Most "liberating" video ever! Sketching architecture is always so daunting but with this video one can see how 'accuracy' is not the point at all - it's all about capturing a feeling, the bits that captured ones attention and hype those up. Thank you for this!!

Danke für dieses Mega Video! 😘 Ein Ausflug mit Ian!!! Er ist so sympathisch. So inspirierend. Hat einfach eine einmalige Herangehensweise. Und hier mal so locker & schnell & "wonky". Fantastisch! Ich will mir sofort mein Skizzenbuch schnappen. Danke 🤗

It is very impressive how apparently random elements (at the beginning) can create an amazing sketch at the end. Also the way you understand the perspective without using straight lines it's just amazing! 👏👏

Toll!

Thanks, Ian!!! LOVE this looseness...a real encouragement to hold my bridges and pens less tightly and to embrace the wonky!! At the moment I'm unable to travel (90 year old in laws are our priority). I can get some practice in doing pictures from photos with a 15 minute limit.

Love that these were nowhere near accurate but still beautiful in their representational nature. I also enjoyed that you used the tones and then added lines rather than doing the lines and then filling in the tones. I'm new to urban sketching and most of the videos I've watched started with the lines and then filled in the tones. Thanks for showing how to be really relaxed about it, because this shouldn't be stress-inducing, but relaxing and expressive ❤

What a coincidence. I also live in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. In my opinion, there are many beautiful places here that Ian and other people could sketch too. That means he needs to come back as soon as possible and btw there are no annoying wasps in winter. I'm just saying 😁@@artistravel Thanks for sharing this 🥰

When did you learn this technique of drawing with a "long pen"? I have a feeling that this will make a big difference to my casual drawing, if not to all of it. Is it a known and taught technique? I have never come across itbefore.
