How To Transform A $12 Harbor Freight Axe!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I'm transforming this Harbor Freight axe into something wonderful using tools I bought at Harbor Freight just for this project. These 1 1/4 lb. axes have become popular but I knew I could make it better. Can I make a cheap hardware store axe into a great camp axe? I was inspired to try this by watching Cody on @wranglerstar test this axe. It's my favorite homesteading channel. Now this axe is sharp, comfortable to hold, and just a little better looking. 👍 SUBSCRIBE: bit.ly/2Iy7PK3

    Nicely done. I'm a man of a certain age & have been refurbishing axes, knives & sharp edged tools for decades. Just a helpful suggestion. A lanyard on a axe is to hang the tool so you don't lose it. By making the loop big enough to fit around your wrist, you are asking for a world of hurt or serious injury a worst. A missed swing, canted blow or otherwise can easily peal the skin from your wrist or severely break your hand or wrist. just make the lanyard big enough to hang the axe so you know where you left it, or to make it easier to spot if you drop it in the woods. Again, nicely done, all the best in your future endeavours.

    If anyone is wondering how good these actually are, I had an axe throwing business for a short while, and we used these, and they held up great! They do need a bit of reprofiling of the blade and good sharpening to make it stick, but they lasted more than 6 months until the handles started breaking down.

  • @lanemartin5446

    @lanemartin5446

    Agreed. Just check the grain orientation of the handle before you leave the store with it. That goes for any store. Some hatchets/axes are hung properly, and some are just wrong.

    I’ve just recently started putting together a “bug out” or “go bag” and have been considering several different axes for cutting kindling or use as a mele weapon etc. All of the axes I’ve looked into recently are $50 or more, which defeats the purpose of building a cheap but effective kit. I’m on KZread everyday, and with this in the back of my mind, I run across Wranglerstar and now your content, and I’m like “damm, exactly what I’m looking for. A cheap, modifiable, but effective piece of equipment”. Thank you for the eye opening epiphany. I will definitely be visiting harbor freight tomorrow.

    I noticed a life insurance commercial pop up before this video. It's like "Ladies, if your husband is like this guy, you might want to buy life insurance on him." Seriously, most of my knife making tools came from Harbor Freight. I have that exact same belt sander. I tossed that clear plastic cap on top of the wheel because it works well for getting into grooves or curves into the handles. I also use it to sharpen knives because it is easy. Put a 600 grit belt on it and it will shave hair. Never used boiled linseed oil, but I really like Tung oil. It does pretty much the same thing, but gives the wood a warmer look. Now take that awesome ace and go bury it in the hearts of your enemies. And by enemies, I mean logs, limbs, etc. Keep the content coming.

    Very cool!! My wife needs a "fighting axe" for her GameCon regalia. Your vid makes this part (which I'll do for her), look fairly easy. I'll prob attempt to do some of the designing (on the metal), with a dremel and try work in something "tribal"......Thanks for the great vid!! I'll subscribe!! Thanks again!! Michael
