How to Sew & Tie (Demi-) Pointe Shoes

(#everydayballet #balletathome #balletforeverybody)
Hello Dancers & Friends!
It’s been awhile! I’ve been away from KZread, but now I’m so glad to be back!
In this video I show you how to sew & tie (demi-)pointe shoes. I’ve been teaching Pointe Preparation in my NYC studio and online program, and it has been sooooo much fun! I hope you'll join us as we take this marvelous journey! All the lessons are available through Everyday Ballet Online CLASSIC membership. And there's a 7-day Free Trial if you want to check it out! (Link below)
Pointe Preparation begins with dedicated foot conditioning and special classes designed to strengthen the feet, ankles, and placement. We also train in Bloch "Tensus" demi-pointe shoes.
Although they look like full-strength pointe shoes, the Tensus demi-pointes are MUCH lighter and more flexible. They are NOT intended for rising all the way up to pointe! Rather, they are designed to help the aspiring dancer work the feet more intensively as they acclimate to the structure of a pointe shoe.
The sewing is the same for demi-pointe shoes as for any regular pointe shoe. This video outlines my sewing method, but there are certainly others. With experience, each dancer finds what works for their unique feet. 🩰
I hope you enjoy the video!
Happy Dancing!

Tiekka

Thank you Tiekka , so lovely to see you posting again . We have missed you. I used to have to sew the elastics on my daughters flat shoes and then later the ribbons etc on the pointe shoes. It was so frustrating and many hours were wasted unpicking the stitches when the placing was wrong. We were just expected to know how to do it and no-one showed us how! The first pair of pointe shoes I attempted resulted in blood, sweat and tears quite literally as I pricked my finger several times. We also had to darn the flat base of the point with a sort of chain stitch which went round in a sort of spiral of circles in order to give the point some grip and make the shoes last longer. We had to do this with a curved flat sided needle. I can share one tip though, if any of the students don’t fancy playing with fire, the ends of the ribbon can be sealed with a coat of clear nail varnish. Just don’t use the flame and the nail polish together! Otherwise you might need the fire departments intervention. Thank you again Tiekka

Thank you for the warm welcome back!! Ah yes-sewing shoes is a literal investment of blood, sweat, and tears, especially in the beginning. I also used to darn the tips of my shoes and remember (now quite fondly) many late, late nights and in-between times spent working on my shoes. Professional ballet is nothing less than a full on lifestyle! And when one is not training their body, they are more than likely sewing their shoes! 🥰🩰🙏✨

I am trying to wait patiently until I am able to upgrade my membership so that I can begin the pointe preparation! I already have the demi-pointe shoes to help strengthen my feet faster. How do you know when you are ready to advance in technique (i.e. Ballet Body 2)? I am in my seventh month of taking your classes! I am doing my best to take my ballet practice slowly and also focusing on cross-training, so that I do not injure myself.

Once you have spent time doing my Ballet Body classes and you’re feeling pretty confident with those basics, there is an introductory Ballet Body 2 class to start the next level. Once you have taken the Ballet Body 2 classes (with training instructions) then doing the Express versions will be very strengthening! After you feel confident with BB2, then you can progress to Pointe Prep. The program starts with some intense foot conditioning and increases in skill and intensity with each lesson. It sounds like you’ve been very thoughtful and consistent with your training so far-BRAVO!!! 👏🏻👏🏻🩰🎉 Thank you for being a member!!! I am thrilled to be your guide on your ballet journey! 💕🩰✨🙏

Hello, tiekka mam 🙂 I love your teaching method, you are so inspiring for the adult ballerinas 🥺❤️ well, I need a little bit of help from you, please can you help me if possible 🥺 I am not a ballerina, I am 17 years old but I heartly want to learn ballet 🥺 but there are no ballet classes available in our city, so I stretch regularly but before a few weeks ago I got a doubt that I have twisted splits, means my hips are not staying squared in the splits, so I googled the solution of that problem and it said, to check if your hips are twisted in the splits do the splits by bending the back leg and putting it on the wall and front leg on the floor, but it said that you have to put your bend leg straight and not diagnal, I tried to straight the back leg, because of that my hip of the left leg got injured, however I still have strong hamstring flexibility than others but my left hip hurts so much while doing stretching😭left leg was my good leg and front leg of the splits, I got my splits two years ago and middle splits on this year and now I can't do them again 😢 but I don't want to give up 😢 please tell me how to get recover from that if possible 😢😢

Hello! I’m sorry to hear you got injured. That’s never fun. It sounds like you are very dedicated! The advice I have for you is too go more gently and steadily into you stretching practice. This is one of the HARDEST things to do because you are young and dedicated and eager! The following will help you regain your splits: 1. Warm up your muscles before stretching. This could be through walking, light jogging, a mild ballet barre-anything to make your muscles warm. 2. When you stretch, only go about 90 percent to your capacity. Take 3-4 deep, full breaths, relaxing the face, neck, and shoulders with each exhale. Then go a little deeper and repeat. 3. Stretch this way 3-4 times per week. You should not be clenching when you stretch. This indicates you have gone too far for now. It will take time, but you will see improvement. Slow and steady is the way to go when stretching! Also, avoid doing extreme body positions… Some bodies can do these, and some cannot. Whether or not you can do them does not make any difference to your dancing-but keeping your body healthy and injury-free will! I hope these suggestions help! 🥰🙏🩰✨

@@everydayballet thank you so much mam for helping and supporting me 😍❤️, I am definitely sure that I will get my splits back by following your steps 🥰 and I totally agree that healthy and injury free body makes difference not flexible body but please can you tell me approximately how long will it take to get the splits back? I know I shouldn't care much about getting flexible but you know, it hurts even more than the injury that when you struggle a lot for getting your splits and finally got them after a year and lose them two years later 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺😢😭😭😭😭😭 Edit : well, after stretching, right now I feel that I really don't needed to ask that question because I just realised that my right leg is now more flexible then left leg so now my right leg is good leg and I can work on it to get the splits by following your instructions 😍😍🥳🥳🥳 thank you so much again tiekka mam you are so kind, and inspiring 😍😍
