Epi Pen Script
Boy 1: Hi I’m Georgia from First Aid For You
Boy 2: I’m Lucas - today we’re going to show you how to use an Epi - Pen.
An Epi Pen ‘ is a life-saving medication. It must be used when someone is having a really severe or super bad allergic reaction, known as Anaphylaxis.
Our friends, team mates, brothers, sisters or anyone we know that has Anaphylaxis should always carry their Epi Pen and even a copy of their Anaphylactic Action plan.
Both of these tools are lifesaving. The Epi Pen is the special medicine that we must give correctly to help save their life. The action plan tells us what the person is anaphylactic too, like food or insect stings. It also shows us what the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis are and how to use the Epi Pen
Anaphylaxis can happen very quickly.
The Epi Pen can only be used once.
So knowing how to use an Epi -Pen correctly is super important. Here are some important tips:
1. Remove all the dangers, especially the food or item that is causing the reaction
2. Keep the person really still, you can lie them down, but sometimes it feels better to sit up.
3. Remove the Epi Pen from its case
4. Hold the Epi Pen firmly in your hand. Keeping your thumb away from the top and bottom
5. Remove the blue lid
6. Hold the leg super still, find the special spot, on the side of their thigh is perfect.
Tip: You can leave clothes on, but make sure there is nothing in the pockets( phone, money, toys or anything that could block the needle going into the clothes)
7. Firmly push the orange end of the needle into their leg, until you hear a click, and HOLD it for 3 seconds, 1 - 2 - 3
8. Remove the needle and place it safely back in its case and we will give it to the Ambulance when they arrive
Simple way to remember:
Blue to the Sky - Orange to the Thigh
You must always get some HELP -it is really important that you call Triple Zero or you can also try 112 on a mobile phone or ask an adult to help you as soon as possible.
Keep the person SUPER still until the Ambulance arrives, they should never move, help will come to them.
Never be afraid to help someone who needs their Epi Pen, in an emergency it will not hurt them, only help them.
Boys: That’s it for today, thanks for watching and see you next time
