I've been boxing for almost 2 years and when i slipped punches and load hooks i always did it by consciously loading my leg. The result was that i never landed the hooks and i never slipped anything. The second I visualized rotating the shoulder, for example rotating the right shoulder towards the left knee, everything changed. I looked in the mirror and i realized that more i was doing it like shown in this video.

Yes, that's another nice way of focusing on that rotation - that's good determination to find a solution 👍

Learn boxing from the former coach of the Russia's boxing team. Check it out! In one of the videos he mentioned slipping by moving your shoulder. Why? Because where the shoulder goes the head has to - obviously - follow. www.youtube.com/@user-gh7cv4lp8q

😮 that's alright I always slip pivoting my rear foot while bringing one shoulder towards the opposite knee and vice-versa still using the back foot only bring that shoulder towards the opposite knee😢 but what do I know. I'm going to try it your way it just doesn't feel like it brings me far enough away from the center line.😅 Hey once I saw your video again I realize that you aren't going very far away from it either 😔👍🏾 I look for learning but I think I'm going to stick with my traditional slip

I do some of, 'that stuff' to optimize usage of my arms and hands. As you can see when you slip (to your right) my left, your right hand is completely useless for incoming blows. Its all the way behind you. I like to bring my right hand across my face more and drop my left to guard my diaphragm and liver. I'm completely covered and out of range for anything coming in straight or overhand rights. I'm wide open for leaping left hooks but I'm well out of range and should have time to intercept or counter with anything straight. It's sort of a bait for me to use my right.

We all have different ways of doing things Justin. As long as the boxer is aware of the risks then my job is kind of done - there's a lot of 'learn by doing' as the boxer becomes more experienced

when do you slip inside vs outside? Does everything have a counter? example, slip left jab to the outside to be on the outside of your opponent, slip left jab into roll to dodge potential check hook? When would you slip and when would you roll?

This is a very typical English way of slipping with just a transfer of weight. I was taught this as a kid and found I got caught a lot using it Then later on I was shown the way a lot of US fighters are trained to slip where you slightly bend at the waist forward and your left shoulder goes towards your right knee & vice versa for the other side. The US style dramatically improved the amount of punches I was slipping to the point where I now refuse to teach this way to my boxers.

Is dropping hands when slipping really that big of a deal? It feels awkward slipping with your hands up when you speed it up. On top of that i see many of the best boxers drop hands when moving head e.g; Mayweather with his pull counter.
