How To Tame and Earn The Trust From A Green Cheek Conure or Other Scared Parrot

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Green Cheek Conures can be quite fearful lil birbs! In this video, I'm going to show you my tips and tricks on how I was able to tame and earn the trust from my green cheek parakeet. If you have a green cheek or any other parrot that have shown fearful like behaviors I can definitely help you out!
Plastic Clips For Treats on Cage
amzn.to/2vBZLBD
Step 1
Cage Placement
-semi busy room
-keep loud household appliances to a minimum
-in a corner with plenty of lighting and where they can see you when you walk in
Step 2
Know the Green Cheeks Limits
-slow motions, calm energy, minimal eye contact, make sure he/she can see you perfectly
-when you begin to approach cage, if the green cheek begins to become on guard, stop where you are and hang out there for a little bit. Let your bird enter a calm state. Reward the behavior. Don't leave until your bird is calm and distracted by toys and food.
Step 3
Treats and Perches Strategically
-Sit by the cage and hold the treat while feeding them to your bird. Keep the bird beside you for as long as possible.
-Keep handling nonexistent depending on your birds fear level
-If he steps on a perch for you, hold it slanted never horizontal if your bird bites you.
Step 4
Make Other Rooms Fun
-Build your birds confidence by letting him/her come out on its own. Clip a treat above the opened cage door to encourage him or her to come out and explore.
-Whether he feels more comfortable stepping on your arm or perch, bring him into another room where there will be treats. Get him away from the cage
Step 5
Bond
-Fearful birds tend to want to stay in there cage. While bonding, take him into a fun room with plenty of treats and toys. Let him explore with no handling.
*If your bird is scared of hands, in the beginning do NOT focus on handling your bird. Build a bond without hands being involved, then slowly introduce your hand. Avoid bites entirely which means.... NO hands for a while :)

@@susangunn885 Watch my videos and observe my birds behaviors, the thumbnail clearly shows Yoshi isn't fearful of my hands, observe fearful parrots behaviors stated in other videos on the internet for comparison, etc. Many ways to show the differences between tame vs untamed parrots. It's very obvious to distinguish which ones are tamed and which ones need work. The fact mine sit beside me relaxed in a calm state fully flighted and not shrieking in fear flying away is a good indication for starters.

Yall are not correct. 20 -25 is the expected life expectancy. How long is a human expected to live? about 80 years in America. How many humans are older than 80 right now? what about over 100? If you take care of him (excellent diet/care) and give him a reason to live (lots of attention and a "mate" or companion. He'll keep squawking for a looooong.

I took in unwanted larger birds and trained them, and found forever homes for them. Little birds weren't high on my list. This November, my grandson purchased a high red green cheek conure for me. He has won me over hook, line, and sinker. He is a happy, sweet, loving companion. If you are looking for a bird, green cheek conures are an excellent choice.

I really appreciate your video. I just took home a GC conure that seems absolutely terrified of people. When I asked to meet her the shopkeeper reached in and grabbed her very quickly and aggresively with both hands from where she was cowering in the corner and I felt so bad for her after learning she'd been in that shop for SIX MONTHS that I just couldn't leave her there. She seems particularly scared of hands (and i don't blame her) so I really appreciated you focusing on that particular fear.

I’m getting a green cheek tomorrow and I’m so scared I’m gonna mess up the bond. Everyone has given me advice but it’s ALL different. I have a plan but I’m not sure if it’ll work Step 1: keep hands OFF the bird, stay in the room for awhile, sing and talk softly, and only go into the cage to change water, food, and to clean. Once the bird is comfortable with your presence and the new surrounding, go to step 2. Step 2: Try to sit close to the cage but don’t make eye contact, offer the bird treats from outside the cage but if he moves away it’s okay. Try again later. When the bird takes the treat go to step 3. Step 3: Try feeding the bird inside the cage with your hand and offer food. Do it continuously and go to step 4: 4: teach the bird how to perch on your finger or arm. Do this for a few weeks. Finally, step 5 Step 5: when the bird is comfortable enough, take him out of the cage so he can enjoy outside and set up snacks, toys, and puzzles everywhere. Is this a good plan?? I’m really scared I’m gonna mess up, someone help?? 😬

Hiyee Victoria, came across your channel. Thank you so much for all your advice .. I am a bird owner I have 2 male budgies whom I have trained and love to bits. But I am adding a new member to my family tomorrow (green Cheek Conure) who is very timid and scared of people. My heart went out to him when I saw him. I could use all the advice on how to train and make him comfortable. 😊 thanks so much 💜💙♥️

I was just given a pineapple green cheek, never considered of having one before. He is not tame and fearful (not aggressive just run and hide) thank you so so much for this video. Lil Dexter has gone to sleep, but tomorrow the fun begins! Hope I can cuddle with him at some point like I do with my cockatiel!

Girl I love you, I am rebuilding a trust relationship with my "extremely aggressive cage territorial came from a terrible situation" conure thank you for the encouragement we're going to start over from day one again thank you. If you could do a video on continuing a good relationship with your bird that would be super super helpful because I had trust with him at one point and then a switch went off in his brain and he hates me

Hey! I just got a agressive cage territorial conure as well. He’s willing to come out, but he’s already very scared of hands. How has it gone for you? Any progression? (I got mine yesterday)

I just bought a Green Cheek Conure and I can't believe how different they are in temperament. my green Cheek is Super friendly and handle able . He has never bit me or even tried. Thank you for your videos and for your help with raising my new bird!

I just inherited a Green Cheek. We have met before although his dad passed and his caretaker just dropped him off. The first 45 minutes after my son left (which he loves) it started to scream. I went back to my desk which is 15' away from a sliding glass door where his cage is. I just did my own thing and looked for a cover for the evening. About 7:00 PM he looked like it was bed time. He loved the red color and came out running around with his approval. It 's big enough for his huge cage. He's very funny and settling in just fine. I dig this little guy. I've raised baby parrots most of my life for friends for pets. He's a keeper.

Thank you! I know I’m late but, I sat by my bird’s cage and didn’t say anything and didn’t make a ton of eye contact. He finally started playing with his toys so I got a nutriberry out for him and he came over right away. I will keep doing this and then introduce my hand. 😁🦜
