The story Stephen didn’t want Howard to tell was talked about on Stern’s show a couple days ago. Howard offered to give the first interview to Stephen before Jimmy because Stephen has better ratings. But Stephen knew that Howard and Jimmy were really close friends and Stephen told Howard to do Jimmy’s show first because he knew Jimmy needed the ratings and because of how close they were. That says so much about Stephen and how friends and relationships come before ratings. That says so much about Stephen’s character. Great interview by the way!

It does say so much about Stephen - I knew that the story must show Stephen in a good light and that's why he demured. He probably didn't want to call attention to either of their ratings either.

If you guys were wondering what the story Stephen didn't want Howard to tell, it was about his appearance on The Tonight Show with Fallon. In his radio show leading up to the promotional tour of his book Howard talked about dreading going on talk shows and two of the talk shows that wanted him on were Colbert and Fallon. Howard is friendly to both Colbert and Fallon and Howard thought that if he went on one show before the other that it might seem he's showing favoritism, that is not the case. He ended up doing a coin flip to see which show he would do first and the winner was Colbert. A few weeks later Howard was back on the radio talking about how bad and stressed he feels about doing Fallon's show second, although if Fallon won the coin toss he would feel bad that he was doing Stephen's show second. Stephen heard him on the radio and called Howard (off air)and told him to do Fallon first and he's OK with it. Howard actually tells this story on his appearance on Fallon.

After listening to that interview, she had a whole different opinion of him. I thought to myself, "wow, he seems to have matured". Lol. My girlfriend really seems to respect him now. I know from reading other comments that some of his fans are deserting him. Well, to those people that use to love him for all these years and are now abandoning him because you found out that he actually has a heart, good riddance. There is enough hate in this world and people who just think about themselves. Sorry to have gone on this long, but Terry Gross was a good interviewer.

Howard Stern is a legend. America just wouldn't be the same without him. Unless you've followed him from the beginning you really genuinely have no idea how important he is to many, many people. We're talking about the lifeblood of America, everyone from truckers to firefighters to cops idolize the guy. He was there for 9/11. Go watch the rebroadcast/special they did on that day. People were telling him he should evacuate, go home, because they didn't know where the terrorists were going to strike next and he was IN NEW YORK CITY. He was like "No, this is too important. The people need me."

So proud of Howard, He's evolved so much as a person. When people act like assholes, toward other people just for a laugh, it's almost always about there own insecurities. Howard has always been a comedic genius and one of the greatest interviewers of our time. After years of psychotherapy and addressing different forms of trauma from his childhood, he has a more positive outlook on life. Howard, now understands that his parents did the best they could, and that's all any of us are capable of. My own personal background has so many similar parallels to Stern, which is why I always found him relatable....In my opinion, he has managed to use his popularity and influence to become an advocate for therapy. There's always been such as negative stigma attached to mental health. Love is the greatest medicine there is. There's no better feeling than the human touch from people you connect with. Freeing the mind is freeing the soul! I love you Howard

I really love this interview. That exchange around the 22 minute mark is so interesting. They had a whole little side conversation going on there and Stern ultimately decided not to tell the story. The way they were acting, especially Stern leads you to believe that it was going to be a very flattering story about Colbert. For Colbert to be so protective makes me think it may involve a third party and the story may be embarrassing to them. I thought it was very cool that Stern clearly considered it and decided not to tell the story. That's the way it should be. We don't need to know fucking everything.

Scott Evans Im not fan of people like Stern and the folks at TMZ. However when it comes to free speech, I’m for these people having the choice to have their careers. I’m glad Sanders agrees as well.

Howard is the best interviewer I have ever heard. He's a master at getting information that no one else can get. I enjoyed his shock days and I love his transformation. We all get older and wiser.

I love Howard Stern. I remember listening to him on DC 101 back in the late 70s/early 80s. And his show on some cable channel back in the 90s. So outrageous, so intelligent. And Private Parts was hilarious. I look forward to reading the new book (and seeing the movie?) Thank you Stephen for this wonderful interview. Especially the extended version on KZread

Great interview. I actually agree with stern, I think it would have helped Clinton if she had gone on his show.

Mental health issues are one of the symptoms that phd chemist dr Andrew Hall Cutler found to be often related to heavy metal poisoning. His work was and still is revolutionary in many ways and has helped so many people tremendously. I would really recommend reading the success stories and "what not to do" you can find it by googling his name, and also reading a really great article by Rebecca Rust Lee on the Weston Price site.

@WaitingToFade ~ I didn't hear it as "not bothered to appear," but, given Stern is pretty controversial, was perhaps concerned abt rocking the boat and losing votes. That was my take, anyway.

@@mattmarkus4868 The reason why "she's not very likable" is because people don't know her. Stern would have shed light on her.

@@santadog9 Some personalities aren't likable. I think she's one of those people. You think she's just needs to open herself up and tell her story, but I don't think so. I don't think getting to know her would help. She's just one of those personalities that is kind of cold and off-putting and somehow feels artificial.
