I’ve had this same Hyper Tough weed eater for going on 3 years. Still runs great, even after I accidentally put 4 cycle fuel in it last year and ran it for a while before it died. I cleaned it out, got it back up and running and haven’t had an issue. I guess I got a good one. It’s been worth the money for sure. Been running SEF premixed 2 cycle fuel in it since “the incident.”

For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. kzread.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.

Picked up one today next to a trashcan, looks almost new. Made in 2016, September. Almost no compression, I'll tinker with it in the morning. Glad I still have my homelite st275 from 1993. It's been awesome to me, despite letting it sit sometimes for years, when I had yard guys. Plenty of compression.

Try priming it only 4-5 times then full choke and pull until you hear it starting to turn over then switch it to no choke and pull it until it starts. I did it on mine and it worked. Good luck man

I guess I just got lucky. I've had this same weed eater for 5 years and it still runs great, using it when it's time to trim for at least 1 hour each week. I am just now having a little problem with it. It starts and idles fine but will not fully go into wide open mode. I think it's just because I'm using fuel that is a couple of years old. I bought a new spark plug, I'm going to change that and put all new fuel mixture in and hopefully that will fix the problem. If not, my next step will be to do this on this video. I will put in an edit to let you know! Thanks for this video! I am a 62 yr old lady, was a machinist for most of my early adulthood years, so not afraid to tackle this. Wish me luck!!

What a pain in the butt! Mine is about 3 years old, but only worked the first summer, so I thought I'd try to fix it. I don't know if I will, but your word of wisdom was not lost on me about taking pictures while taking apart! A few months ago, I took a Hoover stick vac apart to rewire what I knew had an electrical short....seemed easy enough, right? Well a gazillion steps into it, I realized I WAS a gazillion steps in, with no breadcrumbs thrown down to show me the way back! No available schematic online (or anywhere else), and after "messing" with it for days, I threw it away and bought the new assembly for it. It just never seems like it should be so freakin' convoluted. Lesson learned! Thanks for telling your viewers to take those pics and thanks for your video!

@@RedfishInc That sounds like your ignition coil is going bad. It works to start, but after it gets hot, the coil will fail until it cools again. Eventually you will not be able to start the trimmer at all. A new coil this POS trimmer costs around $20 - if you can find one. Good luck!

I designed a 5 gallon gas backpack for this MTD trimmer. I found out the hard way that if you shut it down that means that you should have given it away BEFORE you shut it off as they don't start once they're more than one day old. I'm on my second one and it is sitting in the basement right now, running. The weeds should need trimming in a couple of days so hopefully, there will still be some fuel left in the backpack, although it is much lighter with only half a gallon in it.

this looks exactly like a remington rustler rm 2560 i just fixed that my brother has used for two years and it stopped working a year ago... What i did was change the connector that goes to spark plug since the stock one is shit... this solved the issue... i put fresh gas in it and used it for an hour and i had zero issues... I have a lot of experience since i did lawns for business 20 plus years owned fixed and wore out over 10 trimmers... imo this remington has lots of power...as much has machines i paid $300 for back in 80"s and 90s... Most normal people have issues because they really don't know how to fix simple issues or don't even understand how to start one properly....

Thanks for the video! I can't understand something: You repeatedly said you don't recommend this Hyper Tough string trimmer. Yet, you also said earlier on that you purchased 3 of these within the past 4 years. What's up with that??? I also bought 3 of these at Walmart. One I paid $45 for one of them as an open box special. I used it for one season and beat the hell out of it! It was hard to start and I cracked the bumper part of the string feeder (good luck finding this part at Walmart!). These trimmers are made by MTD in Mexico. They make several several other string trimmers as well. This trimmer was on my workbench until this afternoon. I found out that they have a limited 2 year warranty, so I took it to a warranty repair shop to get it working. I told the guy there to only fix it if it was under warranty. I had also purchased 2 more of these string trimmers last December. Walmart was clearing them out for $25 each brand new! I have not opened the boxes yet, but I might use them next season if all does not go well with the warranty on the other one. I agree, these are not well made. You get what you pay for in this case!
