Very good video! Thank you for real world explanation and how it works. Good job! Thank you! I hope more people will use your video to give a working knowledge on epi use. It did for me, and I have to have an epi for emergencies.

I had an anaphylaxis reaction to Ibuprofen years ago....bar none the scariest night of my life. Thank goodness my mom and the firefighters were there that evening. She raced me to the hospital but, as we passed a fire station en route there, they saved my life by injecting me with a liquid form of Benadryl. I will never forget those firefighters (the paramedics who arrived were also great. They transported me to the hospital and my throat literally opened up as I arrived at the ER)

Thoughts on administering diphenhydramine (Benadryl)? I had an allergy doctor recommend liquid diphenhydramine PO in conjunction with the Epipen, but that was over a decade ago.

Talk to your doctor, but we were told only to administer the epipen and call 911 immediately because Benadryl doesn’t stop anaphylaxis.

so the difference is when you apply epipen, wait for 3 seconds, instead of ten seconds, right?

probably it has to be at least 3 seconds, so 10 is ok as well...

If I had to administer a second dose, would I inject into the other thigh or the same one I first used?

What evolution advantages does the body’s anaphylactic reaction have if it kills the individual?

Vasodilation (by histamine) brings gamma globulins (antibodies-G,M,D) to the tissue site. Bronchospasm (also mediated by histamine) is probably to protect the person from inhaling too much of the allergen. Severe Anaphylaxis is classified as a Hyper Sensitivity Reaction, meaning it's not normal. It's an over aggressive activation of the mast cells (IgE-receptors bind to the allergen, the little circulating bags of histamine dump it all in the blood) which causes severe hypotension and severe airway constriction. The lack of oxygen to the brain ultimately kills them.

Lol! I would hope the person would immediately educate themselves on using an epipen as soon as they are informed that they have severe allergies or after ordering the pen. I'm sending this video to my family so that they're familiar with it.
