Mark originates from the south of Holland, a quaint country known for tulips, cheese, clogs, and coffee shops. For seven years, Mark has been submerged in the Amsterdam ad scene - a place he has always felt at home. From his day job as a creative copywriter at LEMZ, to his night job as an advertising instructor at the JUNIOR* Academy, to his hobbies as board member of Dutch Young Creatives and co-founder of Creatives, Cocktails & Dreams, there is not a corner of the ad world Mark has left unexplored.
In order to break down the borders of his comfort zone, Mark began a project that would test not only his boundaries, but also the boundaries of convention in the field of communication. In January 2014, Mark waved goodbye to his job(s), tossed his home into a backpack, and hit the world as ‘The Backpacker Intern’. In exchange for food and lodgings, Mark helps agencies, brands and charities by providing new perspectives and creative solutions for communication challenges big and small. In 8 months he’s been in 16 countries and worked at 22 companies like Amnesty International Thailand, DDB Vietnam, TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles and Red Bull in Austria. He worked with the legendary hitmaker Nile Rodgers in New York, helped out a dog shelter in San Francisco and served food to homeless people at a Soup Kitchen in Malaysia. Adweek, Campaign, MTV, national television channels and other international media picked up his adventure. Mark received 700+ job offers from organizations spanning the globe. He gave speeches about his project at TEDxTeen in New York City, the University of Transylvania in Romania and World Merit Day in Liverpool. As a public speaker, he wants to help and inspire people to create an awesome life. Mark believes that we can change the world if people start changing themselves.

Yemek ve konaklama karşılığında, ajanslara, markalara, ve hayır kurumlarına iletişim alanında yardım edip, onlara yeni bakış açıları ve yaratıcı çözümler getirerek hizmet sundu. 8 ay içerisinde 16 ülkeyi dolaştı ve Amnesty International Tayland, DDB Vietnam, TBWA/Chiat/Day Los Angeles ve Red Bull Avustralya gibi şirketlere hizmetler sundu.
