Thank you folks for sharing all of this with us. Is it okay that I cried at the end? Neo reminds me of me. Norfolk and Western’s main line between Roanoke, Va and Winston Salem, NC ran about 150 yards from our homestead, and I learned to drive on a Ford 8n at the age of 12. I am now 59, but Neo and I had the same loves…..trains, tractors, fishing and outdoors. I do keep all of you in prayer. God bless my friends!

Thank you! It's been quite the journey so far but I can't lie, it is pretty cool having a train in my front yard. I couldn't believe how well this steam engine was maintained when I found it. There's a lot of interesting history behind it for sure.

What a great video, I really enjoyed that! I can tell a lot of time and effort went into filming and editing. It paid off! I very much enjoyed this both for its drama free narrative and for its honest and honorable depiction of the working man. Kind and personable, straightforward, patient, smart and experienced, tough. I really enjoyed the thoroughness of the preparation. Aligning the rails on the trailer, every bit of cargo aboard diligently & effectively tied down, little details like Diz putting shims into the stacks of sleepers to get it juuust right. And the best part: all the effort was rewarded! Zero accidents, zero injuries. Capital! The showcase of both modern and vintage technology was a stirring sight. The century old steam tractor (from the first leg of the drive) hauled by a modern truck with a gargantuan sleeper cab, driving along thousands of miles of paved multi lane highways. The brand new, plastic wireless remote control used to operate the winch while loading the antiquated train and cabin on the trailer. Excellent, excellent!!! I could go on!!! The best video I have seen in awhile! A real work of art, a statue commemorating the White Man and his American culture without bias, and most important, without the uploaders intent. This video was made with one purpose, but it served another fantastically. Thank you for uploading! A really, really good video! I would love to see more things like this, and based on the comments a lot of other people enjoyed it too. Subscribed!

I am very excited to see this porter run on your railroad. The locomotive is in great hands and looks like it is ready to stretch it legs on a long run. If you ever need 2 ft gauge railroad inspiration, I suggest researching/visit the Wiscasset, Waterville, & Farmington Railway up in Maine. They are currently rebuilding a 2 ft gauge steam locomotive and almost done constructing a new wood round house. They also have an Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff.

As someone who absolutely loves anything to do with trains, seeing this one fully restored and working makes me really happy. Would be so cool to own a few hundred acres of land and have a small train like that one running throughout the entire property. Maybe a property with a few creeks and streams just to have an excuse to have the train go over bridges over looking water. I live near where trains pass by a few times each day. If I listen hard enough I can hear it from my house. ( I live 3.80 miles from the nearest train tracks. ) So neat hearing the train each day.

What a beautiful beautiful pice of machinery. I’m from Britain the home of small railways, I’ve loved narrow gauge railways for over 50 years, and I’ve loved Bachman’s On 30 porter range of steam locos (HO track O gauge scenery and trains there Wild West trains are just beautiful.) your train reminds me of the Welsh slate quarry locomotives. Lovely vid I’ve joined up now to see what your about I’ll watch a few of your vids and go from there, but it’s a beautiful piece of machinery ( I think I may have mentioned that already). This is my first of your vids, I’m truly sorry for the loss of your compatriot I’m assuming (but hoping I’m wrong) that he’s passed away and it’s criminal that one so young has gone from the people who love them.

Hmmm I almost skipped over this post. Im glad I didn't, this is an awesome story of an idea that came to fruition through PATIENCE AND LOTS OF WORK. I hope the break down wasn't too awful bad. Your Brother Niel, sounds like he's passed on. When someone passes on only their body remains here with us. The Soul goes off to the be with the father of many nations Abraham. There they are in a perfect slumber pending their resurrection and a lengthy conversation with our Lord Jesus Christ. If there was faith in Niel that was at least the size of a mustard seed, there is a outstanding chance you all will have him back in utterly perfect perfection...😊 Im Scott and I'm subscribed and I'll be watching and looking forward to seeing more of your story as it will unfold... 😷🚕🛣️🤔😊✌️🌞🧐

The learned wisdom in your remarks regarding buying a new trailer verses a worn-out used one as you're driving thousands of miles. Over my life, I've watched people step over $100 bills to save pennies. Beat up equipment, worn out, sun cracked tires, bad bearings, worn-out brakes, leaking hydraulics, cracked frames, the list is endless. They never factor in the costs associated with breaking down. Years ago, my sister, her husband, and their three small boys decided they wanted to take the boys to Disney land. They intended to drive from Portland Oregon to Orange County California in a Chevy 1/2 ton van with 160k miles on it and NO air conditioning. I asked why on earth wouldn't you just fly? Alaska Airlines has family travel packets. You leave Portland at 07:00 and arrive in Orange County around 10:00. Stay at the Disneyland hotel, and you won't need a rental car. They have a shuttle from the airport right to the front doors. Check in, grab lunch, and head into the park by noon. No arguments or kids fighting in a hot car for 17 hours, that's assuming the van doesn't break down, overheat, or the transmission dies. Not to mention multiple meals on the road, multiple gas fill ups. I remarked if you can't afford to fly, then you can't afford this trip. They flew and just shortened the trip to four days instead of seven. Paying up front to do something the right way will always be cheaper in the long run!

If it not meant to be.. The way I look at life, is, if it was not meant to be, that is the best gift ever, I cannot tell you how fortunate my life is now, I thought for over a decade something would not happen, what I wanted almost more than having thumbs, came to me in 2021, not when I was expecting it.. My life has changed in such a positive way, the lesson is to trust the universe, ok, you wanted a train, we will get the train, no any train, but your train, and that is what happened... You had no say in how the train came into your life, you could not force the owner to sell, but he saw in you something.. Just imagine if you had bought the 2nd train, it had a massive mechanical issue, time and money.. but more than that, confidence in the whole decision tainted.. It was meant to be..

This is awesome! Nice to see locomotives being kept in operation. Im from a farm in New York and we also have a family farm! We are looking to add a steam locomotive. We saw you mentioned looking at the “Nevada Girl” which is the exact type of locomotive we are looking for built by crown. Do you have any contact ways we could get in contact with to see if the locomotive is still for sale? We would truly appreciate it. Again. Great work!

My son Neo and I started building this railway together. Not long after that he passed away 😢 at the age of 16. It's been a hard journey for Gina and I but we are continuing to build the railway in his honor.

Manufacturers back in the day needed to make something that would be safe to operate in the mines. There's a lot of information on our locomotive in the "history of" video but it was originally used in the silver mines out in Wallace & Burke Idaho. The mines would have an active air line going down the length of the mineshaft for the locomotive to "refuel". We'll see if we can't find one that's still operational in a future video! :)

Hi, As I am sure that you are aware the locomotive was originally built for The Standard Mining Co, Wallace, Idaho as a compressed air mining locomotive (It was the 11th compressed air locomotive built by H K Porter). - 0-4-0CA H K Porter 1715/1896. H K Porter Class B-P-O (B= 4 driving wheels. P= Pneumatic. O= Built without a cab) Built originally for 18" gauge track. Then in 1935 it was sold to The Hecla Mining Co becoming their no 17. Eventually it was acquired by Bert Randolph for his locomotive & steam collection in Willits, California. He ran it as a compressed air locomotive prior to its rebuilding as a steam locomotive. One of his party tricks was to use it to make ice for people's drinks at parties! I am not sure when it was converted into a steam locomotive. Eventhough it is now a steam locomotive. It is in fact the oldest surviving H K Porter compressed air locomotive! Between November 1890 and April 1931 H K Porter built at least 480 compressed air locomotives (It is likely that EIMCO probably built more compressed air locomotives in the post WW II era though). The last American mine to use Porter compressed air locomotives was Homestake Gold Mine, Lead, South Dakota. Who had 36 locomotives built between 1901 and 1931(The last two Porter compressed air locomotives being built for Homestake). They survived in use until 1983. At least 20 have survived into preservation. There are a few Porter coming air locomotives in working order. Probably the best known is the example at the Western Museum of Mining & Industry near Colorado Springs (It is also a Class B-P-O locomotive) At present I am working on a history of compressed air locomotives worldwide. As part of my research into the subject I have details of most American builders of this type of locomotive.

@@nicholaskelly1958 That is really cool information and you must be an expert on Porter's. A lot of people don't realize that 0-4-0's and 0-6-0's were the mainstay of industrial and switching operations for many companies and railroads and the bigger railroads used 0-8-0's & 0-10-0's to haul/push longer strings of cars before GE introduced their line of 44-ton diesels and heavier classes up to 120/150 tonners.
