You should be using the relay to drive the solenoid not the starter. Same setup but connect the output of your relay to the solenoid control wire. That way your current is not going through the relay.

Cool, good work, start and also stop. Now we need the choke function. Maybe that can piggy back on the start switch.

The way you connected it makes the relay switches burn out, I know because it made it start a couple times and then it fired it! I think it needs to be connected to the solenoid.

I connected it to the solenoid, and I had the same problem as you do. I connected it the wrong way. What I mean by that is that I had the majority of the current going through the remote relay. So, I changed up how I connected the whole system together. Instead of having that current running through the remote relay, I added a 40 amp automotive style relay. So the remote relay would trigger the external automotive relay, which carried the current needed by the starter. I need to take this video down and make a new one, because the way that I did it in the video worked but only for a couple times. Let me know if that makes sense. Thanks.

So I’m not sure about adding a 40amp automotive relay, not sure why you would add it. So the way I’m doing it is almost the same way you had it hooked up. Instead of hooking up the common to the part of the solenoid you originally did in the video I connected the back part of the solenoid with a female and make quick disconnect, I’m hooking the red power line up to the incoming power side of the solenoid and the ground to a bolt on the engine. For the shut off switch I’m hooking up the other channel of my 2 channel relay the same way you hooked up the kill switch by connecting ground to the engine and the common between the yellow low oil pressure switch.

I have a xantrex AGS for my solar inverter/charger. It is supposed to detect when the batteries are low and start the generator to help charge them if it is cloudy or night time. The issue I have is my generator is a WEN dual fuel 4750W electric start. So it is not set up for remote starting and I there is nothing but a key start switch. In order to connect the AGS to the generator will I need to create or buy an interface between the 2 like you have there?

Do I need a little battery like in the video or can i use a 12 volt car battery? I bought same transmitter as you but when I press the button to start, the starter keeps cranking and the transmitter smokes and get feted. Some help would be much appreciated.

  • @outdoormaniac4562

Sorry for the late response. You can use a car battery, but a car battery has the capability of pushing more amps through the circuit than the smaller battery I use in the video. Their was a flaw in how I wired it. Instead of using the relay on the circuit board to power the starter motor, I should have used the relay on the circuit board to power an external relay capable of the amperage required to start the engine. Their are two modes on that transmitter. One is on and off which is the mode you are on, and a momentary mode which is the mode I used in the video. Momentary mode works by pushing the button to activate the starter and then releasing the button to deactivate the starter. On and off mode works by clicking the button to turn it on and then clicking it again to turn it off. So putting the transmitter in momentary mode and adding a secondary external relay like mentioned above, would most likely solve your problems. Again, sorry for the late response. Please let me know if you need me to explain this further or you just find it confusing. I appreciate your patience!
