How U.S. Navy ships defend the Red Sea from Houthi attacks

"CBS Evening News" anchor and managing editor Norah O'Donnell gets a rare look at how U.S. Navy ships positioned in the Red Sea are combatting aggressive attacks by Houthi rebels and defending commercial ships. O'Donnell reports from the aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower and the missile destroyer USS Mason.

News alert to you both. The Red Sea is a major international shipping lane. Unless you really love higher prices in your local supermarket and Amazon, I suggest you stop trying to spread that misinformation. I bet you've bought dozens of products were shipped through the Red Sea too.

@@Monarch683 Products bought in America travel across the Pacific, not the Suez. The main commodity traveling through the Red Sea is oil and natural gas headed for Europe, and those ships are generally being spared since they're Arab. The remaining trade is mostly cargo headed from Asia to Europe. The attacks in the Red Sea were limited to ships linked to Israel, which have all since rerouted around Africa. American involvement means there are now new targets for the Houthi. Even so, the Houthi still announce after every attack that they'll stop the second Israel pulls out of Gaza. Whether or not the US should involve itself to protect Israeli international trade can be debated, but it was never going to significantly impact prices on American shelves.
