Oh my gosh! Dan, this is the best instructional video out there for tying this knot!!! My great -grandparents homesteaded in Bruneau, so I like thinking of it as the Bruneau knot!!! Thank you for your wonderful demonstration!

I love it. Western wear is very rakish indeed. Just like a well tied bow tie, it's fancy yet asymmetrical and a little messy. It says "I care as much as I have to and no more", a strong masculine statement.

I wear a wild rag just about every day. In the real cold, I'll double wrap it and tie it in front with a square knot (because there's not enough room for a buckaroo knot), but if I wear it loosely, I love a nice buckaroo knot. It looks good in the front, like you have it, or to the side. Or the knot in the back, with the loose part of the rag in front, it fits just about right for a bandit mask or pulled down for a nice look.

Hi Blackhorse, I agree. I have an extra long scarf that has been double rapped all this winter. I never thought about putting the knot in back. Good tip.

I think that living closer to the cowboys on the Bruneau Dessert, this is the name I've heard. I've had several people tell me about other names for it.
