Just a couple minutes in and the advice of “just pick one building” is already so helpful. Like, why didn’t I think of that 😂

Ive been sat here trying to draw a city before i can draw a door. This is a revalation for me 😂
This is the best explanation of perspective I have ever heard or read. Thank you. What has helped me the most IS how to determine perspective when I'm looking at something. AND what/where is the horizon line. I also like your tip about starting with one small building. I was trying to draw all the things I saw UNTIL I ran out of room on my page. That was rather overwhelming!

That was going to be my comment as well. I will only add....too bad I had to learn it at 79! I'd better start sketching in a hurry. Oh, wait! I see he has a video on sketching people, my favorite subject!

I finally understand perspective thanks to you. Thank you so much 🙏
Breaking down the larger shapes really helps me, otherwise I find it overwhelming. Thanks as always for your great tutorials
I love that you always explain with diagrams, so it's easy to understand!

Cleat and motivating tutorial! You always make it so easy.
I am so glad i found your channel❤
I like the idea about the use of dots.
Thank you so much for this class! Helped Me a lot!
I really appreciate the advice on line drawing. I spend way to much time trying to draw straight, perfect lines. I will try to loosen my grip and embrace imperfection. Thank You
fitting your building onto the paper, was very helpful. I have often run out of page. You were very clear on the perspective too. Thank you.
Thanks for Sharing ❤
This really helped me understand perspective so much better than all of the books I've read! Thank you!
This was a great video. Thsnk you. Love your style

Thank you. Well explained, easy to follow. Very helpful. Thank you for taking the time.
This is a great tutorial! Very well articulated and really welcomes people into the style of art!
So clear and helpful! Thank you! Merci 😉
Fantastic instructions 💞
I really enjoyed the two point perspective and seeing you estimate the height for the horizon.
I’m completely new to this type of subject and method so everything was valuable. A very clear and helpful tutorial. The bit at the end about detail was the icing on the cake ❤
Beautiful art and great video ❤
Thank you so much that was helpful
I don't think I've ever seen an explanation of perspective that I understood as well as yours. Thank you!
Great video - thank you
Thanks for this
Thanks so much. As I start this journey of urban sketching, this was very helpful!
Really good tutorial on perspective, understandable always had difficulty with it. Thanks for sharing
Merci beaucoup pour ces explications si claires et concrètes!!!!
This was very informative. I really liked the tips on line drawing and using the dots to make sure everything fits. Thanks so much!
Thank You. I live on a small island and would like to practice Urban Sketching. Love this video!
Everything was so good and well explained. I get so overwhelmed and didn’t know how to edit. I was guessing what you were going to edit and I was always wrong. That proves I try to do too much. So that’s the first thing I’m going to apply.
Very nice,I like your sketching on different topics like people, landscape, and so on.
너무 훌륭한 강좌 입니다❤ 감사합니다~^^
Dots approach works best for me. Thanks so much for the most effective tips ever! 😀
Line option details were great as I always feel like they all need to be clean and straight. You absolutely ended that perception for me. Also, the perspective points were extremely helpful as well. But walking through your process of planning, large shapes leading to details, was terrific. A very, helpful video. Thank you.
I like the suggestion of picking one object to sketch. I also like the idea of simplifying how much detail you want to put into your sketch. Up to me on how much detail I add. All of these tips help me. They make Urban Sketching not so intimidating. Thank you.
You got a subscriber just because of the simple way you explain. Great job, keep it up! 👏👏👏
Thank you ❤❤
Thank you so much. Your visuals and explanations are so clear and concise! I also didn’t think of “just pick one subject” thank you!
Great tutorial mate.I just got back into sketching, and the urban landscape interests me.
Great 👍 Thanks for your efforts 🙏👏👏
Really helpful and informative information regarding perspective, breaking the subject into small sections is so helpful, thank you!
Great Video! I`m a beginner and it helped me a lot 🙂
Thank you, this was a really nice breakdown and I learned a few new tricks =]
best explanation.
Very helpful!
i really liked this, my favourite tip was breaking all the steps down and starting from bigger shapes to full detail. amazing video and this will not be the last of yours i watch!
Great help for this beginner. Perspective is my Achilles heel.
Great explanation to the line work. I found the same thing sketching animals at the zoo. By not having perfect lines, it actually adds a great deal of realism. (Plus it saves me from having to worry about fur and feathers.)
Brilliant !
Great tutorial, thanks :D
Thank you so much for your clear explanation of perspective drawings and how to choose simple building for beginners to start with so as not to be overwhelmed. I like your calming assurance regarding sketching from photographs . Hope you could create more content for beginners for sketching tips as well as water control and pigment management for water colour painting . Will be subscribing to your channel
thankyou

I'm not a beginner, but this was immensely helpful! Two fave tips were line work and using dots to make sure to get everything on the page - I can't tell you how many times I've had to cut out some of my building because I didn't leave enough room for it! Thank you so much!

Thanks so much for sharing your expertise! I am a retired art teacher, still a teaching at a local Senior center. My students ages range from 62 through 93. I noticed that perspective and urban sketching is the most difficult subject for them to grasp. I will be recommending your video to everyone in class, as pre-requisite to enroll in my Cityscape classes this coming April. Thanks for your generosity!

I have always had trouble with perspective. It was so helpful that you used the building as reference. I feel more confident drawing buildings. Thank you.
Man that "embrace your mistakes" is something I'm trying to really get a handle on, drawing rough is so... rough lol idk if I'm making sense but I'm trying my best
I just laughed at 3:00, when you picked exactly the same building that I sketched last weekend in Copenhagen with the local sketching group! :)
Absolute superb content..thank you so much…😊 i think you can do another part to same video for showing how to color and where to leave white highlights
The dots are critical. Measuring the proportion of your drawing makes such a dramatic difference.
Fantastic video. Calm voice, simple presentation. As a beginner, I felt great because I understood everything from the first time. Congratulations, you have a new subscriber

Thank you! Especially for the detailed tutorial on perspectives and to "just pick one building" 😂 I will certainly use the Dot Method next time.
Very good video sir❤
Thank you! The info on perspective was all new to me and very helpful; how did I never notice those angles before?
hello, creating a line character and having free flowing expression was decisive for me.. thank you very much- regards ..

yes free flowing expression is very important!
So helpful! I didn't know that the closer to the horizon line the less angled it would be! Also, like many others, picking one building to start with. I have been overwhelmed with trying to sketch the whole street.

😂
These sketches have a unique raw and human style
I found it useful to sketch the empty spaces around an object. The object then emerges on its own in an interesting way, more interesting than if it were drawn directly - for example, a chair that would otherwise look like it had been drawn by a child reveals its natural shape by simply drawing the empty spaces around it. Drawing the empty spaces helps you avoid focusing on overly simplistic ideas about the object that prevent you from actually “seeing” it in an artistic way. Same with a house, a person, a flower, anything.
Galata tower!❤
For those who are wondering, the town at 2:45 is Novigrad - Croatia, main square.
Perspective definitely. I know that I will add pencil lines until I get that down. The other thing is I don’t have to do the whole street 😂 Duh. I have tried to sketch my church which is quit big and a bit ornate. I have tried to do the whole building and I totally loose the perspective as it goes down the block. My next try I will just do the bell tower. This was awesome and definitely put things into PERSPECTIVE. 😂😂😂😂. Thank You.
Great video! ⭐⭐ Thank you very, very much for sharing all these tips. I'm going to start practicing! 😊 The truth is, there's only one detail that I need to improve when drawing buildings: I don't know how to draw buildings.🤔 An unimportant detail 😁👍
Very much appreciated, please continue this series on urban sketching.
Damn your good. THX for the fantastic video.

Just starting to dabble with urban sketching. This video was extremely informative and helpful. Your explanation of perspective was brilliant and easier to grasp compared to others I've seen. Using the dots and shapes are going to really help me. A question for you, any suggestions for apps for free photos of buildings to sketch? Thank you.

thanks Stephen! You could try pexels.com and unsplash.com (I think they have an app too). These are the websites I look at.
If you can draw simple shapes like boxes, cylinders, triangles and understand some perspective, sky is the limit.
