How to Target Your Back

    Train with me on my app | 7-Day Free Trial | $8.99/mo Go to📲 www.myliftfitness.com IMPORTANT INFO🚨🚨BICEPS 🚨🚨yes they activate & contract, but it doesn’t mean they’re what is truly MOVING the load. It’s similar with your hamstrings in a squat. Since they simultaneously being lengthened and shortened, they are not getting a good growth stimulus. They will be used, but not enough that I would consider them a “target”. Just do your curls 🤝 Back - This video is my best attempt to paint a picture of how different grips & handles dictate what muscles you’re training. However, it still falls short. There are other variables that impact what is being targeted (For example: where PEAK RESISTANCE occurs in the exercise - is it heaviest at the top, middle, or end range of motion) Regardless, this will help you understand what’s being trained with standard cable pulldowns 👍🏼 (more on this at the very bottom) (Biceps Continued) The statements above assume that pristine form is maintained. That said, if someone pushes to failure and their back musculature fatigues, and in an effort eeeeek out another rep or two, they begin to over rely on biceps to (sort of) curl the weight into their body at the very bottom - Yes, in that instance I suppose a *newer lifter* could get some bicep growth stimulus. But at that point it’s no longer a pull-down. It’s a set a pulldowns taken to failure with a set of 2 or 3 mutant-half rep curls tacked on to the end (those are likely where many are seeing growth from) At any rate, Everyone would be better off keeping form strict, and doing curls separately. My main objective is to inform you that the underhand pull-down is NOT the best biceps exercises there is under any circumstance (as it is being stated on social media lately - in large part from old Mike Mentzer videos) Hope this helps 🤝

    @@dazedandcoldI don’t think he’s intentionally putting out misinformation. The underhand grip and certainly work the biceps of you choose to target those with the elbows finishing in front of the body as this is the finishing position of a bicep curl. The only downside of this movement is you can’t get a deep stretch in the eccentric motion of the exercise. I personally like this to target the bicep insertion into the shoulder as the top half of that bicep is loaded when the shoulder is in a flexed position.

    Many channels and professionals claim underhand grip are best way for biceps. Lets take one as example : Gymnasticmethod (yt channel). What you really need is underhand grip with closer width than you normally do and take a little far back of seat to really impose of the biceps. Its really help me as a hardgainer to reach full rom and constant tension. I believe this exercise is extremely underrated and very though if you doing correctly. Mike Mentzer also recommend these exercise.

    Biceps are active and play a role. Clearly we can all feel that to varying degrees. However, they’re not what I would consider the “target” - it’s not a very good or efficient exercise to grow the biceps due to the muscle simultaneously being lengthened and shortened at the shoulder & elbow. It’s the same reason the long head of the triceps is not effectively trained on pressing exercises. It’s simultaneously being lengthened and shortened at the shoulder & elbow

    Yep. It’s why I decided to include it. Mike Mentzer probably was the most prominent voice advocating for pulldowns effectiveness on bicep growth. However, unfortunately, it was something that he was incorrect about. We’ve just learned more about the body since his time. You can think of it like the hamstrings in a squat. They don’t contribute because they are simultaneously being lengthened and shortened. When a muscle is being lengthen and shortened at the same time, it’s not going to be moving much weight

It is not a good choice for bicep growth because they are simultaneously being lengthened and shortened at the elbow and shoulder The Long Head of the Triceps are not targeted in pressing exercises like the lateral and medial head are. It’s for the exact same reason. The long head of the triceps crosses both the elbow and shoulder, and is simultaneously being lengthened and shortened during a pressing exercise . • @DavisDiley

    @DavisDiley

    Ай бұрын

    Fair question. Here’s my take. It isn’t the underhand pull-ups they do IMO. Seriously, the underhand pull-ups are SO EASY on their biceps compared to other stuff in their training. The hard static holds/ positions they must maintain doing things like iron crosses, and full planches are SO much more demanding on the biceps than a simple underhand pull-up. I mean, those are probably one of the easiest things they do, so is it really what’s giving them the results? No way Static isometric holds can absolutely build muscle, and gymnasts do them quite often. Also, from my research, many do actually train with weights as well outside of their specific gymnastics work (I’m sure this can vary from gymnast to gymnast) So, my final estimation? It’s the static holds, slow control through EXTREMELY tough ranges of motion/positions - and lifting weights is what gives them developed arms - not the underhand pull-ups

    @@DavisDiley Let's go - 1) flaring your elbows our will Target lower lats - how did you come up with that conclusion? Do you understand the line of pull of the lats? Do you understand the basic anatomy? The position of the humerus is going to determine Lat engagement and the moment you flare your elbows out, the lats are going to lose its pull. They insert on the IT groove on the humerus. 2 "V bar will not Target your lats" - ofcourse they will, however, they aren't the most optimal because a grip that narrow limits shoulder extension after a certain point. Guess what extends the shoulder? THE LATS. 3) "Extra wide grip" targets some lats you've mentioned - dude, that's going to be much more upper back dominant. In fact to train lats you need to be slightly leaning back to match the direction of the lats. SLIGTLY. Also, just remember EMG activation doesn't always relate to more muscle growth in the real world. It's good you're referring to researches, but get a skeleton and attach some balloons and see how they interact with different angles and movements:) Lets see you respond and hope you take this in the right spirit:)
