i used to chisel for metal engraving because rotary for me will create inconsistence line, but after viewing your video i must say your line is consistence... you have change my mind, bravo...

Thank you! It takes practice and a steady hand but the most important part is propping up your arm so the only thing that’s moving is your wrist. I found that very helpful. Wish you luck, thanks for watching.

G'day from Aus! Thank you for your excellent vids. You're really informative and detailed and I've learnt a lot from watching. My I request a vid of what the different shaped/thickness heads look like in comparison? Also, all of your projects have been on powder coated mugs, is the shiny metal no good to engrave on? (like the brass yeti in your shopping vid) cheers again and keep up the incredible art!

Hey Leila, thank you very much and thank you for your video idea! Non painted cups are definitely harder to engrave because you have to use hard tungsten carbide burrs to penetrate the metal. Versus painted cups you can basically use any burr, starting with diamond burrs which are easy to get. You also have to create some kind of stippled background on non painted cups to make your art work pop. This process is very time consuming and there is a technique to doing it as well. I’ll be making some videos on that in the future for sure!

That’s great work brother! I was interested in if you used a cutting lubricant when using your diamond burrs? Also how often would you say that you’re replacing your burrs during projects if at all? Basically looking for what the longevity of the burr is and how to tell when it’s time to replace it. Thanks and great work.

Thank you Aaron! You can dip your bur in to water once in a while to keep it clean and cool it off. As far as longevity of them, it depends on the quality and how large the bur might be. Bigger the bur longer it will last. It also depends on what you’re doing with it. If you are stippling metal for example, you bur will only last a minute or two. You want to replace burs when you see the difference in cut, you can tell that it scratches the surface a little differently or you can visually see that the bur itself is basically gone. I’ve gone through so many haha! Cheap and expensive! Good luck to you and let me know how it goes.

Very steady lines with that tool. I just recently started engraving and my control is all over the place. I have to figure out my speeds.

@@baqergt5062 Do you use a Dremel? I have Dremel 3000 and 4000 both work really good with the Dremel Flex shaft. Foredom also makes great rotary machines with a Flex shaft although they are more expensive.

Hello Meigan, I have used it in the past for detailed work. I like using black transfer paper because you can better see the engraving lines. I think it’s mostly personal preference. If it’s hard for you to see black I would recommend going with white.

Hey Bam, Dremel Engraver is actually something that I started with although quickly changed to my Dremel 3000 because it’s a lot easier to control. I would recommend buying the Dremel Flexshaft for your rotary tool since it provides so much more control than just holding the Dremel itself in your hand. Make sure you keep the Dremel along with the Flexshaft elevated to prevent any overheating. Feel free to watch my video that I made a while back called “How to start engraving/carving with a Dremel”, it should give you a quick overview of what you would need. Thanks!

I am just starting engraving and I have tge Dremel 3000 with the Flex shaft I live it. My problem is that I'm not sure which burrs to start with as well as speed settings. I'm using Copper sheet

So tungsten carbide burrs are better for engraving/ making letters on stainless steel?

I would definitely suggest using tungsten than anything else on stainless steel.

@@claytons.124 I started out by doing free engraving to see if people like what I do. Then I started charging for just my consumables. Once I established myself a little I started charging $10-15 an hour. You just need to gauge it by your customer base.
