The steam cars are really the most enjoyable and interesting of all Jay's cars. So glad he took this one for a spin!
That was cool when the train whistled at you! Retired steamfitter and big fan here, superheated steam is very powerful, it is wise to have your own personal steam mechanic on hand due to the high pressure and temperature! Love the brass gauges.
I just love how much he is into the cars in his collection ... that amount of passion is just unparalleled. A lot of uber rich people have fantastic collections but you can tell that Jay Leno actually loves and collects these for what they are and their historical value rather than to simply show off his wealth.
What i love about jay is that he actually takes the time to learn about the history of every vehicle as well as learning come of the complicated processes of operating some. And to take these cars out to drive them keeping them alive. Hell its what they were made for. I definitely respect the mans passion.

Thanks Jay, for doing what almost no one in the world is willing to do…restore a steam car from 100+ years ago, and show us how it works, while driving it on the streets of LA. Amazing!
My grandfather traveled from Philadelphia to Ontario Canada in a Stanley with his grandfather somewhere in the early 1920s always said he drove the whole way while great great grandfather drank whiskey he was 9or 10 at the time. What season was it when they made that awesome trek? I'm from Sudbury Ontario by the way.
Several months ago, I was driving SB on San Fernando Blvd close to the noon hour when I came upon what at first I was sure was Mr. J. Thaddeus Toad speeding NB in the fast lane piloting a monstrous bright green motor car with huge brass head lamps and a white plume of steam escaping from the undercarriage. Upon closer inspection, I determined that the driver of said motor car was none other than that well known auto adventurer and bon vivant Sir Jay Leno. Sir Leno had a huge smile on his face and his grey hair was flying in the wind, headed no doubt for some great adventure! Tally Ho, Sir Jay, Tally Ho I say and well done!!!
I’m not into steam cars. I watched this video because I knew Jays passion would be entertaining. However, this machine is really interesting. Jay is doing a service to those of us that know nothing of these types of machines.

Thanks for bringing back some memories of my youth, Jay. My Great Uncle, my grandmother's brother-in-law, had a Stanley Steamer. Uncle Wayne used to visit once in a while and of course we all had to go for a ride. I think the whole family could fit in the back seat the car was so big. he used to toot his whistle for us as we rode down the street. Tragically Uncle Wayne and my Aunt passed away and 3-4 passengers were badly burnt and his Stanley Steamer destroyed in a fire while in a parade at Knott's Berry Farm due to a propane tank leak. The propane was used for the pilot light. This was back in the late 60's.

Loving the steam cars Jay, thanks for sharing these beauties and explaining how they work. Many books on early cars gloss over steam as it saying they didn't work vs gasoline once electric start came along. Very true but this brings the trials and joys of steaming to life! The White and the Doble were highly complex for their time. I think of steam cars like the Chrysler turbine car.... an interesting road not taken but fascinating in any case. Electric cars were written off for dead once and are now coming back as batteries improved ... maybe steam will someday too

Thank you Jay for the fantastic videos! 👌 The White Steam car is one of my all time favorite vehicles. I remember going to the county fair as a kid some 50 plus years ago and have always been fascinated with the steam engines. One time there was a White Steam car, I think it was a maroon, red, and gold color. Don't know if it was a 40 horse or not, but it was the coolest thing I've ever seen. Thanks for the reminder of a great childhood memory.👌🤙

That whistle gets me, love it! Like you said, there is a romance with steam, has to be how involved you are with the machine, the opposite of our cars now. This car has more personality than every car made in 2022 combined.
