For anyone trying to learn to sleep on their back, as a lifelong side sleeper, I've found sleeping with a modestly heavy pillow on my chest to hug or even just to provide a sorta "grounding" weight makes it way easier. I still don't always stay on my back 100% of the night, but I am able to fall asleep on my back and stay asleep for a larger proportion of the night. And it does generally help my back/hips. In case anyone finds this helpful.

I would do stretches and exercises to fix my rounded shoulders but every time I woke up my neck and shoulders would be stiff and sore. I realized not only was I sleeping on my side but also twisted with one leg bent which is literally the worst position. I started sleeping more on my back and my shoulders are naturally pulling themselves back. I’m still working out the mid/lower traps, obliques, and rhomboids as well as chest opening stretches and the combo of this plus adjusted sleep positioning in just one week has helped TREMENDOUSLY! Hope someone finds this encouraging ❤

You can definitely learn to lay in 1 position all night long. When I was living on the streets I would often be in a narrow doorway & staying where I was was important. I have no idea how long it took me, but I can stay flat on my back for the entire night, so long as what I'm sleeping on isn't too soft.

I have to sleep on my back. I have rounded shoulders but wayy worse on my left side(painful side). I’ve had 2 pt’s tell me I have an elevated left rib also. My neck is also involved b/c of the contraction of the shoulders pulling on my cervical spine. I switch from sitting in a recliner to sleep, to the bed, to the couch. I do not move. I sleep like a corpse seriously. I never know when I get up how my neck will react from being pulled on. Sometimes, I get slight dizziness lasts only about 3 seconds then it’s ok. I can take the pain on the neck /shoulder, but not the unsteadiness of the neck. We have bought 2 new mattresses over the course of 2 years. I still cannot get comfortable on any pillow. I even have a wedge and a cervical pillow which is just as bad. I keep trying and am hoping once I fix this rounded shoulder, things will get better.

This video came up going to my daily exercises ...have you tried seeing if its your pelvis outta whack (you can get it from prolonged sitting in a bad postural position). Look up tilted pelvis videos as this effects posture, hips, gait, shoulders and full body alignment etc. I felt your comment as I sleep like a corpse too!! due to my pelvis with pillow under knee. Ive found that if your pelvis is straightened your shoulders the rest literally falls into place a bit easier/comfier. Sit on a flat, straightback chair rather than a comfy couch slouch position (,I know its hard) n do lots of lying down pelvic thrust n bridge exercises Theres an exercise too, to stand against a wall arms up palms against wall then tuck chin in and squat.. Stretches out your shoulders. All the best.

L W I have severe muscle & nerve pain in upper back Right Shoulder & Entire Arm & Hand that I will wake up screaming & crying. I’m a traumatic left arm at the elbow amputee & I’ve overworked my right arm for 14 years. I get real bad insomnia because of the pain but when I do finally get to sleep I had to sleep in the recliner because I couldn’t lay flat,or on my side since it put way to much pressure on my right side. I actually slept in the recliner for 3 years not good on a marriage lol plus the recliner started to hurt my lower back hips etc. I ended up buying a King or 2 XL Twin size Head & Foot Adjustable bed frame (easier if I have to readjust in the middle of the night so I wouldn’t disturb my hubby) Buying that has been the best decision!!! Now it’s more comfortable to sleep on my back I actually get more then a few hours of sleep & I only suffer from my insomnia once in awhile. Hopefully maybe it’ll help you

I usually hold my shoulders back throughout the day but it don't really feel like I'm holding them back. My trapezius is pretty beefy though so I'm not sure what the problem is. I have pretty nice delts and my back is pretty jacked my upper traps are literally eating up my neck. My chest is a lil poopy tho. Not where I want it to be at least. I wish I was able to sleep on my back, I have pretty bad acid reflux and I've woke up in the middle of the night choking on acid before and it was extremely hard to breathe and I thought I was going to die. This happened twice to me, so I don't like laying on my back anymore lol

Hey I just happened to come across this comment in which I had the same problem in both shoulders, which I received surgery on my right shoulder for. I have a program which includes face pulls, external and internal rotation exercises, front lateral raises, done with resistance bands for high reps. Assuming we have the same problem which the shoulder pops out for just a few seconds then pops back in when the arm is all the way at the top of range of motion. Another tip is I do shoulder press but I keep my hands internally rotated and don’t go all the way until my arms are straight keeps shoulder in less vulnerable spot. Chin ups over pull ups too

@@TaroIwamoto actually I have APT and a big lumbar curve then a straight upper back and a stiff neck with thickened muscles where the cervical and thoracic spine meet. My hips and butt are also stiff and nothing opens them back up. My abdomen also pokes right out 24/7 and for the last year I’ve looked 8 months pregnant. 🤨

@@TaroIwamoto I’ve seen lots of videos on the standard run of the mill APT- this is a bit more complicated than that and involves more than just APT based on what I’ve described. Thanks anyway

So you didn’t even give us any proper way to sleep lol just ways to not sleep but I guess from your video sleeping on a firm bed on ur back is the best way , or maybe sleeping on a carpet floor is the best option
