How travelling makes you a better person | Aleksander Aleksiev & Yanitsa Tencheva | TEDxUWCRCN

Can travel change the way you see the world. For aleksander and Yanitsa their experience travelling across the whole South American continent opened their eyes to the compassion and generosity of the human spirit. Through this experience they believe that traveling can indeed make you a better person.
Alexander graduated the Bulgarian national school for ancient cultures and languages, specialized in ancient history. He studied Hispanic studies and business management in Queen Mary, University of London. Alexander also had the opportunity to enjoy an exchange year through the ‘Erasmus’program in Seville, Spain. Having adventurous spirit, Alexander travelled across the whole South American continent on land from Bogota to Ushuaia. He is also the founder of the Sofia Mountaineering Club, working for various charitable and environmentalist causes
Yanitsa has studied Ecology and Environmental science in Sofia University. After finishing her bachelor degree, she continued her studies and became master in the sphere of Virology. After a while, she entered into the organic circle as a sales assistant in a local organic store. Four months later she was already working as an office assistant in a company that produces organic raw bars and shortly after that she became a quality assurance manager. Today, she is a production manager in a similar company. Yanitsa travelled through South America mainly hitch-hiking and on occasional bus, giving freedom to her adventurous spirit.

I was very excited when the first speaker mentioned Maslows pyramid, because it is a new perspective for me to think about travelling - also because I´m writing a paper on spiritual tourism, which I hoped to inspire by a few ted talks on youtube. Somehow the transition between speakers was a little unannounced and choppy, but the subject was stilll there. Over time, I would´ve wished for more focus on the self actualization topic.. more connection to the told stories. I feel like there was something not said in this video - as if someone waved in the background and was like "2 minutes left come to the conclusion guys". Still, thanks for sharing the experience, it´s food for thought and I will definitely look into Maslow´s needs for my paper :)

Fyi: Brazilians speak PORTUGUESE so everyone does not speak Spanish! Spanish and Portuguese are TWO different languages. Omg! Lol. Actually, when I was working as an English teacher and traveling both South Korea and Brazil, the school administrators looked down on backpackers. I also discovered in both countries that backpackers are treated like a typical tourist. I decided not to be a backpacker, just so I would at least be taken seriously and have the ability to experience deep culture instead of entering a state of stasis in surface culture.

Maslow's theory. Really? I learned that in middle school. These Ted talks are so elementary and low IQ.
