Unlikely to be passed tbh and although I deeply disagree with this.. if it does get passed ill have to take advantage of it.. wonder what MOS would be available for this type of enlisted recruit… how would you even obtain a security clearance and get processed through a MEPs to do an ASVAB if you didn’t have a permit.. strange..

I'm betting you need to first get the GC and serve after before being eligible for citizenship. And no you do not get to pick where you serve. Best you can do is get a contract in a field you like. For example Infantry, mechanic, tanker, etc. After that Uncle Sam will tell you what you do.

@totemparadox, thanks for the response. you are correct, you will get green card, then after 5 years you are eligible to become a USC.

Previously for green card holders.. its 5 years of honourable service active duty with no UCMJ violations.. remember that a DOD contract is 4 years so realistically you would be looking at 8 years of service.. if this does get passed the best thing would be enlist and by ur first contract you should have ur citizenship.. then if you are still interested and within the age limit you can apply for OCS/OTS and get a commission

Serving in combat isn't mandatory. You can get a job in a logistics or mechanic unit stateside. Of course if you go infantry and get shipoed out then it's different.

This will take years before it's passed. I doubt if it even passes. This bill has just been introduced. It has go to House of Representatives and be passed with majority. And if it passes there, it would go to senate, which i doubt would be passed with lot of conservatives republican. If it passes there, it will go to the president's to be signed and passed.
