How To Transfer Images onto Canvas - Arts & Crafts Tutorial

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

See my other video on how to transfer onto glass here: • How to transfer an ima...
For this project, you will need:
Mod Podge Matte Finish: amzn.to/1JAgV0o or Gloss Finish: amzn.to/1LWq4WP
Sponge Paint Brush: amzn.to/3oH9Ufs | Sponge Roller: amzn.to/3MHj2bX
Craft Scissors: amzn.to/1KKCn7f | Canvas
You can use any image you like. For this demonstration I used 'The Seven Deadly Sins' by Chris Price, taken from Harper's Bazaar 'The Big Red Book'.
Directions
1. Take the image to the photocopier and scan it. If it has writings, flip it over.
2. Take the Modge Podge and pour it onto the canvas by covering all of it. Use a brush to make it even.
3. Take the image and place it on to the canvas, make sure to even up the sides and leave no wrinkles.
4. Take the roller and roll the image so that it fits perfectly on to the canvas, make sure that there is no glue onto the paper top.
5. Get rid of any glue stains that have pushed out on the sides of canvas.
6. Leave the canvas with image to dry out for 24 hours.
7. After the 24 hours, get a sponge, soak it in water and make the top layer of paper wet. You will start to see the image below.
8. Turn the canvas vertically and rub the paper side of canvas gently with your fingers, so the paper comes off slowly.
9. Keep on rubbing down the paper. If needed, add more water so that it comes off easier.
10. When you have cleared the image, you are finished. Good job!

This is such a great tutorial! I used this technique with my daughters favorite Disney characters using a dollar store coloring book. Then used acrylic paint pens to "color" it. All my friends are now offering to pay me to make Disney (and other cartoon characters) decorated stuff for Christmas. Like one friend wants me to decorate her sons dressers and other furniture with Marvel characters.

I used to do this with modge podge back in the 60s. I would put my images on wood or plastic and sometimes on glass. Also, I would use old cigar boxes. I still have a few of the pieces I did and they still look great. I also used color pictures with no loss of color.

You can fix those spots in black by using a Sharpie, or paint to touch up the scratched off areas. Another thing is to do some painting with color and then seal it. Also, a little bling can be added with crystal jewels here and there. Remember, less is more. Loved your vid, and your filming location looks great too!

Using the book inside the frame to support the canvas is good, but even so I recommend doing one other thing: Once you've placed the image and burnished it the way shown in the video, flip it over onto a hard surface like the table (you can protect it with a piece of freezer paper etc), so you're looking inside the frame from the back. Now, burnish the underside of the canvas really well from inside the frame with a brayer. Then, flip it back over and again use the brayer around the edges that you can't hit from inside the frame. Takes just a couple of extra minutes, but you'll be surprised how much tighter the bond is between the image and the canvas - and the tighter the bond, the better the transfer.

I realize your comment (& the video tutorial) is quite old, so u may not even ✔ this thread; however, i have a question re:wood transfer. Does the image being transferred HAVE to be copied or can u transfer another medium? For instance, markers? Can i freehand something and transfer it onto wood or do i have to photocopy the original? Thanks so much if u happen to check this.

Susan Di Laudo I am 98% sure it has to be photocopied or printed on ink jet printer....I also think that laser printed image would work, but also almost sure that marker drawing does not transfer (they soak into the paper unlike printer’s ink)
