I do my roof a little different i measure from the center of the colmn in the bay the roof x bracing is out 1 ft on each side and snap a line across the slab then at each x bracing point i measure from the top of the rafter out 1 ft on the bottom of the purlin at each x bracing point and make a mark then i laser from my snapped line up to the pulins i marked and adjust the cables till my laser hits the line

Are you meaning 'level' or plumb/square throughout the video? ie when you say you need a column to be level are you not referring to it being plumb?

@@BuildingwithNARF Thanks for the confirmation - I'm from the UK so wasn't sure if it was something getting 'lost in translation' - two countries separated by a common language! Appreciate both the video and the fact you replied. Do you replace the tensioning wires with fixed wind braces once the frame is finished, or do the wires remain?

  • @BuildingwithNARF

The cables remain in the frame. The frame gets stronger from the added roof and wall panels. This is the design of this particular building. There are other ways that a building can be designed to hold the frame square.

@@BuildingwithNARF Thanks again. Here in the UK we tend to see rigid braces installed once the frame has been squared up, although you do also see some with either cables or threaded tie-bars. I guess the advantage of the cables and/or tie-bars is that they can be retensioned if the building should settle.

Are the squaring cables structural? I have a client that needs windows. I have a cable in the way of one of them. Can I remove the cable? Existing building, sheeted and complete.

An engineer usually won't sign off on removing the cables. They are part of the structural design.

It's 6" thick with a 1' x 1' rebar grid. 24"x24" footer around perimeter Fiber added to cement. 6'x6'x4' piers at center columns. It is engineered for each building specific.

I think steel would beat wood price with installation included in price. In the past wood would be cheaper but more labor cost. Steel materials would be more but cheaper on labor. With A height of 24 ft I think steel would beat wood in price and strength. I am a "steel man". Just my opinion.
