Hp hp 15-da0053wm Ram Upgrade

Hp hp 15-da0053wm Ram Upgrade
Hey everyone... I am going to try to start a project. Along with upgrading my laptop, I am going to build a PC (desktop) too. I am accepting donations in parts, not money, and am going to have a community build (so to speak).
I will include the names of any who want to participate, and will be happy to accept anything for these bulds. Just DM or PM me or even email me at davidehayessr@gmail.com if you want to help out with these videos.
I am thinking, I may even give the PC away (not my laptop...lol...) after it's done and my videos are finished. We will see... But that is the direction I am heading with this series of videos.
If you would like to donate to the channel you can use this link, and I appreciate any donations. All donations will go for channel upgrades and items for review.

    I inherited a HP Notebook - 15-da0032wm, pretty much the same laptop from my late brother. After checking out the system specs I decided to upgrade the components. I bought 16bg of RAM, A new M.2 NVME 512gb SSD to replace the 16bg Intel Optane Memory SSD. And a new 512gb 2.5" SSD to replace the 1tb mechanical 5400rpm HDD. While the case was open I replaced the thermal paste on the CPU/APU with Artic Silver 5. First I updated the PC with all the latest software updates from MS. Then imaged the HDD with Macrium Reflect to have a back up of the system. Next I disabled (very important) the Intel Optane Memory module in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology software. Removed the Intel M.2 stick and the 1tb HDD. Installed the new M.2 SSD, left out the new 2.5 SSD. Did a clean install of Windows 10. This way there is no HP bloatware. Updated Windows. Installed the new 2.5 SSD. I couldn't find the RTC battery. I would have liked to replace that with a fresh one while the case was open. It's probably on the opposite side of the MB. Closed up the case and the PC is running fast and smooth. So these are the new components. 16bg of G.Skill DDR4 2666 8GBX2 CL19-19-43 1.20V, TeamGroup 512gb MP33 NVME SSD Gen3 X4, Teamgroup 512 gb EX2 2.5 SSD. Total cost for the 3 new components was $194.00 at Newegg. Even though this PC was about $400.00 new the added upgrade wasn't too bad. Too bad it only has an i-3

    Wow, you went full bore on it. I'm happy to hear it all worked out for you. I can't afford to do all that to mine, or I would too. And after my second stroke, and my short term memory issues, I wouldn't be able to do this all myself anyways. I am going to upgrade when this one no longer works for me. I'll be looking into a laptop built just for gaming or video editing. My guess is probably about $1,200.00 or more... That sucks...lol... Thank you for watching and for your comment. I think I will pin it so others can view the upgrades you made and if they have questions, can can ask you directly. Thanks again.

    I finally got mine back up and running but it is really slow now. I can't get the 16Gb Intel Optane to work like it did when it was new. I just made an update video explaining everything I just went through and the lack of support I got from HP. I ended up purchasing a new laptop for editing 4k videos and I couldn't be happier with it. I do not recommend HP fort people who aren't PC savvy because of your warranty runs out and something goes wrong your water on your own. Even if it was an issue that you had prior to your warranty rerunning out.

    @@saroku You are correct about the anti static gloves, mat and ground cable. But I'm not a service tech, who does this all the time. I'm someone like the ordinary person just replacing his RAM. No, you are not ..lol. I'll bet you have knowledge about other topics, that I would be totally in the dark. Before expanding your ram though, you may want to try to revert back to a saved backup (if you made one). And even installing extra ram may not be the issue. I've made other videos on these HP laptops that explain why I'll never go back to HP products again. But with that being said, my issue (I had several, with both laptops) may not be the norm either and it may have just been the person's who were trying to sell me upgrades and more products (extended warrantys, and more expensive customer support). Please keep me informed on how you make out with your laptop too. On a positive note, others have absolutely no issues with theirs and still love them. Thank you for your helpful video David, I have a similar model of HP laptop, HP 15-DA0xxx, and added 4gb of RAM and it is certainly faster than before. To really speed things up, I want to replace the hard drive with SSD. Can I simply replace the hard-drive (1 TB) with SSD PCIe NVME (1 TB)? There is a free dedicated slot for this on the motherboard. Or must I replace the hard drive with a 2.5inch SATA SSD? Or do I have the choice?! The prices are similar now and the SSD PCIe NVME option looks quicker.

  • @HayesTech

    Well, as far as replacing the hard drive, yes, you can do what you are asking. But you need to use one of those programs that will copy your operating system and other stuff over to the drive of choice. I've never done that, but want to as soon as I can afford too, so I can't really help you much more in this subject. But as soon as I can afford to do this, I will be making a video on how to do it. I have a HP 15-da0xxx and was assured by P C World that the standard 4GB RAM was more than adequate, not the case, the laptop is quite slow and requires restarting at least twice a day otherwise it gets to the point of being so slow it's unusable, it takes an age to give you the login from the lock screen and I have also had to replace the charging jack, I don't know if most of then problem is old style hard disc drives not coping well with windows 10 but by contrast my 8 year old Toshiba Satellite laptop on Windows 7 is up and ready to go from start up in a quarter of the time of the HP and doesn't hang up all the time.

    I'm not sure what the issue is there. But I would send it back to HP because, if it's the same one I have it shouldn't be running like that. That's how mine was behaving when I had to send mine back to HP for repair. Now mine is running like a top again. And K highly recommend adding at least 4Gb extra ram, if you are planning on using it to edit videos.

    Well, I've never had that apart on mine yet but I'll try to do a video on that. If you take it apart, like i show in the video, you should be able to access the keyboard and from looking at several other laptops it's a one price slab of rubber that is glued, or snapped into a groove. You should be able to gently pull the keyboard from the top half. But again, I've never done it to this laptop so I can't be 100% sure of to the exact process. I'm sure it's not too difficult, but I have to stress, take your time and be slow and careful. Use isopropyl alcohol as the cleaner. They also make a cleaner for electronic components that comes in a spray can that should also work. Let me know how it goes and don't forget to get in on my biggest giveaway yet. I had to do a factory reset, to clear out some crap that was installed via bad software, and after it came back up I noticed a marked lack of memory power (like it was lacking ram) and I'm having issue editing videos on it now. I'm going to upgrade my ram from 8Gb to 32Gb and see if that fixes the issue. But from what I can tell, the Intel Optane ram isn't working like it was before I factory reset it. • @HayesTech

    @HayesTech

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes you can put a standard SSD is this device by pulling out the hard drive and replacing it with the high speed SSD. As for changing the Intel Optane ram for an SSD hard drive.. I'm not sure. I'm new to this M.2 technology and how it's used. I do think they make an M.2 style had drive with like 256Gb of storage on it and you should be able to install Windows and run it from there, but I've n never tried it. For what I do, editing videos, using the M.2 the way it was intended works for me for editing video, so I'm not going to change that. I'm editing 4k videos with only 8GB of Ram and no non integrated video card and that's hard to do without the Intel Optane acting as another 16Gb of Ram. From what I've read i can upgrade my Intel Optane Ram/M.2 with up to 118Gb it more but the 118Gb chip is $200.00. So if i ever upgrade it, it's more likely to be to 32Gb and that's only $76.00. That's more like what I can afford.

    Yes. But I'm not sure that the 4Gb chip will make much of a difference from the 16. 16Gb ram in these laptops really kicks them into overdrive. But it can't hurt throwing in the extra 4Gb either. If you put in a 16Gb stick of ram, you will definitely see a massive difference. My laptop that they sent me to replace this one came with 12Gb ram ( one 8Gb and one 4Gb chip) and this really made this thing run fast and smooth. Remember though, the max ram you can install in these laptops is 32Gb.

  • @HayesTech

    @HayesTech

    To put it in an easier way to understand... At least for me... Lol... Most PCs and laptops work best when both sticks of RAM are the same. Meaning, that if you primarily stick of RAM is 16 GB then your secondary, or B slot, should be the same as the A slot. That doesn't mean that you can't use the 4 GB stick with the 16, but from everything I've read and experienced keeping the RAM paired usually gives you the best benefits. So yes, adding that 4 GB stick to your 16 GB stick that you purchased will definitely add to it. I hope that made sense...

Upgrading the RAM in your laptop will be the biggest boost in perceivable performance too so you'll be loving that. I don't remember wether it's 16 or 32Gb for max RAM for them but I think it's 32. Good luck with this and im sure you will love it.

    With my 8Gb of ram in mine, I'm editing 1080p videos with zero issue and editing 4k videos with some time (meaning after dropping in the 4k video I have to wait till the red line goes the whole way across the video before editing). I can still edit the 4k Videos but if I want to have smooth playback while editing, I need to let that red bar build completely. After I get some money saved up though, I am going to upgrade to a high end gaming laptop. They are some of the best for editing 4k videos. But if editing 1080p, this laptop is a dream and did it very well Good luck to you and I'll tell you now that adding even 4Gb of extra ram will make a huge difference. I highly recommend getting the total amount you want to put in it in one chip though. It just uses the ram better from a single chip than from 2 chips. I was running 2, 4Gb chips for a total of 8Gb and it was running pretty good. But after switching to 1, 8Gb ram chip (installed in the "A" slot and leaving the "B" slot open), it seems to be running even faster and smoother. That may just be me since I didn't run any speed tests, but that's how I will be upgrading the ram from now on in this laptop.

    No, it has a standard hard drive, but fast, comes with 4GB ram (I've added a 4GB stick for a total of 8GB) and has HP Optain memory (it's like extra, super high speed ram, in a way {16GB}), had a 15.6 inch touch screen and 3 USB ports (two of which are 3.0 and higher).

  • @HayesTech

    @HayesTech

    4 жыл бұрын

    No, it has a very fast typical spin drive (but a fast one), a 14.5 inch 920p touch screen, comes with 4GB ram and I installed another 4GB for a total of 8GB and it has an Optain ram card, which is basically like an SSD but acts more like ram then an SSD. It gives you the option to replace it with a true SSD though. But with the 1TB memory that it comes with, I don't need the extra storage. Although there are arguments that the Optain memory isn't worth it and changing that to an SSD and installing the windows OS into that, would speed it up. To be honest, it's fast enough for me the way it is and the only thing I'm going to change (right now) is to add more DDR4 ram. I would love to put 32Gb in it. That Optain ram can also be upgraded to 32, 64 or even higher but since it is so new technology it's super expensive. Right now the Optain ram it comes with is 16GB. So there is 16GB Optain ram and 8GB DDR4 ram. I hope this answers your question and I plan on upgrading this laptop soon. When I do I will video the whole process.

    Awesome. I'm happy it helped. I'm actually waiting on a call from HP right now about fixing this laptop. I've had many issues with it so we will see if they back their products.
