Hi Mike. I'm starting work on my first song with studio one and was programming the drums. I had a few things I didn't know how to do so naturally this morning I turned to you. I found this video and you answered all my questions. I really hope you know how much we all appreciate what you do. I record music with my friends purely for the enjoyment of it. The last thing I want is frustration when I don't know how to do what I want in the program. With you here I feel like I have buddy I can turn to for the answers every time. Thank you!

Mike, Thank you for doing this! You are a natural instructor and your tutorials are simply great. I follow and enjoy a bunch of Studio One you tubers, including Gregor and Joe G on the Presonus channel. They produce some really good and helpful content. But when it comes to well paced, clear and concise tutorials, you are a treasure.. i hope PreSonus knows how much you help their Studio One users.

Mike the others need to watch how you teach! You always start at a beginning point that people like me, that's just learning Studio 1 recognizes where you are. And MIST IMPORTANTLY, you go very slow where the others want to show off how quickly and simple as they say the particular routine is that they are trying to explain. Also, you do not leave out any step and you actually and slowly show us where it is on the screen and show us the result always going slow. I hope these other Personus/Studio one experts read this. Thanks Bud!

Thanks for this seperate channel, Mike. I have moved from Cakewalk to Studio1 (by accident, as it happens, as I didn't realise I got the Artist version with the ioStation24c I bought recently). I'm really liking it and finding it an easy switch over after 20 years of Cakewalk and Sonar. Oddly enough, I could not find the kit you were using, so downloaded the pack but it is still not there. I've even upgraded to Sphere and Professional but with no joy. However, I can still follow along with the method. I second the idea of a tutorial with seperate tracks for each drum part. I guess there is maybe an easier way than loading multiple instruments?

Thanks, great tutorial. I notice all the TM drums rename the notes the pads use. For example, with no drums loaded, or with any other non TM set, the bottom left pad is C1 and it goes up in order (C1, C#1, D1 …) up to the top right pad which is D#2. So in midi mode on my NI Maschine, I set the pads up to match. But load any of the TM drums, the bottom left pad is now B0 and the top right is D4.

Fantastic tutorial Mike. I was wondering though, do all this things you teach also aply to Studio One Artist version, or is it only accessable on the professional version. I dont know which one to purchase yet, since i am a 'home studio' producer at the moment.

Let me say this upfront from my research I think Studio One is going in the right direction overall. I think what S1 is doing with Atmos is dope. I like the video integration with audio. I their project page concept of mastering whole projects and look forward to using that for my projects. I like importing my stems for mixing and arrangement within studio one Now when it comes to frustration with Studio One a lot of it falls on me. I love the chord track I struggle with the following: It takes me too long to grab events and move them where I need them. I keep splittingthem. I have issues quantizemidi events. I used to be able to Maschine and MPC as VST but I must be doing something wrong. I find hard it to get a workable view of the Edit window and control the scrolling in the loop setting I might be struggling with latency I know I can use my Qwter keyboarddon’t know how to set it I want to know how can I chop and assign samples with impact I want to know how can convert Audio to midi I really want to get better in composing within Studio One, I do my beat making primarilywith MPC Software and then Maschine software

Can Impact drum hits be routed to their own separate tracks like you mention that Addictive can? If so, how? Or do you have a video detailing that? . . . . follow-up. I found it by Googling it. My difficulty was not asking the question correctly. Highlight the midi track, select Instrument Parts then Explode Pitches to Tracks.

OK, this is why I still haven't transitioned from Sonar Pro Cakewalk to Studio One. I use Cakewalks step sequencer to program drums. It works well with Spitfire Audio Hammers, Abe Laboriel Jr. Drums, and LABS Vintage Drums. My workflow has become quite proficient with this and it is easy to set up. I am actually thinking I can built the drum step sequencer into my massive project template to be ready to go for each project that requires drums. I don't really care for this method of drum programming here... How does one use the step sequencer in Studio One to built drums?

You make it look so easy! One thing, if anyone's reading. I copied this tutorial to the note...exact. I even got the velocities about the same. I notice though that the loop/ beat is really loud...it peaks way up near 0, the kick slams at the 0. So this was just for demo purposes yeah? I mean, constructing loops like this for a mix you'd have to back off the velocities right? Or trim the volume on the channels, right? Usually I aim for the kick to hit at -12db...but in this tutorial it's hitting already up near 0. So this demo is just for demo purposes right? You guys aren't starting mixes with such loops already slamming 0 are ya?

You can record one midi drum track and then right click on the track >Instrument Parts >Explode Pitches to Tracks. This will create seperate drum tracks. These tracks you can then process individually and/or route to a Bus.
