Thank you for this video. How do you accept uncertainty about the worst or health worry if the fear is about your value family, kids that you feel you always need to protect from something bad?

The best part "The main purpose of saying may be maybe not is not to force ur brain to believe in this phrase But atleast send a signal to your brain that it doesnt has much value as your brain is telling" Its not a life and death issue Always give your brain margin to accept any thought after an OCD thought. You can still function properly without finding and uneqiivocal answer to it. You are the boss not your thoughts.

Love you guys for the work you do, but unless you have ocd I dont think anyone can truly understand the terror of it. Its not just uncertainty, its fully believing your fear. Its being convinced the sky is green because you SEE and feel evidence for it (due to the hyperfocus we get). Its a feeling of losing ground, having our perspective being flipped upside down. THATS why sitting with "uncertainty" feels unbearable. Not to be rude, i just think its important for people trying to help us to understand the lengths and widths of it all.

Hey, I totally get this! I know I didn't get into it too much here in the video, but I was actually diagnosed with postpartum OCD after I had my toddler about 3 years ago. It was ROUGH. So I definitely see how someone who has OCD could see this video and think we don't truly understand. And to be honest, I don't - because I had resources that others don't have, and I was able to get help rather quickly vs wait 10-17 years like most. So I really appreciate that insight but want you to know that I do know it's easier said than done. It can seem so simple in videos like this when actually there's so much more to it than that. I hate when videos say things like "just do this" or "just stop it", especially when the person doesn't have lived experience like you mention. You are a rockstar!

I felt the same way watching this video. I really appreciate the help and insight but all I could think about was “These are people with a healthy mental capacity healthily talking themselves through uncertainty.” When Nathan said “I’m willing to take that risk.” I really said to myself “If I said that, I wouldn’t believe it and I really could never say that and mean it.” That’s part of OCD is trying to control the risk.

Making clients draw 2 columns, one negative what if and another for positive what if..for every negative what if (what if something bad happens) you come up with what if something good happens..making them enlist the probabilities (worst case- best case scenarios) help them deal with their debilitating anticipatory anxiety of something bad transpiring!

Such helpful content. So much of the advice out there puts such an emphasis on how people with ocd tend to make something out of nothing. How we'll fear every sore muscle or sneeze is a symptom of some terminal illness. But what about the times our anxiety does come from a realistic concern? I had a lump show up on my arm that matched all the initial criteria to be an early indicator for cancer, and i have an ultrasound scheduled within the next month. It might be cancer, it might not. The thing is, this is a scenario where that "might be" is actually a realistic and legitimate concern, and so much of that standard advice on OCD doesnt apply here. Thank you for taking into account how real issues can exacerbate OCD symptoms, it's extraordinarily helpful.

Honestly, this video is terrifying. Does no one else find all of these details triggering!? I'm just sitting here thinking... so sit with the anxiety and ignore a racing heart... but then it turns out to be a real health problem... soooo your anxiety was verified?? Yikes. I find most of the videos on this channel to be extremely helpful, but hearing two healthy people, who aren't old and who exercise regularly, describe random major negative health occurrences is nightmare fuel. Nice to know that people who once had anxiety can live their lives regardless. I'm going to go try not to think about a-fib and seizures now.

Hi guys, I found this really useful, thanks so much! I was wondering if you could tell me how to do an exposure for real event OCD. I have been having the same intrusive thought for over a year now and I know logically I shouldn't have to worry about it but it is just stuck in a loop and because it is unpleasant it raises my anxiety. I then try and get into a debate with the OCD which I realise is a compulsion and leads no where. I am able to avoid the compulsions mostly but after some time I get frustrated that the same thought is happening and my anxiety rises. Thanks again :)

Here's the extent of my anxiety and self-doubt: I am cat-sitting for my cousin, and even though I video taped myself leaving the house (and turning the camera to make sure the cat is out and not stuck in a room), I still come up with reasons to doubt it. Even though I video taped myself walking to the front door and showed that the cat was walking freely around the house, the fact that I didn't video tape myself walking to my car and driving away makes me not trust myself, and it is truly ridiculous! So now I am at my house, sitting through the discomfort as I wonder about it. I was late for work today by the way, because I was stuck checking everything at home and inspecting the entire floor before leaving the house. Yet, when I went to see my cousin's cat, I noticed that she isn't paranoid about leaving things out like scissors, tape, glass jars on the counter, and bags of water softener; so why am I so paranoid about MY cat when I leave the house, and I put away all of those things but still worry about my cat 😶.
