would be a very rare occurrence in a lifetime. You can’t take that for granted.

Just incredibly sad but I suppose life is short and each can seek their own happiness now. Unfortunately love does not endure all in some cases…both have to have the resolve in order to stay together no matter what. Vows are just words…actions speak louder. Best to both.

The pretense of being happily married is common....many of us enjoy falsely impressing family and friends. Wrapped up in the fear of splitting, indecisiveness and procrastination, it is mostly found in first marriages. True love is virtually nonexistent but an irresistible fantasy to sing about or act about in showbiz. To gush about one's great love in public is a sign of ... and the prevalent death of Love. There it is. The one true statement here. All along the gushing, gushing, gushing alternated between wishful thinking and distraction. No other performer fills a show with such homages to a spouse; they are too respectful of their own privacy and of the audience. It will be interesting to see if “showtime”/act 2 is more honest and has better boundaries.

This is very sad, but who knows what happened. I think the theory of them "gutting it out" until their youngest was 18 is a decent theory. They definitely didn't look happy at Wimbledon, but it could have been who they were rooting for was behind. I doubt either one of them has an issue with paying child support whether the kid is 4 years old or 24 years old. The title of the video says this is why and nowhere in the video did they actually say this is why. Not that this any of our business.

It's interesting people are trying to figure out why they're splitting when they already stated why: "to pursue individual growth", that means they felf (or at least one of them), they couldn't support each others growth any longer, maybe they needed to separate in order to find their own path, maybe they (or one of them) felt stignated inside the marriage or outgrow their marriage.
