How White Saved Weezer

Комедия

Everything Will Be Alright in the End or EWBAITE was Weezer's critical comeback. It boasted a shockingly different sound than albums like Make Believe, Red, Raditude, and Hurley but it was still narrow in its appeal. Rivers Cuomo wanted the success found with Blue, Green, and Make Believe without betraying existing fans. He needed to strike a new balance. With the help of Jake Sinclair and strong inspiration from the Beach Boys, White became the ultimate compromise. Sincere like Pinkerton, but accessible like Green. Not to be confused with SZNZ summer lol.

While I don’t condone the blatant Raditude slander on this channel and the Lil’ Wayne diss was uncalled for, I’d honestly consider this channel one of the new best Weezer-themed channels on the platform. On a long car ride, my mom and aunt told me I could put whatever music I wanted at a certain point. Since their taste is so completely different, I thought maybe the white album's "popiness" might be okay for them. I put it on expecting them to just be okay with it, they ended up rocking out to it and asking me who it was. They didn't seem to enjoy the blue album that much. Still, my point is the white album probably is in fact a masterpiece most people can enjoy.

my favorite song off of white (and weezer in general) is jacked up. it's such a depressing song and it does it without going back to Pinkertons sound. the somber piano, grim lyrics, and heartbroken vocals all come together to make such a gut wrenching song. it makes me feel like I'm at a local fair by myself watching the lights of the rides flicker, everyone laugh and have fun while I miss out on all that because I went alone. one thing I'm slightly mad about is that the melody for the bridge is from one of my favorite weezers demos, since you came around, meaning that a melody so good for a full length song will only be presented as the melody for a bridge. even then the bridge is phenomenal and comes back to the chorus with a clash that would make me sob if I were in the mood to cry. it's just overall such a perfect song and the reason white album is probably my favorite weezer album (and album in general). tl:dr jacked up is such a good song it makes me want to kill myself

The White Album could not have come out at a more perfect time for me personally. I was in my freshmen year of high school, and around that time I was really starting to get way more into music. I started to discover/rediscover bands that I actually liked instead of just listening to whatever everyone else my age was listening to at the time. The summer going into my freshmen year I had gone to my first concert, and I eventually started to collect vinyl. I remember hearing "Thank God For Girls" and "King of the World" for the first time and telling everyone I knew that they should listen to them too. Almost every time I got the same responses you would expect like, "Weezer sucks," and "Weezer hasn't made anything good since Pinkerton." I even remember my dad telling me the ladder. Before this, I really only knew Weezer for the songs that I would hear on the radio, on my dad's iPod, and the songs that were in the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games. When The White Album finally dropped, I listened to it on repeat so many times, and it eventually led to me becoming the Weezer superfan that I am today. The White Album was also like the 2nd or 3rd album that I bought on vinyl with my own money. I also remember one day my dad picking me up from some after-school thing, and he was listening to the fucking White Album. I asked him if he liked it, and he said he did. 2 years later, him and I went to see Weezer live when they were on tour with the Pixies.

It's absolutely their 3rd best album, a modern masterpiece, and the Beach Boys tribute record Rivers always dreamed of making. Anybody who says they can't listen to anything past Pinkerton needs to wake up and at least give this one a listen. Does it have some weird points? Sure. But just enjoy the ride. Thank you so much for making this video, White is and has been my favorite Weezer album since I got into the band, and I truly believe that if it were to have been released around the time of or in place of one of the first two albums, it’d be held in just as high of regard as them

I remember so muuuch the day this album was released, april 1st, a great summer starting for me, starting a new life, and this album brings me a lot of joy, real joy, how 6 years passed away so quick?, I remember it like it was just yesterday, in that time I was a hardcore old weezer fan but this changed all my engine and I started to enjoy the modern one, and enjoy all poppy music in general, still in love with old weezer but man, this one was a life changer for me. Thanks for this awesome video, I love each of them, you bring a lot of information and personality.

I remember getting round to listening to it back in 2016/17 and I was blown away one of my favourite albums by them. Really up there with the first 2 for me. That are some of my favourites of all time.

i was 12 when Pinkerton came out. I got into Weezer off of blue in 1994. Pinkerton blew my ass away from the get-go. i absolutely adored that record and I still do to this day. Weezer's first several albums all came out at the exact right time for how old I was when each album dropped...or it seems that way to me. Pinkerton was loved when it dropped, though. All of my friends loved it. I guess we were just weird lol

I love this album. It is becoming entirely grating how every Weezer album since Pinkerton is hailed as their comeback album. I love Weezer!

The only thing I could think about during the counter-argument against Magnet was the "Do you like Hewy Louis and the news" scene from American Psycho.

I don’t know enough about Rivers’ personal life to know, but does he have an open marriage? He seems to write a lot of lyrics about encounters with women even in recent albums.

No. People have looked into to this and the answer seems to be that A. Rivers just has a lot of experiences to look back on for songs and B. He's just good at spinning fake narratives. The Tinder thing was Rivers basically running a social experiment to understand how people interact these days. If you listen to Spring, there's a song about how amazing and strong his relationship with his wife is and OK Human's Mirror Image basically indicates that he feels that she's his perfect match.

Enjoying your stuff, but you've implied in two videos that Brian wrote "Freak Me Out," and yet Rivers has sole writing credit for it according to both Wikipedia and Weezerpedia.

very hard to judge a weezer record on it's own, even their greatest modern records are somewhat tainted by the existence of their first two albums.. and imo it's understandable since they got most fans into the band in the first place at the end of the day, there'll be some weirdness, but that kind of makes somber and grounded tracks more impactful, at least to me
