Bunjie (The O.B.) is a 2010 Excalibur Axiom Crossbow. After more than a decade of killing deer, hogs, squirrels, woodchucks, and even a bear, Bunjie is now semi-retired. Enter Bunjie III (or Bunjie '21, Bunjie 3.0, The Slick Black Cadillac of Crossbows) a 2021 Scorpyd Deathstalker 420, the result of trying various models and looking at dozens of them online for characteristics I liked. It is, in fact, a gift from a Friend of Bunjie, which goes to show how important Friends of Bunjie are to this channel and what an impact they can have. Bunjie III is a testament to modern crossbows, producing over .7 slugs of momentum and almost 140 ft-lbs of kinetic energy with stock arrows--at nearly 400 fps!
Bunjie, Jr., is my daughter Genevieve's crossbow, an Excalibur Micro Suppressor 355. This crossbow was also a much appreciated gift from a Friend of Bunjie, and it changed Death by Bunjie forever by inspiring Genevieve to become a part of our story as a second-generation crossbow hunter, and it also convinced me there is a benefit to a newer, faster crossbow (see our 2020 Maryland Doe Hunt).
Again, I am not sponsored by these companies. I am sponsored by Friends of Bunjie! (I'm not asking for gifts whatsoever--please don't feel like you should send me stuff! But I do appreciate the support I've received over the years! I'm just trying to express my appreciation for that.)
This channel is the result of combining my interest in filming and hunting...and music, too! My related channel, Yankee Militia, showcases my music. Some of the music is hunting-related, so check that out, too! The soundtrack for this channel is provided by my band, so the two are intertwined. The albums "Live Free or Kill" and "Zombies Gotta Eat, Too!" are available on Amazon.com and elsewhere. A third album is in the works.

I am looking to get a new scope for my MXB400. When I bought the 400 6 -7 years ago, money was tight and I traded in my Mathews Z9. I was an extra $125-$150 to get the Hawke Illuminated speed ring scope. I went with the model that was on it and it was a Hawke scope with a few lines on it to shoot to 40 yards. Shooting a heavier broadhead, it shoots a bit off and I think have that having the speed ring setup, I will be able to be more dead on at the speed I am shooting. I was looking at the Excalibur Tact 100. There are so many different scopes out there and always a ton of good and bad comments. I am still looking to buy a new scope but still around $125 or less. Any thoughts from you or your subscribers on a good scope that is illuminated?

I ended up purchasing the Excalibur Tact 100 from Wyvern Creations and I should have it in a few days. I recall seeing a video on your channel with David Wilkins from Wyvern Creations and thought I would look at his website. After a few emails back and forth, I moved ahead with the purchase 8 hours ago. It is now 2:46am Sunday morning here and I cant sleep, so I was watching more of your videos and see the one from just a few days ago you were wearing the Wyvern Creations T-Shirt. Thank you for all the great videos you do.

What makes Death By Bunjie the greatest crossbow hunting channel in ALL of KZread? The details. That it's NOT a big buck only hunting channel. That it's not a you have to have this to be a better hunter channel. It's not about which crossbow manufacturer that anyone shoots. It's just about crossbow hunting and that's good enough.

I just went through all of this over the weekend. I’ve been watching your channel for a few years now, but was never able to afford a crossbow… until now. I was able to get my hands on an older Barnett Jackal with KI speed ring scope. It was a brand new scope, so I had to sight it in just like you described here in the video. I’m happy to say it is shooting nickels at 40 yards. I can’t shoot two bolts into the same spot without ruining the bolts. Our archery season opens on September 15th, and I can’t wait!

my way of explaining the easiest method for speed rings. whatever the center crosshair is get that zeroed at its distance. then pick some distance 20 more 20 less ect. and place an orange dot in a spot where you can aim with the center on the orange dot but the marker for the real distance is safely on target. then fire with center on the orange and it will hit a bit high or low of the real distance mark. turn zoom until the center is on orange dot and proper distance marker is on the arrow at the same time

Good thing I didn't mess it up too bad. Last two bucks, were at 50 yards, but I do know I have moved it since. Thanks for a great video and info.

Yeah I almost bought a new crossbow the other day. But the scope, instead of the red dot, made me reconsider. It's just far easier with the red dot, then a scope. Just pick your dot, once zeroed in of course. But I'm definitely with you on the red dots. When I was a young buck, playing with all them gadgets, it was fine. Now that I'm older, simplicity works much better!😊

That is a complaint of mine, most modern Scopes try to have 100 yd reticles and it makes them so close together I can't tell the difference haha maybe look at some vintage Scopes so to speak, I used an old Twilight DLX for years which was reticles out to 60 yards and those seem perfect, look for Scopes like that maybe?

Unless you just want to shoot alot, there are scope calculators online that make adjusting the scope very easy. All you have to know is the moa of your scope. You measure how far you're off your poa and measure it. You then input the info into the calculator, such as your moa, inches you want to move the arrow, and the distance and it wil tell you exactly how many clicks to move your turret. I use one called "Kevins workbench," but I'm sure there are others. I can tell you from experience that the calculator they use is dead-on.

I just looked for it again and I can't find it. Basically though I can explain what I did. I put the crossbow on a tripod or something stable. Use a level on the rail to make the crossbow completely perfectly level. Then, line the vertical line in the scope up with a doorway and twist the scope until it is perfectly lined up. It helps you make sure that the scope is perfectly up and down. If you want to be precise, use a level on the doorway also and make sure that it is also perfectly straight up and down of course. But usually it's pretty good. This is the easiest way I have found I have all the scope and make sure that you get it lined up perfectly. I hope that helps!
