Acrylic Pour Through a Colander
Ойын-сауық
Someone suggested I try an acrylic pour through a colander, so I did! It was a fun and informative experiment, though there are a lot of things I would change next time (such as thinning the paint a bit, less blue, and putting a canvas underneath). For those of you worried that I'm "wasting paint," don't worry, I make jewelry and other products out of my paint skins from the bottom of my bin!
Materials used:
Artist's Loft flow acrylics (30%)
Floetrol (50%)
water (20%)

Woah, what a cool result! I see everything from a flower, a “sad man in the moon”, a strange other planet, that dolphin is amazing... Just wow!
A tip for you when you're running low on paints (if you didn't already know!) *If you plan on using a color but nothing comes out of the bottle, cut the top off and use a rubber spoon/spatula to scrape the rest out! Or pour it into condiment cups and use when you need a bit of color! 😊💖
This seems like a good way to use up odds and ends of paints

I know this is an older video but I watched it anyway because it came up on my watch list. This turned out really awesome, it's a beautiful abstract daisy 🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼
What would be neat: 5 canvases. 2 next to each other, 2 under those to make 4 on base. Then center the 5th one in center. Pour on the center....the overflow will hit the other 4. Then you could frame them that way....the white space in the corner could be part of the "series". That just popped in my head.... don't know if it will actually work. Would be neat tho!

Lovely. Thank you for mentioning that you can put another canvas underneath to use up the poured off paint. Some you tubers are saying the waste doesn't matter... it's only paint... but it really does. So much is ruined and exhausted because we want to be pleased by beauty as a human race. It really shouldn't be like this so thanks for taking responsibility for that and giving a solution :) You're a star .
I normally hate abstract art because a lot of people try to make some meaning up behind it but this was dope!
This technique certainly gives the illusion of depth in the initial circle area. Interesting...
Makes me want to try it. It would be something new of what I normally paint. Thank you for the video
Fun project with a great result! It would look great in a black frame or reproduced for a t-shirt transfer or album cover! Good job!
My mouth literally fell open at the result! I can't wait to do this.
Watching this, I admit I was skeptical at first. Didnt think it would work the way it did. But as you got closer to being out of paint I was getting excited to see the results. I was really amazed and now I want/need to try this.
I’ve been looking for inspiration as I’m feeling my muse has left me . Thank you for helping me find it again! Beautifully done! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😍

I thought it was a great looking piece of art! I love stuff like this! I saw a lady bug & it was blue. She was hovering over the Galaxy. The yellow was perfect amount on the lady bug. The way the colors swirled down the sides of the canvas looked like 3D dimension of the Galaxy going on & on. This was actually a Brilliant idea! I can see something like this but on a much larger canvas, on a solid light color painted wall. Thanks for sharing.
WOW!!! It is really amazing. I love it. Thanks for explain how to make it.

I loved it before you tilted the canvas. The center looked like a skull. Then with the run off of excess paint, it stretched, then resembled flower. The uniqueness of the pour paint design is cool. It just seemed like a whole lot of paint used.
This is GORGEOUS!
Very pretty. Looks like a fish under water to me..an exotic looking fish! i love it!

Beautiful work, very creative! Thank you for sharing your technique it has been an eye opening experience!!
Really cool video and painting! I wonder what would happen if you use a sieve instead, because the holes will be smaller and may take longer for paint to drop through but it would spread more as you add paint on top it. Might look cool 🤔

I appreciate you!! I like your willingness to share your experiments!! I appreciate that there is no music competing with what you have to say!! I'm glad you have videos that aren't dragged out for 20, or 30+mins with chatter that has absolutely nothing to do with the project!! A few of your commenters said that when you first lifted the colander, that they did not like the pour!! And then, as it progressed, they changed their mind & really liked it!! I'm wondering if some of those people who gave you 'thumbs down' only watched right up to when you lifted the colander... decided they didn't like it, & didn't watch the rest of the video--- just right then & there, they hit 'thumbs down'!! Regarding paint cracking--- not everyone thinks cracking is a bad thing!! I think it adds character & interest to a pour!! Some people use paint pens to color in the cracks--- gold or silver looks great!! Check out Rick Cheadle's formula for getting cracks in your paint pour--- on purpose!!

heavensacrifice , no need to be rude. Maybe for you "Art" is not the same as for me. Art is (in my Oppinion) something you can do in different ways to show different results. Here the result is a colored canvas called "picture or painting" and I personally like it. Pictures or Paintings are "Art". And the way to reach that result was "pouring color through a colander". So... you don't like it, ok. But please don't tell me, what "Art" has to be or not to be. Thank you. Greetings Chris

Hey, I loved the final outcome - very 'Grateful Dead-esque'. Might I suggest soaking your canvas overnight, then drying the surface until you have a thoroughly damp surface, then using watered down paint (and multiple canvases, etc), as you had said. I believe that, if your canvas is not pre-gessoed, the paint would absorb more readily into the fibers of your canvas (as it forces out the water); thus effectively dying the canvas
I feel like this should have been timelapsed

Oops, couldn't get the keyboard going😂 WOW quite an extraordinary result. So attractive, reminds me of the very deep sea creatures. Just an idea. Thank you for sharing X🤩
