Remind any expectant parents you know that they absolutely need to do this. I wish hospitals and birthing centers added it to their syllabus of required coursework before giving birth.

    The Good Samaritan Act discharges from liability any member of the general public who attempts basic, emergency care in good faith. Remember, if the person is unconscious and not breathing, they are dying. It's not a matter of if brain damage could occur, but how much is happening. Bad cpr is better than no cpr

    You do have to get consent from parent/guardian for a child, just like you have to get consent from an adult who is chocking. If the person is unable to reply or unconscious, then it is considered implied consent.

  • @NamelessBody

    @NamelessBody

    5 жыл бұрын

    Indeed, maxdecphoenix. No CPR 'license' is required to perform CPR. Even if you've only seen it on youtube, you can attempt it. No harm's worse than dying. More generally: If the situation is non-life threatening, you need parental permission to provide first aid (say, putting on a bandaid on a minor cut). If the same child is about to die due to choking, you may want to ask permission in order to not agitate the parent and reduce scene safety for yourself, but it is not a legal issue. In other words: You're fine, legally, to perform these procedures ASAP without permission. Inability to respond equals implied consent as long as you act in good faith. If the parents get angry, re-evaluate scene safety and either continue saving the life, or retreat if your own safety is now your primary concern.

I've been doing childcare for 20 years and many parents freak out when their kid is having a cough attack. If your baby is not able to breath or is unconscious then yes, Definitely apply these methods. But do not do chest compressions/ CPR if they are already coughing and conscious.

    It's stupid to call 911 only after the person has already gone unconscious when the ambulance could take 30 minutes or more to arrive. You should get someone to call 911 immediately as soon as you notice someone is choking and all the while you should be trying to help the person with the choking problem that he/she has! That is the right procedure to follow!
