Hi. After all the updates to the camera + the Android 10 update....which do you think still tops in the front & rear camera department especially general daylight shots, night shots, dynamic range, colour accuracy, less noise when zooming & stabilization?

Great comparison. The daylight shots were almost even. Night shots on the Mate 20 look much more realistic. Mte 20 has better audio during the videos.

I've been struggling between these two for a long time, I've watched dozens of reviews, read thousands of comments and it was getting worse and worse every hour and every day. And the main issue was still the quality of the photos. Suprisingly your video helped me the most, so thank you so much for it - I'm taking the Mate 20pro! Thank you again :) And btw - p30 pro is better only with selfies. Not so important forme personally.

Great retrospective review. Daytime is close, night mode while unrealistic lighting the P30 doesn't get the oil painting effect as much and retains more details. That said video after 5 months of updates should not be that red tinted and the jerky panning makes videos nearly unusable so I'd agree with your conclusion that all round mate 20 performs better especially given the price difference now

Vert useful video, very well made :) The mate 20 pro colours are much more naturals on both day or night videos, surprising!

I just hope that Huawei will stop blocking the full potential of the Camera 2 api and allow level 3 access. It's an issue that Huawei seem to be ignoring.

Love the consistent quality picture from the Mate 20 Pro in different settings...… While the P30 Pro the picture was a bit saturated especially the water was too blue.....and the grass to green [ fluorescent ] looking to look real ?/? *The Huawei Mate 20 Pro was my go to choice for upgrading from my iPhone 6 , for which I received for free [ No money ] until the ban hit Huawei...… Will now rethink my decision to go with the Mate 20 Pro after seeing this video !!! How is the video quality now for the p30 pro? I've been thinking about getting it now since it can be had for a good price but that is just terrible video recording quality. So much stutters, frame drops and jittering and that red tinge is unbearable. It almost looks like it was taken by a low end phone. I hope some updates have brought it to the Mate 20 pro's level as the p30 pro is the newer device.

I can clearly see that the pictures taken on mate 20 pro has more details. While the pictures from p30 pro is brighter because of that missing some details.hope fully a software update can change that. The video 6:09 from m20 pro looks original

Unfortunately the P30 has never been great for video recordings... and after the last update it has become worse... the mate 20 Pro is the way to go right now

@@RedskullPro i bought it just now the zoom was 10x only and have an update 1.54 gigs so I did it but now he said there's big update 4.14 gigs 😃😂 and it's downloading now automatically..l didn't even try to see the camera zoom if it becomes 30x or not but its great feeling and good looking device... and the screen is Boe not Lg .. i checked by app called device info HW.... but dame this update is too big and slow downloading because network.. any way is this big update good or bad .?! And the phone still with it's performance or else ?🙂

Alex your build number when doing the video was 9.1.0.310 .. but i just bought the mate right now so my build number was 9.1.0.289 ..so i updated one to 9.1.0.300 which was 4.14 gigs and now have another one getting update it's 9.1.0.310 like you on the video and it's 4.17 gigs too ? I didn't reach you already 😂.. what's your new version number now 😃

@@d-tox8546 its okay no lags and very speedy.. The camera as always good with new 30 x zoom.. But i have issues with ram management.. Isn't good for 6 gigs ram and that's weird . It's get out from pubg suddenly and not putting most of apps on memory at all..

They fixed it on every device produced from december 2018. So they don't have screen problems anymore. Just pay attention to buy it from trustful seller. Someone could try to sell you some old mate 20 pro model with that annoying green screen

Fantastic video. Considering the value that is found the Mate20 pro, ends up being better buy since it has a better screen, stereo sound, the cameras are still fantastic, with updated zoom has been expanded to 30x digital.

no, keep it, not worth it. Maybe when the P40 comes out

P30 Pro's oversaturated video footage is due to the video codec incompatibility, so the colours are recorded accurately but the software you're using is not correctly rendering them. Mate 20 Pro had this issue at first but I believe it was resolved after several updates, and I expect the same for P30 Pro. With that said, it is shocking to see how much worse the video quality got on P30 Pro compared to Mate 20 Pro. It seems like the new RYYB filter matrix is taking a toll on the bit rate as it seems that ISP and CPU are clearly working harder for demosaicing hence struggling to resolve fine details and maintain stable frame rates. Panning is buttery smooth on Mate 20 Pro at 6:58, whereas P30 Pro is showing a noticeable stutter when dealing with movement. I'm really glad that I held off from P30 Pro though, my next phone will have at least decent video recording capability, and clearly P30 Pro is lacking one. Now I'm counting on Mate 30 Pro which supposedly will come with Cine Lens branding. Hopefully they don't mess up next time.

Mate 30 Pro will be without Google services and if you are one of those people who is gaming on your phone, then I think you won't be able to save your game progress without a Google account, which you won't be able to make on Mate 30 Pro if I understand it all correctly 😉

I'm actually getting a new phone today or tomorrow 😄 and because of great summer deals the mate 20 pro is actually around the same price if not slightly cheaper than the P30 non Pro. My first thought was getting either the non pro P30 or 1+7 or Honor 20 Pro.. however the H20Pro in not available here for another 2 weeks or so and well.. I managed without IP certification.. but for the same price if not slightly less you can get water and dust resistance... And wireless charging.... And super fast charging.... And the better display.. it's hard to go for the newer models

Yep, not happy with the june 2019 update for the P30 Pro, somehow they screwed up something and got a worse camera behaviour, just about in time for the summer season..... as you were reporting, to my eyes the daytime shoots somehow lack some detail... and the nighttime shoots saw a weird slight change of colors I don't like I hope it won't take them too much time to roll back some changes or re-tune the algorithms. Righit, Huawei? Also, I find quite annoying (I guess the same is true for the Mate Pro?) to not be able to tweak the jpg compression level... it might be irrilevant in practice, but still I don't like to be left out of the details this way...

YEAH, SAME FOR ME!

In Portrait P30 Pro wins and in resolution as well for daylight shots but saturation and color bit better in Mate 20 in terms of realistic shots.

Hey Alex, I have few questions about this video. 1- Why not also test low light photography with auto mode on? Trust me, the majority of people I know who has a Huawei device, doesn't know what night mode is. Plus, night mode on the P30 Pro is actually terrible when compared to the Mate 20 Pro, it oversharpens and has a greenish tint added to it. 2- Is it possible that you switched to vivid mode by mistake while taking videos on the P30 Pro? 3- For the next video, can you start also comparing 1080 30fps on phones, as they are more stable and bring in more light? 4- Was AI switched on while taking pictures? All in all, I agree with your conclusion. I forced to upgrade from the Mate 20 Pro to the P30 Pro due to gluegate, and the Mate 20 Pro was definitely the more consistent shooter out of the two. Selfies and extreme low light photography are the only parts where the P30 takes the win, the rest is for the Mate 20 Pro. I just hope Huawei ditches this RYYB setup, or at least perfect it before using it again.

Hi, 1. That could be true about the night mode... but if I won't use it people will complain about it. I guess I could incorporate a few auto-mode low light pictures for future videos. 2. I checked a couple of times and made sure that there was no color profile applied on the P30 Pro. After the last update from last week this is how videos look unfortunately. 3. Great suggestion 4. AI was turned on for all the pictures

@@RedskullPro I guess if Huawei decides to keep the RYYB sensor in the upcoming Mate 30 Pro, then I'm either downgrading from my P30 Pro back to the Mate 20 or I'm moving to the Note 10 if Samsung improved their image processing algorithm. The camera on the P30 Pro is hugely inconsistent for my own taste.

Redskull does it have reverse wireless charging?

I really like the Mate 20 Pro. It preserves detail in the highlights better, and finds a better overall exposure in most images. The Mate 20 Pro however doesn't seem to give priority to a subject in portrait pictures though, and gives a balanced exposure to the whole image. The P30 Pro wins there because it does recognise that the person needs to be exposed well. In terms of night shots the RYYB sensor works like a charm on the P30 Pro.

was going to purchase the p30 pro but it is pretty obvious the mate pics and vid are better - too bad they did not go 60 fps in 4k

@@VijAy54724 no problem, the phone is to good, still using it although I have the p30 Pro still I find the mate 20 Pro to good.

Wow the mate 20 took this one. Big suprise. The sound is much better on the mate 20 to u actually have stereo seperation not great sound but ok. The sound on the p30 is really bad.

Yeah, the last update did wonders for the Mate 20 Pro! I am thinking of switching to the Mate 20 Pro now and putting the P30 Pro aside for a while

The front facing camera is really bad in the Huawei devices, but the cameras in the rear are pretty good even for the cheap phones

Agree but wonder if as bad with a long selfie stick? Wonder if Alex could try this with future test videos, pics with extended selfie stick and without?

yeah, only the iphone & Pixel phones take decent looking selfies

İnteresting, Mate 20 pro has better microphone quality, amazing color profile and more detail comparing to the p30 pro. And for sure better desing.

Mate 20 pro👍🏼, somehow the p30 pro RYB clearly shows that the sky are green, water are green, dark side looks like too bright and yellow.

Watching on ZTE M fold able for $127 Amazon. Really neat device. P30 wins! Cheers

@@RedskullPro It compares with $300-500 phones by specs. Folded out, it's a browsing beast. Multitasking on two separate screens in two apps is great. Dolby Atmos stereo speakers are quite good. I might buy a second one. A 7" tablet that folds in half is just cool. If interested, I can mail you one. Peace

Wow, what's up with the P30 video?! Nuclear glowing colors, janky panning and pretty bad low light performance. Might finally scoop up a Mate 20 Pro since the prices have finally come down.

After the last update the video quality is terrible...but on the bright side the video quality on the Mate 20 Pro has been improved a lot!

I like the mate 20 pro better, especially for the colors that seems more accurate. Both of them suck for video...
