When Pirates Attacked 2 American Warships | March 2006

In March 2006, the USS Gonzalez and the USS Cape St George were conducting a board and search operation on a suspicious vessel in the Indian Ocean. As two American boarding teams approached the craft, small arms fire began to be received from pirates stationed on the vessel, forcing the boarding teams to disengage and return to the safety of the warships; however, the unexpected then happened, as the pirates switched their fire onto the two warships themselves, marking the first time in the 21st Century that a US Navy ship had come under fire from an enemy vessel.

I am super proud to announce the release of an eBook project I have been working on over the past few months! This book is part one of a series that will cover the histories of every Division that was active in the British Army from September 1939 - January 1947. Part one covers the Armoured & Cavalry Divisions. The histories in the book cover a Divisions full story, from its formation to disbandment, and everything in between, including movements, actions, planned moves, key dates, commanders etc. Also included is a full outline of a Divisions movement in the U.K. and in the post-war period, two topics that are often overlooked in the historiography of the British Army. For some of the Divisions, such as the 9th Armoured, 10th Armoured and the 1st Cavalry, this is the first time in over 80 years that their war chronicle is told in full. If you are interested and would like to purchase a copy of the book, be sure to check out the link below: payhip.com/livethforevermore

For everyone wondering: the 12 Pirates were exchanged for hostages of a freight ship that went missing in January the same year. i had to quite dig deep for that one. But of course this happened behind closed doors and was covered up quite nicely. Eric, if you Digital deep you will find all 12 were exchanged for crew members of ships hijacked previously that year. This is why it has happened on a neutral, non combatant ship (I believe a Dutch ship). However you won't find any official info as US navy or government will not make any deals (officially) with any pirates. Read between the lines and you got the answer why. Thanks 😊

Probably legal reasons. If they capture them, they'll be held responsible for them, and due to the fact these are probably stateless people, or are deemed to be as such by there own country who don't want these persons, the US would be obliged by international treaties to take them to the US. And because there are no extraditing treaties with most of these countries, the US would be stuck with them. So it would be a free ticket for the pirates to the US, whether this is to prison or otherwise.

Likely so, on a HMAS ship around a later time doing a similar job off the Horn some Yeman/Somali "Fishermen" after a night of chasing them out of the corridor. They asked for help, the dhow sank when the RIBs got close and they got a free ride to a coaster heading back to Puntland. They were astounded at the food, seating, seeing women onboard, lights, freshwater from the bubblers etc. A lot of shit we take for granted. I don't approve but I get it, they've got nothing to lose sitting on dirt worrying about starving.

No doubt the gutless decision by the state department not to prosecute will result in more pirate action and civilian deaths. Let’s go Brandon!! The catch and release response to crime doesn’t work in .Seattle, .Chicago and won’t work off the coast of Somalia. Hopefully we didn’t return or upgrade their weapons and sunk boat.

I agree with what you're saying, but this occurred in 2006, long before Biden was elected.

@@paulbork7647 so this occurred under Bush 2. The Somali region is still unstable but piracy appears to be down.

All I can say is DUH! Seriously? A rubber raft or small dingy against 2 American war ships? Not the sharpest tools in the shed. Well done you - To the two warships! Thank you for the share! ♥️🤍💙🇺🇸♥️🤍💙🇺🇸♥️🤍💙🇺🇸

    A Dhou isn't a rubber dingy.
